Awesome. Didn't realise these where the plans :)

I guess I had never spoke about it to you, It was always the intention, since buying the Laguna, but I just hadn't time etc. Now the 1.5 is fooked, and its the end of the season, Ideal time for it.

Has been a plan for the last year :p just took us time to deside what's suitable.

Will be the next big thing, big diesels conversions on clios IMO

And that, working stuff out over the last few months has played off, although I still found out lots more by actually getting the engine into place, and theres obviously a lot more to figure out still.
I dunno about the next big thing, its a lot of hassle lol.

I've told him he should stop fannying around with this laguna engine and rip the lump out of his van.

You pay for a new van, and I will!

Physically won't work. I've tried lol

Impossible you say? I love it when people say impossible.

Without running a V6 body kit it won't work ;)
engine mostly take all the room up and the gearbox will be half in the wheel arch.

Plus the height of means it'll be sat on the sump on the floor to even close the bonnet. Looked piss funny when I tried hoisting one in

Anything is possible, with enough stupidity.

So, I would have liked to have got more done this weekend, but not been in the right mindset for it yet, plus I'd like to do things in the order I have them in my head.

I discovered the other day a Megane 1.9 DCi 6speed box would be a better fit, NDO01 box vs the Laguna/Trafic/Clio V6 huge PK6 box.

So bought one, and a megane shifter, as the NDO box has a different cable layout.

Ripped the enigne out, swapped box and got it back in... Much better fitting

Even the Clio mount lines up lovely
9AB3C241-160E-4387-B464-EF8F35FBD48B_zpsakc1ak7o.jpg

Ideal!
E3E29B22-7FFA-49C3-8347-0550EB96A734_zpszpuzlg5d.jpg

Next on the list now is to cut some of the chassis leg out, to get the gearbox higher (its currently sat on the subframe), and back ever so slightly.

I had a look at the Megane shifter, once I knock the studs out of the Clio tunnel it will bolt up perfectly.

Laguna doesn't have a in-tank fuel pump, so I pulled the sender unit out for nothing. Will have to fit a intank pump before I go for good power though.

Hopefully get the mounts sorted this week, Top gearbox one first, then Front and rear gearbox mounts. Need to decide how to do these.

More later this week I hope.

Pulled the engine out again today... Getting pretty damn good at it now.
688CF73F-9352-4BD7-9988-E68C29F6EDCE_zpsoxknjtfv.jpg

Removed the bulkhead sound deadening, as I ordered some Nimbus to replace it. Also removed the clutch cable after this photo.
15676772-C61D-40E3-8961-DB31FF7B0272_zpsowarbdnw.jpg

Then cut like 1/3 of the chassis leg out... Meaning I could get the engine back in, and mounted properly.
49E2CCEC-376E-450E-9659-60D3F1CA786B_zpscaah7xls.jpg

Plenty of room... Cut is much bigger than it needed to be, but I'll box it back up again, so I don't care really.

To get the engine and box level, I plan to trim the alloy part of the mount (Actually need another one of these, as this one is broken, no time to collect one though!)
CCA2870C-8372-4E9A-AF5A-89C70C63A64F_zpsqvxwiplf.jpg

Its certainly pretty close to level
089BFA06-C4FD-4B63-87D1-5CDA4B85515C_zps39vqw3tq.jpg

Look at the clearance on the rack! Thats with it right in too, so close as it will ever be. Ideal!
12709C8B-2119-4A60-BC2F-0B3E2B3E92E5_zpssixa52gs.jpg

Also bought a new inlet manifold from a Trafic 1.9, Came with the exhaust Mani, not that I need it.
732AB6D7-DFD9-48AA-94E5-CE81FA142B29_zpszryikg9x.jpg

Cleaned it up a bit and split it from exhaust mani. Reason for this inlet is due to the lack of intake flap valve thing, plus makes it easier to sort EGR blanking/EGT sensor.

Now the plan is to work on the wiring/shifter/clutch while my mate clears his backlog of work, then I'll get it up on the ramp, make dogbone/front box mount plus some other bits probably.

Progress is coming.

Lol at the wiring , mine looks like I'm half way stripping it down with no wiring loom needed.

Box is is mighty close to that boot, get a smaller boot ? Just incase it catches. You don't want s**t getting in there and having a nightmare changing the rack after it's all fitted ;)

uch getting sent out tommorow. Left the receipt in there as it's still got warranty I think

Yeah was doing some investigating on the wiring last week or whenever it was. Will hopefully make a start on that properly soon.

Its actually going to be miles away from the boot, with the engine in the correct location (tilted a bit) its even further away. Ive decided its going to be pretty solidly mounted (while still being rubber/poly) so won't move. If I have to change it I'll rip the engine out again lol.

Cheers very much dude, I had best get the wiring done to make use of it!

