I would not say that this issue is a "known Fault"..
What actually happens is that the Accessory belt shreds/snaps/jumps causing parts of the belt to crack/smash the cambelt cover, or it slips behind the Crankshaft pulley and damages/snaps the cambelt.. So you end up with a buggered engine...
You only get one chance to bed the rings in.. And that is within the first 100 miles or so.. But that means pretty much ragging it.. ie giving it some load..
The PDI manual for the Impreza STi states that the vehicle has a 20 mile hard test drive.. Why? To bed the Rings.. :D Always liked doing...
Matty: when you see a car that has been "Flushed" and it starts to piss oil out of every seal/gasket then you will see the problem.. ;)
Darsworld: 5W40 is Fully Synthetic.. Do a search because the Oil topic has been Done to Death..
The Squealing might be due to the Aux Belt Idler Pulley Bearing.. Would be worth replacing that at the same time.. Common problem..
Or the Power Steering Pump.. Especially when you say it goes away when on lock. Check the PAS fluid level..
You need to remove the Metal Fuel injector cover.. There are two nuts holding it on.. You will need a long socket to get to them..
Other than that is pretty straight forward..
I personnaly wouldnt recommend Engine Flushing as it can cause problems afterwards with weeping gaskets, excess oil use etc..
Why? because it removes carbon and Gum deposits that have built up around Oil seals etc.. These actually inhibit leaks etc..
If you are doing regular oil changes...
The RUK Fix is to cut the connector out and solder the wires..
Why? because the connectors are Sh*te..
On the MK 1 (1998-2001) you remove both Drivers & Passenger Connector.. On the MK2 (2002 - on) you only Remove the Passenger side Connector..
The bacteria Grows on the Evaporator.. Mainly due to lack of use.. It can be Killed of by an "antibacterial" spray or by using the A/C more often. To limit the growth you should run the A/C ALL year round..
A/C acts as a dehumidifier and clears that winter morning condensation in double quick...
The Aux belt MUST be Replaced at 36K/5years whichever comes first as per the service schedule..
It is not a case of inspecting it and replacing if it looks worn. Any dealer who says that it isnt essential to be replaced at 36K is out of order and is not following Renaults schedule..
On a...
Yes A/C does use a little more fuel, and yes older vehicles used even more.. Compressors now are pretty efficient and it is not that noticable..
Not running the A/C regularly can risk the Pipe seals drying out and leaking or at worse, causing the compressor to be starved of oil and therefore...
Faulty engines go back to Renault, They strip them, Clean them, Rebuild them using new parts where required, then they get crated up and dispatched to the next dealer that needs a replacement.. So they look just like "New"..
They also do this with Gearboxes, Turbos, Driveshafts, Alternators...
So the rattling noise happened just after the fanbelt Snapped?
Cos it if that is the case then there is a good chance that the cam cover and/or cambelt was damaged when the Accessory belt snapped.. A common problem unfortunately..
Should be covered under warranty, and a Reconditioned engine...
Correct, Blue sidelights are not allowed as they are part of the MOT and as such they must be white.. As are headlights..
But you can display Blue on any other part of the vehicle (not the rear) as long as they do not flash.. ie like a cop car..
You can ONLY display Red on the rear.. and No...
Look under both front seats.. You will see a grey plastic connector with a blue and a brown wire going in/out..
Cut the wires off the plug and solder them together.. ie blue to blue, brown to brown..
That should cure the problem
Running a new STi In!! Hahahah.
Was a tech with a Subaru dealer for two years.. The PDi manual states that the STi has to be test driven for 20 miles before delivery to the customer.. Varying the speed and revs from high gear low revs to low gear high speed/revs..
Basically caning it...
Yes I work in a dealership but we would be unable to help..
What you need I guess is the "type Approval" certificate or similar.. This would be available from Renault UK and you will have to keep on their case im afraid!
How much has the car/shipping from HKG and repair cost so far? As its...
Could be a number of renault issues..
1: Defective Spark Plug/plugs.. Solution: tech note issued by Renault UK, It goes by the date code stamped on the plugs..
2: Faulty Upper Engine loom and/or Map sensor.. Solution: tech note issued by Renault UK, Possibly having to replace either Map...
