Trophy Track Car

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
2 weekends back I dropped in to see Nick172Cup to have a look at the Trophy he had for sale.
a deal was made and the car was to become mine a couple of weeks later.

Late this morning a ventured back over to Nicks to finally collect the car and get it back over to my unit to start a few little jobs on it.

finally back home and thanks to my good mate Tom who set about giving the bodywork a good buftying.
Several washes with a degreaser, iron X, snow foam and then pulled inside so he could set about the car for a good claying :)

we couldn't believe the difference to the paintwork just with a decent clean.
goes to show how the rubbish weather destroys the looks of the paintwork :(

while I was tinkering with a few bits, and keeping on top of the coffee situation, Tom cracked on with getting the polisher out to try and rejuvenate the paintwork a little further and to start removing a lot if the swirly marks :)

The other clio 182 we own.
For a year now I've been trying to make this my little car for a bit if track fun, but always trying to maintain a small level of road use as it was initially the misses road car.
Now, instead of trying to cover two requirements from one car, the trophy will allow us to have a clio each for the needs we now want from them.... The black one returning to standard :)

anyhow, with the interior now empty on the Trophy, and easy to climb in/out of it, I set about removing the upper dash ready for its flocked replacement and carbon dash inserts.

And then one of the Sparco buckets bolted into place so the car can be movable again with ease.

And that's where it all finished for today, continuation tomorrow.
but not bad for 6hrs ownership by the time we called it quits to head home.
cars all tidied away and left neat ready for Sunday playtime :)

what made you decide against it?

Nope I'm over in china justnow so not advertised it other than on the two ford sites. Will take your black Clio as px :)
The range rover is in at my mates garage this week actually getting the front anti roll bar bushes done as that's really the only fault I had with it.

The insurance been a lot more and really wanted a brand new car. I will 100% own one at some point though.

Neil, I forgot you had the slight change in job locations, how are you finding it out there?
you don't want another clio surely, have you still got the blue one in the garage aswell?

Dan, I guess that's a fair enough reason mate, luckily for me even with its mods, the insurance still comes out at a smidgen under £500.
Next time I'm up around your way your welcome to test drive it if you haven't already driven one ;)

Kelv i still have my caged and bodied one, but if I sell the range rover I may be buying my old Porsche back. That would leave me with two cars that arent really daily dutie friendly, If that does happen I might have to sell the caged one :S

China or more theroads and shipyards over here are an experiance is all I can say, health and saftey isnt big over here. Im not sure on the new company either but going to give it 6 month to see howit goes, good thing is Im lucky the way the industry is justnow were getting job offers every other week.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Going to be a fantastic little car this Kelv, Im V jealous.

You really should turbo it now that it doesnt need to be Kim's daily though.

Is she going to do trackdays in hers still when its back to fairly standard? Ideal learner car :)

  Megane r26
Looks good, as said this ones got to be kept alive haha. But it just goes to show with regular maintenance an all that these ddon't seem to cope with mileage to bad.

thats handy that you have the job offers, especially if all doesn't pan out to your liking.
China must have some highs aswell tho, another chapter and experience to your working life isn't always a bad thing.

That ESCOS is an absolute peach!!!

=D

That she is indeed, absolutely stunning car :)

Thats a good buy for a track car that.

Also you have many many tidy cars.

cheers Dave, although I can't take credit for all of them.

Chip, we shall see how things pan out with this over winter.
i think it's inevitable that the engine may show a few signs soon of being tired, so we will address the options of throttle bodies or turbos when that time comes.

in ref to Kim's, after today it's now fully trimmed and running back on standard suspension already.
I'll give you a call tomorrow with a little insight and reasoning to the changes.
she was going to be doing a few of her first trackdays in spring along with Ronnie and myself to get her used to the feel of it all, but that may be changing, all to be revealed ;)

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
Spent a few hours today refitting all of the trim and standard ish suspension back on to the black car, that's now back at home and ready for the new week as a comfy daily car again.

then moved on to the Trophy.
shes now kitted out with the AST's, Pure Motorsport top mounts, Whiteline ARB and the passenger seat is bolted into place.

starting to look a bit more as she is supposed to :)

Wow. Quite frankly im amazed you managed to break through the crust that was, errrrm, protecting the paint.

IIRC there was a good two years worth of Carbon Lorraine pad dust baked on to it.

Glad to see the old girl is going to be used as intended. Hats off to you sir.

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
To be honest, other than a couple of small marks on the paint, it's genuinely not in a bad state atall for the mileage.
Tom had his paint depth gauge on the car today, and then on the black one just to compare, and the Trophy came out better.

i can't recall the readings, but i will confirm tomorrow.

and Ollie, thank you ;)

Loving the ford dealer mat for the dog :)

Lots of progress there, all sounds a bit cryptic about Kim's car, not impregnated her have you?

The mats are what Tom supplies, he works for a company that makes/designs/sells them, we re hoping to have a few more coming in a few varying Colours in the new year.

Yes, a little bit cryptic I know, but it will make sense in time ;)

The Trophy looks great! Love the dogs! I have a collie myself although you wont find mine that calm!

The pups (although now 3 yrs old) are pretty good going 90% of the time.
pretty obedient and easy to please, but obviously being Collies they do have oodles of energy, you only need to hint at time for a walk or pick up a tennis ball and the energetic side becomes very clear.
we are lucky that they have each other, and they spend a lot of time playing tug of war with various rubberized toys from pets at home.
they are actually brother and sister from the same litter, but people rarely believe us due to there colourings.
i wouldn't change them for anything.

Thats 100% down to the 'paint protection' process described below imho, sod covering a car with the sperm of a young unicorn at £400 a tub when dirt & RC6 dust does the job just as well ;)

Glad to see the car is going back to track spec though, its most happy when its scraping the door handles off the tarmac on track :race:

Will keep an eye on this thread, just to check that you're giving it the abuse that it deserves.

Sir Dave, your protection process is second none ;)

Gaz, long time no speak, hope your keeping well mate.
whats in your collection at present?

Bobby, it would be nice if its in my ownership on that day.

I already had a set of AST 1's, so I've used those for now as they seemed to do the job quite well on the black car at the ring earlier in the year.
ive contemplate changing for the AST 2's, but seems a bit daft now I have these, maybe in time :)
