TBH most of the 'newer' screens have very low standby power consumption - my Pioneer 43" plasma consumes 0.7w on standby..... Don't think many LCD's would get much better....
Most of the HD ready screens have to process the image to fit the res of the screen - typical LCD's 1366x768 have to process 'upscale' an SD 576i image to fit the 768 line image of the display.
the 'full' HD 1920x1080 screens have far more processing to do with an SD image - sometimes...
lol, I even strugggel to got mi spulling write sumtymes!
Seriously tho, I was making a facetious comment about the wording of your post - you clearly state 'Plasma was better for SD stuff, HD and Xbox 360....' lol and it read pretty funny.
Lets just say that you've got a decent telly, I've...
Deal with what? Your biased opinion? lol. AFAIK the only half decent LCD's at 40" available a year ago were by Samsung, Sony and Loewe - with the Loewe being silly prices and the other two around the 2K mark (unless you got your arse kicked....). As I said in my earlier post, you've fallen into...
It's really each to their own, I researched LCD/plasma for over a year before being in a position to buy one and found that LCD's just didn't cut it, although I don't play Xbox on mine for 8 hours a day:rasp: (only 3 hours;) )
btw, which plasmas were miles cheaper? I could walk out today and...
No offence mate, but you've fallen into the old 'I've got one so it must be better' trap. I've got a plasma and think it's superb, but I know there are also LCD screens out there which are now its equal in terms of PQ. To say LCD's are 'miles' better at HD is also pushing it a bit. It would be...
Personally, instead of all this media PC stuff, (which, lets be honest you've got to spend well over 1k to put a decent future proof one together), I'd get a decent dvd/hdd recorder such as the Panasonic EX75 or the Sony 860 along with an all-in-one surround sound system.
This would give the...
As far as I see it, the only advantages that LCD have over plasma are the ability to have 'full' HD resolution of 1920*1080 on smaller screen sizes (40") - which tbh can be a double edged sword - someone posted earlier that increased resolution doesn't give a better picture, which, when dealing...
blimey, it's hard enough chasing the wires in never mind the tv! I'd probably build the tv into a timber frame + plasterboard it to bring the wall forward. Watch for ventilation of the tv tho.....
If it's for the bedroom fair enough. I'd still go for the Panny. Only worry would be the 360 - be careful with the plasma if you're intending long sessions - over 2 hours - on the console - particularly in the first 300-500 hours of use.
Out of the two screens mentioned I'd go for the Panny Plasma over the Tosh LCD. You could get the 42 PX60 for around £1200 if you shop around - i've seen it for just over a grand recently too, although I can't find it now.
Sony w/x series look good. The Philips Ambilight 9831 is good but BIG money ~2.5k. It has a white backing board behind for the full surround ambilight.
You'll get a Samsung or Toshiba 46 for around 2k maybe less....
re-gassing lol
I've got a Pioneer 436XDE which is superb. However, anyone in the market for a 40-42" flat screen tv at the moment wouldn't go far wrong with a Sony (W/X2000) or a Phillips (9831d) as these are both excellent LCD tv's. These are outside the op's budget, but plasma-wise I'd...
me 'hello, I'd like to book my car in for a service please'.
dealer 'what's the engine size?'
me '2.0l'
dealer 'must be a Laguna then?'
me 'no, it's a Clio'
dealer (clearly thinking Im joking/wrong) 'are you sure?'
me 'yes, it's a 182' (knowing when I say this he'll still have no clue.....)...
