182 FF Auxillary/Accessory belt DIY?

I've always taken my 182 to Renault just to get the stamps in the book, but as Lookers Chester want £330 to change the aux belt I'm having second thoughts. (Yep, that's just the belt change, not the service as well).

How hard is it to do this? I know that it's easy on the non-air con Cup, but on a 182 is it just time consuming or a specialist job?

I'm pretty handy with the spanners (done head gasket, engine swaps, new turbo etc) so is it something that can be done DIY?

The car's out of warranty so there's nothing to invalidate.

Thanks!

good luck, its a 2.2hr job from memory and you do need a special tool and 4pairs of hands, i hated doing them

yozzasport aren't far from you, they charge about £350 all in including service

how much should this be with no service? I had my cambelt changed and they didn't even do the aux belt!!! It was a non renault dealer when I bough the car!

Also have the part prices gone up for this?

price seems to have gone up for the kit

the belt is about £18, can't believe they didn't change it!

i'd say approx £120 in labour plus the belt

Was going to recommend the kit but they have just put the kit up in price to £107+vat (was £40.66 + vat last month GGRR!!))

I'm sure you will be able to do it if you can swop and engine & change a turbo.

Bought a kit on the 29th of December 42 quid iirc. 107 is ALOT! Glad i dont have to buy one again. I can do them in 1.5 hours easy

Cheers guys. What's the tool I need? Also, has anyone got the part number of the kit?

Is there a Haynes manual that covers the job?

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo
the tool is just a thin bar with a half inch drive on it. you put a step down on it to 3/8ths to go into the tensioner. you can easily use a 3/8ths power bar instead of the tool. take your front bumper off, unbolt the slam panel, undo the os engine mount and jack up the engine to give more room.

individual parts prices

idler pulley £49.83+vat
tensioner pulley £145.44+vat
aux belt £17.31+vat

OR buy everything (idler, tensioner + belt) as the complete kit

£107.15+vat

go figure! lol renaults pricing is very odd

I've heard of dealers charging the full whack for the tensioner, when actually they just bought the kit for 40 quid and kept the other parts back!

Yup just rung Renault up and it's £120+ for the kit, i'm so annoyed I didn't buy it when it was cheaper!!

Got a good mechanic who will fit it for £80 too.

Hey chaps, just been doing a bit of research...

Just rung Renault up and asked for a quote for a scenic 1.6 with aircon aux belt kit.. £50. Guess what though?

Both the idler and tensioner part numbers are the same as the clio 172 one so do the math.

£50 for kit.
£20 for belt

= £70.

I'm a bit skeptical as he sounded like a bit of a numpty so i'm going to go down and look!

Just a heads up, maybe Fred / Eddie et al can confirm as I can't get to Renault until a weekend!

7701476475 £36.70+ vat for the aux belt kit (tensioner and belt) for the senic

7701477519 £107+vat for the kit for the 172/182

  172
can you see what the part numbers are on the scenics tensioners and idlers Fred?

I rang Renault and the scenics idler and tensioner pully was the same as the 172 part number.

  Lionel Richie
172/182 tensioner 8200429703 (there is an idler pulley also)
senic tensioner 8200371058 (£100+vat on its own!)

  Lionel Richie
well on the renault system it shows no idler, (but the renault system isn't 100% accurate)

the part numbers and prices are always accurate

e-mail ebay bloke and ask for part numbers?

he maybe just selling the £36.70+vat kit for £50 to make some cash?

  172
I emailed him and he gave me the part numbers of the 172 items, i'll ask him again now.

Yeah I rekon he will be making a little profit but would relly like to know what kit that is and why the 172 kit is so much more.

Maybe too good to be true. oh well.
