Considering a clio diesel

This one will have been driven quite hard (judging from the bad boy alloys) which is kind of a good thing in these.

Check for smoke on this one! but otherwise could be a bargain.

Previous Cat C which isnt great but if it was repaired well then there isnt any problems there.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-RENAULT-...mobiles_UK&hash=item1c1c0c1217#ht_1243wt_1141 i like this one however at that price id be wanting a load of history with it, it doesnt mention any. pitty it doesnt have AC.
the £1500 one could be a good bargain too just needs a bit of TLC by the looks of it

yeah it does sound pretty good, i wasn't keen on a black one but i may consider it, may try and get in contact with them to see if i can find out a bit more about it.
when you say the 1500, you mean this one - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../postcode/ba44pd/radius/1501/page/3?logcode=p

it says immaculate condition (but as per usual who knows what that means)...lol

yeah one lady owner, long mot on it isnt too shabby!!!

just make sure it pulls well in every gear with no hesitation or flat spots or importantly warning lights. it should keep pulling storong to 4,000rpm, that last 1000rpm between 3k and 4k usually shows any weaknesses in the fuel system with a warning light and loss of acceleration untill you lift off for a few seconds and let the fuel pump regain full pressure.

they arnt like petrol clios they should idle smoothly and on the dot from stone cold, no dropping or raising of the revs. like the petrols do when cold.

gearboxes should feel like they should in any normal petrol clio, you get good ones and bad ones, loads of gearstick movement shows a sign of a bottom dog bone mount on the way out, a nice cheap fix dont worry about it, mk2 dci's also shudder a bit when you turn the engine off, problem seems to have been sorted in mk3 clios, i instantly noticed it when i started driving them, but you get used to it!

should pull nicely from 1500rpm, max boost from around 2000rpm

that covers most of it i think!

88,000, Cambelt done last year (not documented but they checked with the last garage), stamped book but not full, MOT - january, Tax - few months, heater plug lights on but they will change them prior to sell, small pin dent in drivers door

The black ones very nice, been looking at it myself lately but lack of funds soon put a stop to that. Although the pics look odd.

The silver one seems slightly over-priced IMO* but looks tidy enough.

Looks lowered strangely, not keen on the colour but sounds good. Maybe a little over priced as it has the tow bar so I would imagine it's had a hard life, but then again that means it has been used properly and not just pottered about in.

i also am quite a fan of the colour, didn't particularly want another silver car, but would be easier to re-sale i guess.
have done up a document comparing the 2 favorites and had another conversation with the garage in Totnes and that seems to make more sense in the long run, just a proper pain i now can't view it until next weekend.

So after trying to sort out a viewing of the one in Totnes to only find out they are closed, it seems i am now off on a roadtrip to see the one in Leicester (see link above).
its instantly £200 cheaper than the other one and its a private seller so much more room for bartering than the other (garage) seller....

so now need to fill my brains with all the tail tail signs of what to look for.

Like its been said get over to cliodci.net to get more knowledged up about them for when you go to view if you havnt already lol. Check the boot floor, lift the carpet up and make sure its not out of shape. Before i got my dci i viewed another one, everything was spot on then a remember something i read on martins site and checked the boot floor and there was signs of it being rear ended. Antiroll bars are another common problem. Some people wont notice anything and will just think it was a small pothole they went over etc. So listen out for constant knocking. Obv check out the main things but also pay attention to the small things that make a big difference.

Good luck :star:

Don't worry about ARB. It's 7 quid ish for each bush to be replaced. It's a little bit of a bugger to do but it's the same on the petrol ones.

Then it's just all the same as the usual Clio problems lol. Make sure the glow plug light goes out and doesn't take forever.

Whats it like to drive? What did you change from? I'm looking at getting rid of the 197 to save costs with the amount of miles im doing.. would save me around £250 a month etc...

really nice and smooth to drive, this one seems in extremely good condition, i have changed from a 1.8 petrol (non-turbo) VW passat, its comfy enough and was getting 69mpg's on the way home... happy days

Good man, pictures matey?

no pics yet, will get some up shortly.

thanks for the advice everyone, i noted everything down and took it with me... the owner said he had never seen anyone so prepared lol

thanks...lol

just got off the phone to the insurers and a bit shocked tbh, most want more money than my passat that had wheels, suspension and a full stereo system.... this is completely stock...lol

Not a fan of the colour choice but appreciate any feedback you can give on the car.
Congrats :approve:

you see i like the fact its not silver or black.... something a bit different, but i will update with how life goes with it....

glad to see you went through with it. but check online for insurance. over the phone they are being proper con artists.

i checked on-line first (just on a comparison website) and it was giving me prices about £40 over what i was paying on my passat,
upon calling my brokers they said it would be a fair bit more, she also said it didn't help that they specialise in modified cars so this being totally stock could be an issue, she then spoke to my insurers and they confirmed they would keep my premium the same until my renewal next year, i spose at least i am not paying anything more out....
