I must say, owning a car like these, it would drive me mad not being able to drive it because of bad weather. It's kind of what they were built for lol.

I know, it's f*cked lol. Was dying to do snownuts in the business park last week. I think sometimes it's overemphasised but having seen some 260s that weren't undersealed from the factory it's incredible just how badly they fair

Can they not be undersealed now then? Or will they still rust into dust?

Mine was superb in the snow..... and across a wet field too. :wink:

It seems so controllable on the throttle and easy to maintain direction. Assuming that's what you wanted to do - but if not, 360's were an easy enough option.

Mines had regular top-ups and cavity waxes but if you're thrashing it in the snow and salt it'll only do so much. Traps moisture too. At the end of the day I'm ok with not using it in Winter as long as I get to use it during the better months.

Precisely! Mines had it all stripped off and reapplied a couple of times in its two decades on the roads. They will ALL do it, it’s just how much of a catalyst you are in terms of grit and salt exposure.

That silver V is still up the road from me. I took these pictures today, looking all neglected and ignored. :disrelieved:

Such a shame for a capable car to be more or less abandoned like this. Only ever seen it on the road once in over four+ years of living here.

I would have at least put it under a tarp rather than leave it totally exposed to the elements.

Take this as an example showing just how quickly these cars deteriorate if left untreated. This was freshly imported not too long ago by this chap and clean underneath. Just a few days in the snow/salt and surface rust is covering the underside. :(

Why you would drive it in the snow until it was protected is beyond me. Even a coat of clear wax oil would be better than nothing.

Yeah there is that, too. Bit dumb! Obviously 10-15 years ago you could be forgiven, as people didn't realise Mitzy made them out of tetanus

They really do get eaten alive by rust, don't they?

It's really sad to see. Honestly I thought a lot of the guys on MLR were just being overly precious because of values rising, but this is why they're rising. There'll be none left before long.

Lots of love for Icelle Blue -- do you know how many 6's there are in Canada?

Canada didn’t get any 6’s so all have been imported from Japan. Not sure how many are in the country now. I never see any.

Bet you could count them on one hand now.

There are not many good clean 6’s in Canada.

There are some dogs which haven’t been looked after. Kids buy them and trash them.

Not many good ones come up at auction these days.

Currently doing a few running repairs on a red Makinen.

Car has been used everyday over the last 8 years by the owner.

Nothing new in way of areas affected by rust.

Most of the problems are down to design.The chassis legs are multi-skinned in certain areas.The joints are prone to rusting away from the inside.

I’ve seen a lot of cars over the years we’re adverts have stated “bit of surface rust” this,in my opinion has already turned into quite a big job.

Of course,most of them are just bladdered with heavy black underseal without repairs even carried out.

I personally wouldn’t touch something like that.

lol I thought about it, but then I thought about the cold starts and the curtain twitching. Bad enough as it is with the Russ Fellows. Don't think there are bungs, either

I really need to get my exhaust re-packed. The system itself is a Mongoose which is still in good shape - but it's had 10 years of use so I doubt there's anything left in the silencers.

If this snow and ice and grit could just jog on, that would be grand.

Yeah neither do most owners, until it's too late.

When they're working though, I swear only something really special can touch one on the road. I took mine to have the aux pulleys changed on Monday, early morning, low temps, dry, it was in its element.

I bet they’re a proper hoot, I’ve never driven one properly but they’ve always had my interest. If the wife wasn’t so dead against them I’d have a grey 8. Tbh it’d probably get stolen outside anyway

Hah, my wife won't even sit in it, never has. I've had it 16 months now.

Being a hoot, it's 19 years old this year. I'm sure a new S3 would give good chase, but be dull as f**k in comparison.
 
I really like them, anything a IV onwards interests me.. I will never forget when my old boss turned up in his brand new VI with the reg T222 EVO. I also remember seeing a IV around Lakeside many years ago, that thing was bloody rapid!

My own Evo heritage is pretty good...

In 1999 my Dad had a VI GSR brand new in Icelle Blue, I was 14. (He replaced an M.A.D. spec Escort Cosworth with the Evo.) Then I turned 17 and I was fortunate enough to be let loose in it insurance wise, nice company car loop hole the old man had. Then, when I was about 19 he replaced the blue VI GSR with a VI Extreme (if you know, you know) and then let me loose on track in it, perhaps most notably at Spa and the Ring.

He's been out of Evo's since about 2007 - I always said I'd have my own one day, the wife couldn't get in the way of that.

@cat171 - T222EVO really rings a bell from back in the day, did he used to do MLR Trackdays etc?
 
I'm not sure mate. He didn't have it for long as he got most of them on lease & changed cars like the weather lol! It was Reims blue & a proper Ralliart UK one.
