i'd go for a mk1 1.8 16v in good condition as it's older it'll be cheaper on the tax, parts should be easier and cheaper to get too, also with it being older insurance would be kinder.
there's always a good chance you'll crash or do some sort of damage to your first car so i wouldnt go...
the 172 and 182 inlet are only different in a position for one securing bolt and a take off for the carbon canister. both of which are not needed.
this inlet is from a 172 but I had it on my 182 trophy for about 6 months without any problems whatsoever
this country is going down hill really quickly
i'll openly admit I only got a d at GCSE english many years ago but the grammer and spelling in this is shocking !
just seems a hell of a lot of damage for hitting a lamp post add to the fact that the airbags didnt fire, the dent that looks more out of place is the one in the roof.
I used work as part of a big body shop in stoke so saw cars coming in quite often never any with every single panel damaged...
the honest reply is that if you have the rs stamped lower half of the inlet there's a marginal increase in power.
if it's a none rs stamped lower half then anything up to 7bhp
theres no way all that damage was done in the crash I think the owners gone around it and dented some more panels to make sure it's a write off.
doesnt look like the eat airbags fired
Thanks
I think buy it now at £250 is a decent price considering on a non exchange basis from awt they're £250 and this has had many many hours spent polishing it up.
and as u'r from crew ben i could meet u in stoke area next sunday save posting it if u wanted it
i'd be more worried that someones ringed your car (or your car is the ringed one) have you called the seller? be polite though as they might not know themselves. some useful places to check for chassis numbers are under the dash there's about 2/3 stickers on various parts including the clocks...
replace windows for perspex items.
bonnet, boot and doors for fibreglass / carbon / kevlar
go for some motorsport wheels
remove all interior parts including the dash replace factory seats for a lightweight race bucket seat (Just the 1 who needs passengers!)

yes you are correct you will kill voice coils if you have an amp which is clipping due to being under powered (usually a problem with subs rather than components.
I was sort of incorrect with my post you wont always blow standard speakers with an amp but if you're considering...
waste of time and effort you'll blow them up if you amp them.
if you have free time it might be wise to sort all the wiring out ready to install some better speakers i.e. power down one side rca's down the middle and speaker cables down the other side this isnt a particularly quick job
