Because I use the car for track days the exhaust gets very hot and is under a...
Selling my almost new rear strut brace for the winter as I am no longer using it for any trackdays.

'twas the bearing. Sorted =)
Cant believe it though. only got 3.5 track days out of a rear bearing ! - teaches my right to buy cheapo ebay stuff. Got genuine Renault on now =)
Hi, just wrecked(not worn) my rear bearing at Bylton Park Track day yesterday. Still did the second half of the day on it and then drove 125 miles home.
Should be ok, but get it sorted asap.
should add a little more detail. Constant drone humming which gets significantly louder and deeper when I turn left (the track at blyton is anti clockwise) The bearing have just been done all round and done 3 track days with them....
Having too much fun today at Blyton that I was a noob and warped at least one of my Brembo HC discs.
That's confirmed by shuddering under braking.
Anyway, what I really need to diagnose is what the constant 'humming' was that was driving me crazy on my 125mile drive home.
Is this just a...
ok, thanks very much. Hopefully try n get a gasket on before the weekend.
would fitting just be, support the cat with a jack and undo the manifold to engine nuts - wriggle the gasket over the studs and tighten back up?
can it be true.. I have no gasket.... unbelievable ........:dapprove: what muppet would have done that. Not the kind of thing I check when I buy a car though...but I shall from now on!
yea a covered the manifold in it a few months ago. I only run it for track days and when whenever I turn it on after leaving it a long while I get a bit of smoke coming from somewhere behind the engine. So I decided just to plaster it all up cos I couldn't trace the problem (and can't afford a...
hmm..crap... well... I've only had the car since march. always did have a feeling that the amount of heat coming up from behind the engine seemed a fair bit.. not sure about being 'blowy'. There are certainly no 'startling' sounds.
here is a side picture?
so what's odd with it then?
Hi everyone,
Just getting my car ready for the track on the weekend and just noticed my finger disappeared into a hole behind the right hand side of the engine, into the manifold.
The picture below shows what I mean - is this normal or am I missing something here??
Thanks
Depends how much ££ and time you want to spend really...
Assign an afternoon and properly clay your car. It will take some time to do it properly if you've never done it before.
Tape over the plastic trims and gaps of your car and get ready for a good workout....
Ideally get a buffer, some...
Could only ever recommend http://www.dent-tec.co.uk/ - Wigan based but well worth the travel.
Through my family we have had 4 dents/bumps ever needed doing and none of them have ever been finished to a standard of that you'd be totally happy with - always a bit dull, not smooth etc. - but that...
if you know someone at work who is handy with the tools then I'd say it's worthwhile taking it down. - in any case you'd have to probably drive it to a garage to get it fixed anyways!
As long as it doesn't sound like an engine noise i'd say you're okay, just take a peek under the bonnet...
Hi,
Are the vibrations rattling / knocking - especially when you accelerate ?
So did you get your drivers side upper mount, lower gearbox mount, and dog bone mounts replaced without the upper gearbox one? What makes you think it's that one? It would be quite easy to tell if it's gone, could...
thanks for the reply, but why wouldn't something like 20W-50 be better for an extreme example? Isn't that rated for -10 to +50 degrees?
Why would I need the '5w' provision as I'll never be starting my car at below 0 degrees?
I'm just thinking along the lines of the oil being a jack of all...
Hi,
I know the debate has been had several times - but I was still hoping to ask the question for my specific situation.
I only use my Clio 172 Cup on Track Days over the Summer and cover <2000 miles in it.
The engine has covered 80k, and from what I can tell it has had a hard life!
Anyway...
Depending on how much £££ you have mate I'd get it through it's MOT first and spend the money on that, and any other recommendations which come out of it.
If you have any pennies left over - then go and sort out your belts and dephaser.
Made the mistake myself. Got belts and cat back...

Discs are good mate. I run them with DS2500s and Goodridge lines - absolutely more than fine for a...
Hello,
Engine Management Light came on about a month ago with P2000 - Nox Trap Efficiency Below Threshold & P0059 - HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
Anyways, I ended up buying DevToaster's Rev for the iPhone and cleared the codes.
Since then the light hasn't come back on , but I still...

Any help would be very much appreciated!
I am trying to replace the lower gearbox mount on my 172 Cup.
I can obviously get the 'lower' bolt off no problem, but I can't get anything in to remove the securing 'top' bolt - if you get me.
ie. I can get the bolt off holding it to the chassis...
