T4RKO 172 Cup

Well I am still offshore so not been able to do any physical work on the car over the last week or so.
I have been doing plenty of research on various things and trying to prioritise what I need to buy and jobs to do.

I have ordered the CL RC5+ pads from the group buy, sorted a set of front and rear Brembo disks, pads & fluid from G172 and plan on getting a set of Matt Lewis Racing lines. That should sort the braking for the time being. I will take out my fogs and liners initially on track until I have decided on a permanent solution.

Road wheels are at home waiting for me. All I need to get for them is a set of spigot rings. Track tyres for the track wheels are still being looked into. I have found some second hand ones I am enquiring about so may have something sorted soon.

That should be enough to just get out on track and get a feel for things.

Cages are playing on my mind. The Safety Devices seem great as they come powder coated but I would much prefer a non dash dodger that went through the dash but no-one seems to supply these powder coated so will have to enquire about this and compare the overall costs.

I know what I am going to do in regards to seat rails and brackets and it will be just a case of saving up for seats and getting everything aligned and welded in when the time comes. Unsure of what seats yet but this is turning out to be an expensive venture so budget FIA seats will be most likely. Recaro Sprints, Bimarco, Cobra Monaco Pro or similar.

That's enough for now I think as these updates aren't much good without any progress or photos! lol

And now for some entertainment here is a video of me crashing a bike. I qualified 2nd in the wet which was a surprise as I was just taking it easy. The race in the afternoon was dry and I led the race from the start and thought I had it in the bag. Little did I know that there was a guy who didn't qualify so well in the wet but fast in the dry making his way through the pack. We never had a pit board as it was just a family outing at a club race so I just carried on regardless. On about the second to last lap this kid sneaks through up the inside into turn one which caught me by surprise. I was annoyed at myself for taking the last few laps like it was a track day so attempted to re-pass at the next turn and get my head down. I wasn't quite along side as he started to close the door and my fairing or engine case touched the curb and down I went. Anyway here is the video and and rider you see first is a back marker but it was left in the edit so you can hear the commentary.

Finally got home from offshore to be greeted by these waiting for me:

I bought a tow strap from eBay and managed to find one with a 15mm hole so I had less to file off. I have seen K-Tec sell them with a 16mm hole but their price takes the p*ss.

I also bought one for the rear with 13mm hole.

Anyway this is what they both look like:

For the front I opened out the hole from 15mm to 16mm so I could get a standard bolt through. The depth of the original mounting point is only about 40mm so a 16x40 should do. My bolts were a little long so I had to use a nut as a spacer for now.

Once I had aligned it up against the car I cut a slot out where the strap would come through and made sure it would be a straight pull and not put pressure on the grill or bumper.

Then with the undertray removed I tightened it up and poked the strap out.

Current brakes are fine but going for a full fresh set from G 172 so these drilled and grooved front discs will be up for sale soon. They are a little rusty but only from sat without a wheel on for a few days:

Not so rusty here after being driven:

Well the brake parts have arrived but so has the snow!

And got the first corner done:

Had a hold up on the backs as the spacer was missing between the hub and bearing so will do these tomorrow hopefully. Item 8 I believe!

Well no one but me has posted in this thread in the last two weeks but I'm going to keep posting anyway. Lol.

I braved the snow and wind and finally got the front brakes on. They still need bleeding but I want to get the rears on first and bleed them first. After fitting the drivers side disc, pads, lines and Stud conversion I couldn't resist putting a wheel on just for a look.

Get the rears sorted tomorrow when the bearing spacers arrive, get it all bled through and then I might take it for a spin to the barbers!!

Coming on nicely. Might have missed it but we're the discs shot or you just wanted new ones on there? Looked ok in the photos on my phone.
Brave man working in the cold, I'd of stayed inside!!

Hi

Wheels look good

Thanks. They look like they will suite it better than the Black Comp 2's

Yeah the original brakes were fine I just fancied starting from fresh with a complete new set so I know what's what. I don't know what make the front discs are but they are fine condition so will put them up for sale. I thought the back discs were a bit thin but turns out they aren't much thicker when brand new anyway. Glad I looked now as the rears were missing the baring spacers.

Calipers need painted

Yeah they are in a bit of a state but at least in perfect working order now. I didn't have enough time this week to do the callipers and as they were wet, oily, dusty and rusty I though I would leave it until summer when I have more time and maybe even get them stripped back to metal and paint them up properly.

What exhaust did you get in the end? Making good progress mate, not afraid of the cold are you!

I got the Pure Motorsports Race system without the mid silencer. They managed to get me one sent out just after New Year so I could get it fitted before I went offshore. Sorry for letting you down and hope you got yours sold on. I need to get the Brakes all finished before Friday really so don't have a choice but to get on with it whatever the weather. Got farm buildings coming out of my yin yang but non that I can fit a car into!

Their engine mounts, the wishbones with strenghting kit and bearings, stud and nut kit, low temp thermostat and the preloaded bearings for the top mounts.
Know what ya mean about hving a wish list haha.
I'll have a load of bits to sell now tho so hopefully I can make enough go get the exhaust :)

I spoke to Nick about the exhaust being round and not slash and he said it was a mistake and they company who makes the exhausts for them must have got it wrong and they don't unwrap them before posting them out. Looks more purposeful being round but still not great on their behalf not knowing what they are sending.

I'm wondering if photos linked from Facebook will work? Soon find out.
No work done on the car today as the parts never arrived. So here are some snow photos:

I have plenty of empty buildings (or buildings I could empty) but none of them have a door big enough to get the car in. I have a tractor shed but it has other machinery in and the floor is always wet and quite far away from where a I keep all the tools etc. I really need to get something sorted though. 😧

Really like the white 1.2's mate.. good effort on working in the snow, whenever im out in anything other than a hot summers day the neighbours like to have a sly comment that does my head in...
what is the end goal with the car then?

It would be incredible having all that land, very jealous! Where do you find the time to work, do the car and look after the animals/land?

I do like white wheels but I just couldn't live with the cleaning of them! I find silver bad enough

Thanks. Eventually I would like it to be a race car as I miss the bike racing and paddock atmosphere. At the moment I am still using it to drive up and down to Aberdeen so will see how things go as I won't be able to do that when I start getting some camber.

I am trading in the Audi and Navara today for a Kia Sorento so will have less vehicles to chose from too!

Nice! As if you have that much snow. Your land looks great

I think we had about 8" in total. It's a lovely sunny day today but cold so all the compressed snow has turned to ice.

We have about 21 acres in total. We have only lived here a year and the land needed some maintenance. We have got some of the fields in good shape but need to do more this year. Spraying rushes, topping, grazing and draining. It's quite wet land so doesn't take much to make it a mess. We have some fencing to do before we put any sheep on this year as they can get through to next door!

I work offshore and usually go to work for a rest. It's certainly a full time job at home. My wife works as a Nurse so whilst I am away she is very busy too.

I am a little concerned that race pads might destroy the white wheels which is why I may use the black ones for the track which is a shame as the White look really race car!

  A special one.
21 acres!!!!! You sir have got your priorities all wrong.

The 1st thing I'd be doing is getting a workshop built.

The big brute Nigel the Navara is getting traded in right this second. :(

The Kia parked next to it is what I will be driving home. It will do everything I need of it but nothing exciting. I will have the Clio for Thrills!
