i Love Duttys when it has the 172 wheels on it! Simple and yet very very effective! :)

Reason for modifying? well it stands out compared to the average car, also this is my first car so i couldnt afford to insure a 172/182. tho my dad has a 182 and i much prefer it to mine but this will do me till i'm older

duttys car looks quality! looks so much better that any modded car with body kits etc and lexus lights look rubish like the mark 3 clio!

im sure the site says for ALL clios. dosnt say anything about the clioSport name relating to the RenualtSport cars...

i didnt say that I know its for all clio enthusiasts. Im not a clio snob but I think its a site for people who like drivers cars more than body kitted cars.

personally i dont see the problem with making a 1.4 or whatever look like a RS.

isn't it the same with you lot with your 172/182 sticking on cup spoilers and that?

pot... kettle.

As soon as he asked the question i was thinking Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo. Stunningly beautiful, streets ahead of any Renault etc. Fast as well; 220hp as standard and they chip easily.

Or Integra Type R? For that money tho, its early import time

oh and the standard clios do look a bit sh*t, even renualt must have thought so as the new ones look like a cross between a 306 and focus.

Standard or as near to std is the best.....just my opinion.

Agree with you about this f**king chav thing..it's everywhere on every single forum, even bike ones etc....it's got to be the worst phrase ever.

I like modded cars and there are some very tastefully modded Clios on here.
I personally like to make a few changes to my cars just so they you're less likely to pull up next to an identical one!!
I had two 1.2 Clios and modified them before I hit 21 and went for a 172.

As long as a motor doesn't look like its ram-raided Halfords then why not change a few bits and pieces!!

Only thing that does get me is when people badge their cars as RenaultSport when they aren't!!! lol Saw a standard 1.2 Dynamique which had, had Sport shonkily stuck under the Renault Badge. No harm in copying the styling of an RS but it just looks a bit silly (IMO) badging your car as something its not! :)

Indeed....subtle is the way to go and if you are going to cosmetically modify a car, just make sure it's done properly and with quality parts.

I'm going to change a few bits and pieces on my car but stuff you can't see anyway like ecu and brake hoses etc.

Similar to mine mate but yours is lower and I have a ph1. Subtle is the key..as I always say!

Part the reason why I love the euro style motors is that removing rather than adding things is a big part of it!
Removing door handles and bump strips and smoothing a car always looks good in my eyes.

No. reason bein we've still got the power. A kitted up 172 look alike will get humped and then the type R or such like will be boasting to their friends of how they beat an RS

The simple dynamique colour coded and lowered looks spot on. Make 16vClio's old car or Dans, Robfenn's. All avoiding the RS look whilst still imo the smartest non RS's on here.

Will all the mods on my 1.2 my insurance was only just lower than my 172!!! Food for thought guys, it's not as bad as you think.

With the greatest of respect Ali, the 'weve got the power' argument is a bit lame. While the RS is probably quickest of all clios its still just a glorified shopping trolley and in the grand scheme of things isn't anywhere near the quickest thing on the roads.

I'm not denying its a good car but if you think having an extra 80-100bhp sets you guys apart from 1.2/1.4/1.6 peeps when modifying you're sadly mistaken...they're still 'just' a clio matey!

Big bag of bothered.....

I didn't buy my car because of what everyone else thought of it, or how much better it was than someone elses car.
I bought my car cos it was cheap, reliable (no, seriously ;)) and makes me grin.
Couldn't give a rats ass about what anyone else drives, or what bodykit they've nailed on.
Each to their own, its called evolution.

Lets face it, people should buy what they want to buy!! Simple as that, its all opinion at the end of the day.

  RB 200 Cup!
I'd like to point out (after reading the earlier posts) that i think it is silly making a smaller engined car look like a faster one i.e. 1.4 into an RS. Okay my car on page three of this thread has 182 wheels but thats only cos i personally love the style and got em really cheap - im not gonna put 182 bumpers skirts etc on it to make a 182 replica - theres no point. Someone I know has put 2.0 16v badges on his 1.2 for Christ's sake! absolutely stupid - plus im proud of my 1.6 16v - great little car...

Spot on!! Cannot argue with that!! Been saying for agers Its just a Clio, It like its some elite club to have a RS, the only Clio that gets that respect from me is the Vee, Loads of everyday people drive RS but only a true enthiusat will have a vee!

And Ali, yes i proabably could have bought and insured and 172 or just a little more, but then id look like every other boring 172 on the road!! For me its all about been different and making something for people to love or hate!! Ive got enough years to go fast but ill grow out of the exterior modifying! And when it is time to go fast it wont be a clio im driving!!

some pics of mine, agree with the comments that sports arent the 'be all and end all' as some of the people on here think, i've thoroughly enjoyed modifying my car, and wouldnt dream of swapping it for a sport, like my petrol consumption and insurance too much :) anyway some pics to keep on topic ;)

Yeah it looks good.

And yes some people on here seem to think you need a sport to be cool.. well fact is that some people (the younger generation like me) cant afford the insurance on them. So we go for the smaller engined models... gives out the same fun but at a cheaper price

its not making it look fast its making it look good. define what you mean by "looking fast"

  RB 200 Cup!
okay i fucked up my words a bit - i meant making a car that has a smaller engine into a replica of a car with a bigger engine for example sticking on wheels and bumpers to a 1.2 to look like a 2.0 clio or whatever - i personally dont see the point but then everyones got their own opinion im not trying to put anyone down

  RB 200 Cup!
no - im not sure about the wheels myself! lol i got em cos my mate works for renault and they were much cheaper than any other 16"'s i saw and liked but im not gonnas stick replica 182 body bits on it - i think the odd things to make cars look better is okay just the real stupid things is making a complete replica or even people who stick the 2.0 16v side badge on a 1.2 - silly things like that is what really gets me...

sorry if thats long winded!

Boring old 172.....ah yes, that's the way I like it!

Think aftermarket spoilers etc on any car are s**t and a waste of money but that's just my preference....each to their own.

  Renault clio Mk1 1.8 16v
I honestly find some people on this site to be so quick to judge,i mean honestly how does it affect you in anyway if someone badges a 1.2 as a sport??

I know most of you hate my blokeys car(blue clio) but he bought the car at 17 as it had free insurance and he liked clios he now only uses the clio for shows and drives a 200bhp renault 5 gtt as his main car now he is older and feels he has the experience to drive it etc...

at the end of the day would you rather put a 17 year old behind the wheel of a 2.0l car after passing a test or see them in 1.2 modifies to there own tastes you should feel flattered that theses young people want to have sports and will admire yours

Yep, again i'm with Neil here...I could have bought an array of cars, But i chose the RS because it was fairly cheap, Agv performance, and has a good customer and client base.

I spent alot of money on my 1.2....Oh how i wish i hadn't!!!

Mullins - What's ur name! lol...Feel rude calling you "Mullins" I think your car is unique, but certainly not my thing, If your happy with it "Big thumbs up!"

It's none of my business what people do to their cars....My opinion is ultimately my opinion. People that do there cars up to look like 172's are generally doing it for all the rite reasons. But it's takin the novelty out of owning an RS. (Dutty's and austins) Are very smart...

I personally love the RS's/cups/valver/williams cosmetically std.

Therefore in summary i must be BORING! As the pic below shows.