  Many.
lol, go source a wiring loom and ecu from a traffic first ;)

Im hoping I can just use the Laguna loom. Need to check wiring diagrams/strip looms, or just do as you said... I also need to decide what to do on the ECU front.

Manages all this but couldn't help me fix the golf ;)

Cheers for the phone call mate. Still stuck.

LOL, If it was a Clio, I'd have told you exactly how to fix it, and why it has fucked up. Hell, if it was any Renault really, Even a Vauxhall. I don't do german stuff!

I'll speak to some people tomorrow.

LOL! Cheers mate.

I think I've narrowed it down to one of two things.

a) Something is sending a dodgy signal back to the fan control module, (this can be anything from air con onwards apparently) and it's stuck the hi speed relay open.

b) The relay itself has jammed open after opening up for it about to over heat and then the engine being shut off entirely.

I could be totally wrong, but it's either a new module, or identify the faulty signal sender and change it out. I can't seem to find a pin out for the module though :(

Cracking work with the fitement of the conversion so far. Impressed.

  Many.
Hit it. Can solve a dodgy relay, but probably not in this case I admit lol.

I think its unlikely to be aircon related, or even the ECU really.

Certainly is a fucker, As said though, I'll have a quick chat to a couple of people, who are more up on VW's than I am and see what they say.

And cheers buddy :)

Seems the engine is a pretty good fit matey. I'm shocked the mounts line up! What a complete god send, will have to come up and visit sometime soon.

Not a huge update here.

Have progressed a little further on my build, not a huge amount, mostly just buying stuff.

I did mock up my 300mm calipers... I didn't think I'd have any clearance issues, and I was damn right, loads of space!
5D064BF9-93DA-400C-A027-A6C6F8772762_zpstrncnyse.jpg

Also mocked up/worked out where to fit my oil cooler. Its a 10row Mocal. This is due to me binning the oil to water cooler, for two reasons, firstly it makes coolant pipes much easier, and secondly, it'd be needed in the future, so may as well just do it now. I'll use a thermostatic plate.

I thought about here, between the intercooler and coolant rad, this would require moving one of the former, plus its not ideal for cooling purposes, although would still be quite efficent due to no air gap between everything.

But I actually decided here, its a bit tight, but I can make it work, will sort out brackets next week probably.

Then made a start on @trails Clio.

Found a few issues... Loose gearbox mount nut (like, not done up at all), plus broken gearbox mount, and various other bits, couple below.

Box is off to Agency and I'll be doing the Cambelt and dephaser while its away. It'll also get new clutch and few other bits. Plus lots of broken and missing bits fixed. One issue that has always bugged me on this car is the wiring isn't secured for the most part, and run completely wrong, so will spend a bit of time fixing that too.

With the purchase of another 172, I've run out of space

Plus I have another Clio waiting in the wings!

Keeping busy as always!

Thanks Alex

Not noticed it because its probably been like that since I bought it...along with the broken engine mount and a plethora of other bits of cowboy maintenance. Broken engine mount did make it challenging going round right hand corners quickly though... @welshname

That gearbox mount is ridiculous. I've no idea how someone wouldn't notice how bad that was?!?!?!

Also you need a unit.

Yeah, as below, its obviously been like it the whole time, and although I've driven this car, I guess I didnt look for it.

Too right I need a unit, I'm sort of it on it, but I don't want to be spending like £300 a month really.

LOL 5 Clios on the drive, good effort!

:D Keeps be busy and sort of off the street lol

Thanks Alex

You're welcome mate. I'm excited to see how good it is in the end!

No update on the RB yet, waiting for the box back from Agency.

But, this weekend means a good update for my Clio at last.
Towed it down my mates workshop, and got to work.

Pulled engine out, changed inlet and exhaust manifolds, re-assembled everything, but I'll be changing the turbo yet.

Ahh it's the front mount! Is that still my 182 subframe? If it is my friend will be happy his much loved car has the parts put to good use.

That engine isn't going to rock!

Yeah sorry I didn't reply to your text, will do so now. Is indeed your old subframe, hope I dont f**k it up.

It is pretty solid actually, concerned about vibration now.

And thats the rear mount done, pretty solid.

Towed home, now I need to work outdriveshafts, and then strip loads of bits so I can paint, or powdercoat them.
7869D8D4-84B8-40ED-90B6-F7C6A8EB1AAD_zpszjiz8s9v.jpg

I need to do something about the Subframe and engine mounts so thinking about powdercoat, although I think that'll start a bad run of wanting everything perfect looking.

  Many.
Great work Alex

I would recommend getting the bits you can see powdercoated as I'm glad I did it with my engine.

Cheers dude.

I was thinking about the mounts and subframe to protect them mostly, I am concerned this is going to turn into a shiney engine bay etc, with a dirty diesel engine lol. I think I'll paint the bits now for protetion, then worry about it later, too much else to worry about atm.
