ive never bust one on mine and cant remember changing one that often at work either. must be your lead foot. how much are shafts from the main dealer? also consider some shafts in aftersales dont always look the same due to supercessions etc
its only got a lucas old style deisal pump so i would imagine its very simliar to the corsa if not the same. is the corsa one a bosch or lucas? doubt your going to gain anything though as your clio aint a turbo like the corsa
the tool is just a thin bar with a half inch drive on it. you put a step down on it to 3/8ths to go into the tensioner. you can easily use a 3/8ths power bar instead of the tool. take your front bumper off, unbolt the slam panel, undo the os engine mount and jack up the engine to give more room.
my k tec one sounds ok but quality aint great. its about 2-3 years old now. back box started rattling so had to go back under warranty about a year ago and now centre box is doing the same. Stay away from a magnex i had nothing but bother with mine. i will never buy a magnex again.
check for split gaitors hence a dry cv joint. renault shafts sometimes when the cv joint has gone make a buzz/humm noise as you slow down on over run. its a very strange noise to explain but had a lot of clio shafts do it. As above as well - knocking/rattling on lock is also a sign.
cheapest thing to replace the head - that wont be cheap.
you have only bent some valves and there not that pricey from motor factors.
you would need - cambelt kit,alt belt, set of valves at the most, headset and headbolts.
in my experience ive found 172 belts to be good and last to the interval. The only cambelt failures ive seen have been caused by the aux belt shredding and going into the cambelt. Having said that im going to do mine soon (around 60k)
ask how many 5 turbo owners have done headgaskets and cylinder liner seals and see if they agree.
the 1.7 is a renault which is an f type. used in 5,9,11,19 and 21 in non turbo form. Later used again in 1.8/2.0 in laguna etc. renault must have done a deal with volvo because in exchange...
i never see the point of 172 engine conversions you might as well buy a 172
the r5 engine is ok if built/tuned properley and is looked after
i bet he got that volvo engine for peanuts and it virtually dropped straight in. wouldnt take much time to get the wiring sorted. seems a cheap...
