I'm running Crysis @1680x1050 in High on a 640MB GTS runs very slick - also using the DX10 mod can run in High at the same settings all be it a little slower. Add in AA and the game looks lush but is jerky
Some do and some don't, I have found that nForce based chipsets normally do. I'd give it a go without first. When I did my XP machine I used a disk image of an IDE drive onto the new SATA drive, tried booting Windows, and all was good. My pc is however donkeys years old now, I'm guessing Service...
Some SATA drivers are included in the chipset drivers. My intel motherboard didn't require any drivers either.
Check the boot order, some BIOS's use a legacy boot system, there may be some crafty settings you need to tweek
Take a look at http://crucial.com/uk/ put in the details of laptop model, it'll tell you then what memory you need and 9 times out of 10 how much the laptop will take.

I have ditched the wirless option, and gone for a dLAN solution from Devolo. Pings are pretty good, connection bandwidth from router downstairs to pcs upstairs is arount 20mbps, quiker than broadband connection, online games run well with no noticable lag.. an option, but CAT5 ftw really!!
