im same as you buddy,i had a luvly silver e46 bmw 330ci
harmon kardon set up,black leather, xenons ect
a fantastic car....but just not fun what so ever.
loved the 3litre straight 6 and 231hp but it never made yer gusset damp.
and i sure dont miss the 23mpg i was getting!!

i filled the clio up with £50 ish of vmax and its got me to work and back 5 days a week for 3 week.
perfect fun/value per ££.plus i pocketed cash from the p/x to top up my bank acc.

in this day and age, huge out goings and small in comings,i wanted to return to
a car like i had in the good old days of my youth, like my old 205gti's and r5gt turbo ect
mates also thought i was mad, i respected the quality of the beemer
and looking like id done alright for myself ect

but i never loved it like i do this daft little clio!!
i polish it,sit and admire it for what it is,a huge loada fun,and plot what to do to it next to make it louder/faster/handle better....just like the old days lol.

I always put the more expensive fuel in mine too. Not sure if im just waiting my money though because I haven't really used the cheaper fuel in the 172.

  F56 MINI Cooper S
always liked the MK2 Ph2 shape clio (best shape theyve done) had a 1.2 16v for my first car, and always wanted the 2.0 182 so bought one. Had to be 182 though as I love the rear exhausts, wheels etc.

well, the vmax deffo made a difference in the scoobs/evo's ect
and once mapped to run on the higher ron,you had to stick to it lol.

been quite a few tests and it deffo made a difference.
probably not as much as we think in our heads, but im sure mine accelerates a wee bit better and pops n bangs louder lol.

  182ff
almost word for word what i would of written, even had a 53 plate bmw 330ci sport facelift model once!

  Renault Clio 182
Because girls that drive Renaultsports are instantly much better than anyone else, love a RS female owner lol

  172 Cup
For the money, IMO there isnt a better hot hatch out there which would suit me the way the Cup does. Thats not just in terms of driver satisfaction but in terms of running cost aswell. Epic car for the money imo which ticks all of the right boxes :)

  CLIO 172 PH1
why do you need to ask? we all know y! I had a 97 scooby 2ltr turbo loved it for a day then when i had to fill it every day with petrol and when the insurance company relised they had my NCB wrong then insurance went from £1000 to £1800 in a day so it had to go! I thought i would never find somthing more spine tingling, sweet sounding, good looking car than the scoob then the chap who bought it announced he had a 182 cup and he has "never drivin anything more fun in his life" it put the idea in my head. As soon as he was gone i ran to the laptop pulled pistonheads up and started browsing. I had a very hard decision between a rs clio or a dc2 but eventually swung for the clio i have now a ph1 172 iceberg silver 10k rebuilt engine road going go cart. I love it!!!!! And since i have had it i have made mince meat of the old scoob even in a straight line to 70!

  107 Track Car & C4
Got mine as I HAD to get rid of my 407SW, was an amazingly lovely car to own, but had a trip to a garage every month for something or other. Only had it 8 months and then saw the 182 I've got now on a forecourt and had to buy it :).

Been the best car I've owned so far, reasonably cheap to run and amazing fun!

Just curious! i cant get enough of this litle pocket rocket, just come home from work the long way again, and have just seen off a civic type r!

  Clio RS 172 /Trafic
I bought my Phase1 172 three and a half years ago. It's without a doubt the best car I've owned. I've driven all sorts over the years and the Clio ticks all the boxes for me. It's really great fun to drive. The insurance is cheaper than my wife's Astra 1.6 automatic. I always use V Power or equivalent petrol. I've fitted Ferodo DS 2500 pads all round, Brembo HC front discs, braided brake lines, DOT 5.1 fluid , green cotton air filter element, K Tec engine mountings , Powerflex dogbone bush, Scorpion Catback stainless exhaust Toyo R1-R tyres. Had the cambelt and dephaser pulley changed 6 months ago. The car has 123,000 miles on it now and is still as good as ever. The engine doesn't use oil and is as sharp as a pin. Everything works and it's comfortable on long journeys. I've done 15 track days in it and plenty of long distance trips. I'm 54 now and the car keeps me feeling young. It's just a real blast to drive every time I get in it.
I've no intention of selling it and would recommend anyone to buy a Renaultsport Clio any day.

I didn't really know anything about Renaultsport Clio's until I was 17 and joined this site. I've always loved hot hatches but knew more about Fiesta ST's (warm hatch I later came to find), Focus ST, CTR etc.

I decided a Clio would be a good first car so got a 1.2 16V joined this site and some time later went to my first Cliosport meet. A member at the time kindly took me for a spin in his 182 and from then on I was hooked. I saved up for just over a year then bought a PH1 172, I only had it for 7 months because I had a few problems with it (cambelt cockup by a "specialist") and was distracted by going to uni etc.

I regretted selling it and then 20 months later bought my 182. I looked at the competition but there was nothing else that could touch the whole package. For me its about more than just the car as a product, its the heritage, culture (the CS meets) etc. I can't wait to take it to Le Mans, taking it to its home country where they are so rare will be awesome.

I sound like a completely nostalgic geek now, but I do genuinely love my 182. I'll be lucky to find another type of car that will make me feel like that.

After being able to drift Ford C-MAX on wet roundabouts (I mean holding the slide), lapping an Exige S and a 997 Carrera 4S on track (6 laps each but good fun) and owning a company car I could use for everyday and with my other half looking for a new car, I started considering an affordable performance car. You wouldn't believe the time I've spent choosing it checking prices, maintenance costs, want factor, fun factor and so on.
The semi finalists were (in no particular order) : Mazda MX5 MkI/II, MG ZF 160, Alfa Romeo GT, Lotus Elise Mk I, Porsche 968 CS, BMW 330d wagon, Z3 3.0, Clio Williams, Suzuki Swift Sport. And then I came across some ph1 172, realized the 182 Cup was a bit better and that they sold as much as the standard 182s which were fully loaded in comparison (and praised by evo mag). I asked for a credit, spotted a good one, went to visit it and it was so clean and had no rattles no shakes at all that we bought it straight away. It's stealth (except for people in the know), relatively cheap to run, reliable and for sheer fun it goes above a lot of more expensive machinery.

ive owned astra gte's saxo vtr a ep3 ctr and a golf gti, but none of them even came close to putting a smile on my face like my 172 does. I cant believe ive not had one before this its a pocket rocket and cheap to run!!
