Clio rally car

How much did the adjustable wishbones and subframe modification cost in the end? Looks very well engineered. Something ill definitaly look at adding to my car in the near future.

Nick at pure gave me a rough idea the other day and WOW, you want to stay on the black stuff with that kit fitted anyway. Quality costs though.

Ye wasn't cheap! But like you said this kit is 'pure' quality :) that is my biggest worry now is keeping it on the Tarmac, really don't want to bend anything, with this kit tho, it's so strong I'm more like to bend the subframe before I go snapping or bending the wishbones themselves!
You thinking of fitting something like this then Morgan?

I see what you did there.

I would love to have something similar but without tubbing my arches and rebuilding the strut tops my setup is as extreme as its going to get as far as caster and track width. Camber is adjustable to about 10 degrees so have no great use for it yet.

If I get a cheap lathe at some point I will have a crack at my own kit over a winter and redo the engine bay with more roll cage tie ins to chassis legs and strut tops. I need to get out there using it and bending bits first.

update time! but unfortunately not a good one, after a lot of hard work the last couple of weeks to get this car ready for the track day today all ended in tears this morning,

last night after doing a couple of last minute jobs we tried to start it but with no joy, it's just kept cranking over and wouldn't start, which we wasn't to worried about as its always difficult to start from cold. so as the drive way to garage is very steep I decided to push it out the garage and tow up to the house to get it ready for the trailer in the morning. Finally got it up to the house and left it there until this morning.

Anyway woke up at 6am and went outside to try starting the car with a little help with 'easy start' ,as soon as I got to the car I could see gearbox oil on the floor, stuck my head underneath and at first glance I thought is was just the seal on the drain plug and then I realised it was much much worse than that

As you see the end plate has a massive hole init where the end of the final drive pinion sits. I couldn't believe it, i was absolutely gutted!
I haven't got a clue how this has happened, I didn't even drive it as wouldn't start, went for a walk up road to see of I could fine the metal piece and found it right next to garage door, so didn't even happen while towing it!!

All I can say is I'm so sorry to nick from pure Motorsport for the wasted journey down here to Wales! and everyone else who's help me get the car ready for today!

Next step now, strip the engine out and get the gearbox out for a closer inspection and see what the damage to the wallet will be :(

Not good Andrew. Has that had glue or some type of sealant on it? Doesn't look like a fresh break from the pic.

I think your right, I've just had a good look at it and you can see some kind off black sealant on there. and the rubbing marks on it don't look fresh either. As if its been damaged and repaired before. I just can't believe I didn't spot this earlier!!

Hi Ian, ye I went down there, I did see the clio, was setup completely wrong, I had a good look at it after it smashed the back end in and it was still on cup suspension, and it must of been a ex endurance car as it had a 100ltr tank inside the car, one thing I didn't understand was why they have put standard rear door cards back in?

I see what you mean by the wrong final drive in the box, I'm going to have the same problem, maybe try and get mine changed before Xmas stages

just to put you all righ!!. the car is on jenveys it was on the rollers two weeks before with 170bhp at the wheels nothing major but thats a standard engine , its not on clio cup suspension its only the legs that are clio cup parts as i have put escort inserts in it . i didnt smash the rear end in i was hit by another competitor. yes the gearing is long as i cant afford the 2k to by the final drive and get it rebuilt at the mo . its not a 100 ltr take its a 40 ltr tank it were it is as when we had ran it out in the middle east it had to have a atl bag tank in it for the regs out there. it wasnt my first event in the car i did a two day event up in anglesey the weekend before and had a 3rd in class.

Hi Lloyd sorry for the mis information, you did look like you where struggling with the back end on the 90's so just presumed you must of caught the back end somewhere, and for the bag tank it looked quite big when I had a nose down service, I was looking for you but didn't see anyone around the car!

ye the final drives for these sadev boxes are mega money, I couldn't believe how expensive they are, and swr put there little bit on top too! I've been lucky enough to find a new one for 800 euros from a guy in France who had it as a spare!

Update time :
Its been quite a while since the gearbox broke down, turned out the wrong bearing was fitted to the final drive which caused 'end float' in the shaft which in turn punched a whole in the end casing!

