looks good, and I guess you can make it as hard core as you want by not choosing air con etc.

Looks like a much better package then previous cups.

My package choice would be: white colour, speedline matt black alloys, recaro's and no air con.

This is the first car thta has actually got me excited for soem time. The R27 didn't make me giddy but i thought it looked nice.

When i first saw the 197 many moons ago i wasn't a fan. drove one in red and thought it was immense. I have owned mine for a year almost.

But this cup looks flipping great. I'll definetely be making enquires inot a white one with arcon and recaros. done deal.

Tom - yeha it could well be around that weight. will be even better.

It would be cheaper in the long run to respray yours white

That actually looks pretty disappointing IMO. The lack of colour coded side strips and mirrors looks cheap, and the wheels don't look a patch on the old 172 and 182 wheels.

Will probably be a great ride though - still like the 172 and 182 looks better though.

i think they are going for the cup racer look.

I remember a thread i think yozza started many moons ago about the perfect RS.

The general opinon was white, stripped and basic spec.

What else can RenaultSport feasibly do? They have to make it appeal to the majority but also please as many as the hardcore as possible. I think they have treid very hard to please and it looks very promising to me.

white - check
basic spec - check (but option ot add comforts)
some weight savings done - check

I reckon it will look the b****cks. As Seb says, those pics look pretty much like photoshops of an idea. The actual car, in white, with matt black rims, should look sweet. Not so sure on the philosophy of it though. No AC as standard is just mean, and by the time you add it as an extra, probably 50% of the weight saved has come back? Still, kudos for listening to peoples dislikes of the 182Cup, and addressing them. We could be talking c.80kg savings, which would be good for perormance and agility. If it's cheap, then it's agreat model to have in the range, surely?

Why just stop at the air-con though, Roy?

Bit of a disapointment, agree with it looks cheap with no colour coding on the bump strips and wing mirrors. At the end of the day would rather get an R27 in white.

Also the cup suspension will be available as option on the standard 197. So at the end of the day its not going to worth getting one if you want the cup setup and the standard 197 bits'n'boos.

And yes esp u can switch off in the 197 and R27.

I'm surprised by what they say about the soft touch dashboard. Does that mean that the 197 cup is having a unique moulding for it's dash?

Not many other manufacturers are stripping their hot hatches and selling them cheaper, Renault should be applauded for continuing with the Cup project.

At the end of the day if people want a 197 as cheap as possible (and I'm sure many do) then this is the one to go for. If I had the money I would order a completely poverty spec version in an instant (no aircon, soooooo pointless in this country)

I think some people are expecting too much, Renault are never going to strip any substantial safety features out, not in this day and age, ABS is 100% locked in with major manufacturers, removing any remotely important airbags wouldn't happen, and I doubt they would even skim the windows anymore. So I can't see that weight reductions are ever going to substantial, I'm sure the original 197 was pretty much as light as they could make it with the spec it has anyway.
