90's modifying scene, what were we thinking????

Without wanting to sh*t on anyone's parade, virtually every car in this thread is from the early to mid-2000s, not from the 90s...

I know this, because I remember loads of them lol. It was a very different time and, although they look pretty tasteless now, the money and effort that went into some of them was quite impressive. As others have said, it's no worse than all the "stance" toss that's doing the rounds now. At least people actually did something to the cars, rather than just some idiotic wheels and a ludicrous suspension drop.

What about the actual Max Power modified Escort? :tongueout: #datcolour

I'm also going to leap to the defence of this car I'm afraid. The colour was divisive, and the audio a bit pointless, but it was actually pretty good underneath. Genuine Ford Motorsport F2 Kit Car wide arches, Spax adjustable dampers, roll cage. And the engine was a Mountune unit, based around that used in the F2 Kit Car, so high comp pistons, slide throttles etc etc. Was over 200bhp.

In fact, it's still with us, based in the north west of England. Now has standard bumpers and spoiler, new wheels, all the ICE is gone and it's been converted into a track day car, so has bigger brakes, better suspension etc. Very capable car, with an interesting history and some very rare/pukka motorsport parts on it.

Sounds good mate would love to see it now! I'm never going to hate on these cars too much, it was what got me interested in cars in the first place. Everything has its time and place :)

Yeah absolutely. Times and tastes change but I have some really good memories of that period so I look back on it with a lot of fondness.

Anyway, here we are, on with the pictures. These are coming up on a couple of years old but it's not really changed. It doesn't get used much now as the owner has gone back to racing with an MG ZR. As you can see, the paint work could do with freshening up, but it was done 18 years ago! For reference, the other car is my friend's Escort Maxi Kit Car.

Anyone that still drives this guff nowadays must have aspergers or some other mental health issues.
What an utterly ignorant & mean spirited comment to make... F**king shame on you. Shame on those who "liked" it also. Disgusting comment by a clearly disgusting person.

those were the days I remember my mates spending hours with a Stanley blade cutting chunks out their bumpers and fitting mesh, and spending weeks doing boot builds, I remember my mate chopping the bonnet across the width half way down on his nova and doing the same with an astra coupe and welding the half of the bonnet onto the nova then fitting the astra coupe front lights and hacking a bumper to bits to fit. id like to see these wee choads with stage 12.5 Golf R's on PCP with a 0% APR remap and wheels attempt that or to fit 6 subwoofers in the back seat ?

People make lowdown remarks like that, & I'm the "asshat" for calling them out on it? Yeah, okay. You must be just as bad...

It was your first post on this forum and you dragged up a 4 year old thread to complain about it? The user isn't even active on the forums anymore.

Go troll elsewhere.

Someone on here reminded me that i also too had a corsa 1.0 12v .....

Oh the pain ! When i finally sold that and got a 1.2 16v clio . It felt like a renaut sport mate .

I don't know why you think I'm trolling, because I'm not. I am sick & tired of seeing people with mental issues & disabilities in particular being made the punching bag of mean-spirited jokes & belittlement everywhere I seem to go, both in the real world & online. It's not on.

?????

Millennial snowflake by any chance?
Stop being so soft. Original commenter definitely has a point. Must be well up the asberger tree
Oh yeah of course, call me a snowflake, what a genius you are… I never saw that one coming. And so what if someone is "well up the asberger tree" (& lol you can't even spell it right), because there's f**k all wrong with that. It's people like you & the "original commenter" who have a much worse problem, that being an attitude one.

I don't think tastes change as I'd say they more 'evolve' ...Most people, myself included thought that Max Power cars looked awful even back then. That generation has been replaced with the 'slow & low/stance' scene, which of course isn't really considered by the majority to be a true petrolhead area of the motoring world. I'm sure another tasteless modifying fad is just around the corner...

Ok, it’s time to calm down in here please folks.

@JS.S I don’t think there was any malice meant in the original post you quoted tbh, but that’s not to say it’s right or I agree with it.
Unfortunately you will see far worse things said in here that are posted with no malice intended, and because everyone on here knows each other quite well, it’s taken in the way it’s posted - as a joke. I also know of a few people on here that have mental health issues and they haven’t taken offence to a hell of a lot of stuff posted in here in that regard.

If you’re going to enjoy your stay here you’re going to have to rise above some of the comments you’ll come across on the forum. There’s a lot of stuff that we see posted that does indeed get deleted, so if you feel strongly about a post just hit the report button and one of the mods/admin will look into it.

In the meantime, let’s just ALL cool it down please. ??

Yes, thank you for that reply, that is all fair enough & reasonable, & looking at it again this morning with a clear head, while I still do stand by much of what I expressed regarding the mental health/disability mocking, I think I have overreacted to it all quite massively & been rather petty about it. I'm more than willing to drop it, put it all behind us & forget it happened as long as the others are willing to do the same.

This forum is a place where most feel they can say what can't be said in normal society because the speech/moral police are everywhere these days.

My eldest son is mentally disabled, do I take offence to disabled jokes, no. I am very thick skinned though and take it in the manner in which it's given.

If something is said in spite then I may argue back but 99% of what you read on here is banter.

Take it as such or otherwise you'll just be arguing all day long.

If you don't like what's being said its best just to leave the thread well alone.

Welcome to cliosport by the way, we usually just talk about cars, occasionally Clio's... ?

Like I said, I think I have been a bit unreasonable & for that I apologise

Thanks for the advice, & like I said above, while I do still stand by that opinion, I think I have massively overreacted to it all & for that part I do apologise.

No problem at all mate. You’ll find some of the most helpful and knowledgeable people on this forum who can answer a whole range of questions from Clio related issues to snapped banjo strings ?.
