The elbow on mine is 70mm internal diameter, it fits perfectl. I didn't have to move my ECU bracket, I just used the new brace to push the ECU back slightly, the top left hand corner sits about 10mm further back than it did originally.

'Clarke' are about the best hobby mig welders, you are looking at £250 for a decent setup for that thickness though. Like Fred says, Clarke are avaliable from Maching Mart and avoid gasless like the plague...

They have 2 bolt holes on the flatter piece, I think the 2 different types relate to 2 different hole diameters, you'd want the larger hole diameter for your 172. I 'think' its 12mm

I'm assuming you mean the little Torx head bolts? If so you could try hammering in a mildly oversized torx bit, so its a very snug fit (fkin tight) and try to undo it with a short sharp shock rather than gradual pressure. Obviously you will need a new bolt but they sound like they are knackered...