When I finally got the gearbox and the lid off to inspect it, it wasn't a pretty sight! Nearly all the gears needed to be replaced as the dog teeth where smashed to bits, including the all dog rings

ba6e9agu.jpg

Also had to change one of the dog ring gears and one of the needle bearing hubs as they had both worn, causing 4th gear to become solid when refitting the gear set! been such a hassle to fix, I must of taken this thing apart about 10 times!

While the box was apart I decided to change the final drive, as the 3.2 which was init was far to long for rallying, I managed to source a new much shorter final drive from France for a really nice price :)

here is a few pictures of the build, all in my utility room of course ;) ( the Missus wasn't impressed lol )

Are you doing Epynt in 2 weeks ? If not when are you planning to be out

No won't be out up epynt unfortunately, I'm thinking of doing the hill climb in llys y fran that weekend, just to get use to everything more than anything, my first rally event is most likely going to be pembrey in October. Are you going to out for that one?

No I won't be doing pembrey again , won't be doing anymore single venue rallies , doing the next 2 epynts then hopefully Wexford in September , going to do more rallies in Ireland on closed roads instead

Ye I know what you mean, the likes of pembrey are car killers! So much broken Tarmac and pot holes, I do fancy doing a closed road event something like the Jim Clarke would be a nice one to do next year maybe

Only just seen this and I'll have to go through the whole thread when I get home! In the meantime, how much does that box cost if you don't mind me asking? Not cheap I presume?

  Clio172cup rally car
At least twice as much as your car is worth.

Haha! That's just for the box, it's the rest Like the shafts, selector and gearstick which bumps the price up and that's not including the subframe and mounts to fit it! tbh looking back at it all it probably wasn't worth the hassle, but I've always wanted a sequential ;)

  Clio172cup rally car
But is it worth it in the end?

for pure enjoyment yes!! But for what it cost, putting that money into engine would of probably been more of a performance gain!
I always wanted the sadev dogbox out of the gr.n car but they hold there value well, when the sequential came up at a really good price I couldn't say no

  182cup & 172 racecar
Strong enough, one was my fault by trying to change gear whilst hitting a big curb, and mangled the selectors. The other just slowly fell apart in a race, started by jamming in 5th!! scarey.

There's a vid of that race on here somewhere, I ended up holding it in gear with my right hand for the last part of the race.

Oh, and Coca Cola paid for them, so I didn't ask the cost, but I know it was a lot.

Found it. Start jamming at about 7.30, but it's all worth a watch lol.

yea he had a few in different states of stripping sold parts just re-read the thread lloyd is on here too read the thread and just found out i may need to change the cwp in the box as he had problems with gearing so i will to! it will have to wait till next year as i have got it all fitted in the megane now need to move the engine and box 20mm to the n/s for inner wing clearance and the n/s shaft is almost too short will have a spacer made for a temp fix so i can get it mapped end of the month ready for tempest
bits are ubber expensive from sadev just the barrel sensor for the gear display was £175 so i opted for a non sadev display not geartronics either
;)

I heard he was selling all the parts very cheaply ! I would have been interested in buying the box as a spare but you got in before me , which is a good thing as i'm buying a brand new ST82-14 before the end of the year to mate to the rebuilt F3 engine to go in my car as I don't think my current one will cope.

I don't suppose if you know if he has any tuned engines for sale , looking for one over 200hp to use for Jersey as my engine rebuild keeps getting held up and i'm running out of time

Just to add i'll be selling my sadev in the next 6 weeks , it has the lower CW&P for rallying , and has just had a brand new barrel sensor from sadev ! looking for £5k for it , which is what I have spent on it in the last year lol

  Clio172cup rally car
Bloody hell Ian, that box is going to cost a fair bit I imagine? Wouldn't a st75-14 be able to handle the power of the f3 engine? Will you need a have a custom bell housing or could you use the same one as the European spec clio cup racers? fair play tho it's going to be a weapon when completed, you could of bought a clio s1600 or r3 maxi buy the time you've finished ;)
