T4RKO 172 Cup

I think most consider the Momo a better boss but the price for the combo was a considerable saving. The OMP wheels seems to be pretty popular and also a good price. I have read a few posts on how to remove the steering wheel. The only bit I am not looking forward to is removing the air bag unit clips!

It's easy. Some recommend undoing the battery for 20mins but it's not needed. I've done it without.

Tilt steering wheel 90 degrees then unclip the back of steering wheel with flat screwdriver (my ph1 was torx bolts but pretty sure my ph2 was flat clips), then 180 degrees the other way to remove the opposite clip. That frees the airbag but will be held on by 2 wires. Unclip those and its off. Next is the steering nut. (24mm off memory) Remove that and the wheel is free.

Nothing new to report today but Just incase you were wondering why the thread is called T4RKO these photos of previous cars might explain it.

Steering wheel day today:
Managed to get the airbag off ok.

This shows the difference between standard and 330mm. I think 300 would be too small so happy I went for 330

More to follow soon....

Well I didn't have time to upload all the Photos earlier so here is the rest of the pics.
Wheel off:

So whilst this was off I decided to take the radio controls off I don't need and Hoover out all the crap that was behind there.

The air bag connectors were a tight fit through the boss but it is doable if you open the clip first before feeding them through.

I decided I was going to extend the horn cables and use both wires rather than use the wheel as an earth.
Should have don't this bit before putting the air bag sensors through but not to worry.

Once it was all tested I could get the boss on the splines and tighten it up.

I then put the rubber boot on, washer on and first screw in loosely:

All the screws in and connect the horn up and job done for now.

I say for now as you may have noticed I have missed a few steps there in regards to air bag resistors. There was a fused resistor with the boss but it was very loose in the connector and didn't seem to work. I tired it in both of the two air bag connectors to no avail so I have left it off at the moment and will sort something out one day. I figured all I would need to do is pull back the rubber boot on the boss and get enough space to play with it without having to remove the wheel.

When you say you tried it in both of the connectors, surely that's not going to work as you will need one in both?

Wheel looks bloody awesome though mate, how does it feel?

They only supplied one and I don't have another resistor to try so will get hold of another and try again. I know they are cheap but I might as well contact the supplier and explain they sold the boss vehicle specific and it doesn't work so please send another.

Just to confuse the matter further, the air bag light was already on before I started and the garage that sold the car said they didn't think it was the seat connections but the air bag unit on the steering wheel so was hoping this wheel change and resistors would solve this.

Was I right in the way I described in the removal? I started to doubt myself after I posted it.

Wheel does look good and as I said to Daniel, 330 is the perfect size for a daily and a blast!

It's becoming a race car slowly slowly with a little bit at a time.

The instructions to remove the wheel were right enough. This boss does cancel the indicators as well.

Found the brake light was on all the time before when I reversed up to the house and saw the reflection in the window. Turned out that the switch is a push to break and it wasn't touching the pedal so was made and on all the time. Scratched my head for a while and couldn't find anyway to adjust the pedal or the switch so resorted to taping cardboard to the pedal. I went to search the forum and couldn't find much until I went to start a new topic. That's when I noticed there had been a guide about how to adjust the switch. Felt really stupid when I found out you can just pull the end of the switch which moves in and out with clicks. All sorted now. :)

Picture just cos I can:

I do not know. Only went down the road and back and used the indicator once. I will test properly next time I drive and see what it does in different situations.

Did some more stripping this evening. Started to uncover a few strange things. Took the roof lining out to find the underside of the roof looking like this:

Also after taking the pillar trim off there was a lot of dust which to me indicates sanding before spraying something:

Also started taking off the centre console and handbrake cover.

It's losing weight but starting to look rough! Lol

  A special one.
The roof damage would be caused by the bonnet catch failing at some point.

I bet it's had another bonnet.

There may have been some work done to the roof from the outside but these dints have been made from the inside. Perhaps panel beaters knocking it back out. The bonnet is crap on the car with dents, chips. rusty patches on the underside and outside. Wonder what is in that box I posted earlier...

Moving along with this quickly.
That roof is in bad shape, what you going to do with it put the lining back or just leave it?

I assume the package was your carbon bonnet, I was tempted with that myself.

Not sure what happened to the roof but might explain the Cat D status. Must be some filler in and about there but I won't worry about it. No more weight than having a big dump before a session. Lol

Here is today's progress:

Standard bonnet was a state:

Couldn't believe the original receipt was over £1000!!!
A few blemishes in the lacquer but I will either live with it or get it sorted if my body shop man can do it. He said sometimes it can be difficult if it is pre pregnated and not lacquered.

Still shocked at this:

I am now 100% convinced the roof has had a re spray in the past. It's a different colour and the edges show signs of masking. I am thinking of maybe wrapping the roof black. The silver doesn't match at the moment so it might as well really not match!

ITB's have arrived! A bit premature as there are plenty of other things I need to do first but couldn't resist buying them so will just shelve them for now until I am ready.

Noticed today there was still a lot of metal on the rear after cutting the wiper off! Had the IronX out again as I don't want it damaging the paintwork.

Anyway the carbon wiper cover arrived today so I have out that on for a trial fit. Needs a bit of sealant and lock tight on and to clean the window properly but it's on for now

looking very nice! i have that gremlin at the back of my head telling me to cash in and get a cup. this aint helping at at all. subscribed!

I would have have just a black one but the fibreglass one they do requires painting so couldn't be bothered with that. With the carbon bonnet I suppose it goes ok. Still thinking of wrapping the roof and spoiler black.

PMS race exhaust on its way which should sound nice and should save plenty of weight.
Oh and I have a set of white 1.2 Pro Race wheels coming. Long story!!! Lol

Thanks for the comments Toby. It's a little rou around the edges but the engine feels strong and it was cheap.
