Riggers' 96-Spec JDM Dc2...

Been a while, quite a lot to update

had the paintwork seen to in the summer by Bifcaids to try and match the panels -

new front brake pads, Project MUs and the same cheap grooved discs -

Done a trackday at Oulton park in November, was abit crap as it rained on n off all day just when it was about to get a dry line itd rain again, never bothered with the video camera allday...

The car at Oulton was good again but I missed afew gears on the down changes and was locking brakes up very easy... clutch fluid was black after only 4 trackdays and 18months use so replaced that and rebled it properly before the next trackday, swapping the fluid made the gear changes much smoother. The brakes, ive always hated them on this (air getting in and never really happy with the performance, cracking discs etc) only thing I hadn't replaced on the car was the rear calipers, so after Oulton I decided to swap the master cylinder and servo back to the 96spec one and as I was checking the pads for wear etc the rears had unevenly worn and the dust covers were knackard and the pistons pitted etc so got new calipers and fitted the Blue Stuffs I had ready n waiting with help from f0xy, also knackard another set of discs at Oulton warped over 1mm so they were shot, so ive gone back to blank discs, Blueprints to be exact... so all bled up and bedded in, performance is good but the pedal is long due to swaping the mastercylinder and servo back. Serviced again too.

so the next trackday, which was Snetterton 2 days ago, first time for me really enjoyed it once the track dried out

ignore the temp gauge it has a mind of its own aha (was last on track on the day that's why I'm stopped aha) -

brakes were great all day so really happy with them, don't need to touch them other than the usual rebleed inbetween every trackday.

had 2 spins in the morning as I was fighting for grip, one was at the end of Corum, wiped out all the marker posts going sideways, was dreading seeing the damage after the noise from inside how loud they were, bit annoyed but could've been worse as I was pushing on -

making the car fresh for 2017, new plugs same again, the old ones done me proud for 2years -

new tyres same again with PE2s, the old ones lasted me around 10,000 miles and 9 trackdays as n when they were needed, the best allround tyre in this size for road and wet track and even when the tracks 95% dry they are still very impressive -

20170106_143930_zpscrg5pzcr.jpg

where i had the tyres fitted they had some awesome graffiti artwork -

20170128_094506_zps4xd6whmo.jpg

also had the alignment 'checked', it hadnt been on a Hunter system for 18months i've tweaked the front toe from time to time and it read this when they strapped it on, was suprised with the track use and kerb hopping that it didn't needed a tweak aha, tried numerous settings over the years and found this setup my favourite (-2.5 front -1.5 rear camber,-0.10 toe out front 0.08 toe in rear) -

Next up Croft in March, always wanted to do Croft, after how good Snetterton was we couldn't help book another new track at the first oppurtunity!

Nice updates!
My DC5 is set up quite close to that. VTEC Direct where spot on with it.

This makes me want a DC2.

I rang them about advice on atr's, quite fancied one. Long story they struggle to get good ones. Mentioned an ep3 they have in, supposed to be very nice. Didn't get a call back though with the details 😧

Are they Nantwich way?

Close! Winsford.
Some great lanes around there

They race the ATR's so they deffo know their stuff. Andy has won hundreds of trophies, there's loads of them at the garage.

They are REALLY busy at the moment (can't fit all the cars in their unit) so give them a day or ring back
I thought ABP were decent. Vtec Direct are another level imo.

Fantastic day at Croft on Monday, was our first time there all of us wern't expecting it to be as fun as what it was with being so flat but at the end of the day we were praising it by saying its just like a flat Cadwell Park aha, definitely gong to be returning there!

Car was faultless bar having a coolant issue, burst my top radiator hose for a second time, maybe you just need to fit silicone hoses when fitting large alloy radiators on these when being hammered on track with the pressure the coolant gets upto!

Brakes were awesome again, only downside is maybe tyres i find the RSRs fall off/overheat after 4 or 5 full on laps, may go back to R888s or maybe 205 RSRs as i need a new pair now anyways, we'll see

As always it was a stuggle to string afew clear laps together, these are my quickest i managed on camera -

been a mega car for me, but now the trackdays in this have come to an end so thought i'd do a mini compilation edit of probably my favourite 3 trackdays out of the (i think) 14 i've done in this..

Highlights from Croft and Snetterton with a quick lap of Cadwell Park inbetween -

  JDM Dc2
Because Red top life BOI!
was fun whilst it lasted aha

Had this for sale last month as i had bought a new project but instead i sold that on as i knew this was too good of a car to get rid, done me proud once again at Cadwell Park on monday, only downfall was having to be trailered home as my radiator cap shat itself and i didnt have a spare aha. Engines still pulling amazing, brakes were ace, thats 4 trackdays on the same discs and pads all round now, pads are low now tbf but im chuft.

Made a little Highlights edit, some lairy moments from myself and one by my mate in his Primera aha -

Some well overdue trackday pics

Got some new tyres on their way to replace the 'great but not so much when hot' federal RSRs, need to go over the brakes and give it a service before the next which is at Oulton in November! Also got a Tegiwa 1.3bar rad cap hopefully with that and a vented header tank now i wont have anymore pressure/coolant issues!

What's the underneath like with regards to rust? Holding out well?
Think so, rear arches are getting abit scabby but nothing major!

New Tegiwa X-Cool radiator after finding the Nissens one split where the fins met the base from i'm guessing the pressure from just before the radiator cap shat itself at cadwell -

made some extended rad brackets with the rad being 70mm deep at the top and bottom (55mm where the fins are) -

the only reason i got rid of my old ally rad was because the big radiator hoses were swelling with the pressure, so this time i got some silicone hoses, a cheap ebay kit to be exact that needed some attention as 3 of the 6 hoses didn't fit, some joiners and a 90degree bend sorted them but you can see the tiny 90degree hose still on the back of the heater matrix ill chance that that wont split, got lots of spares if it does fingers crossed it wont -

Oulton Park next saturday!

  JDM Dc2
So oulton park, weather was perfect but it was one of the worst trackdays i've done, track was very busy mainly due to there being 12 or 13 red flags, i was one of them and a couple of mates were 3 of them haha. The worst thing about red flags is the ques on track as everyone just wants to be out there then you have alot of inexperienced or crap drivers who don't check their mirrors enough or let you past, then you have the guys who have radicals n the like who creep up on you out of nowhere with their far superior lap timing then they can be a dick when you let them past like the one in the video after me watch him (can see me looking in the mirror) close in on me for 30seconds or so prior to him nearly clipping me then deciding to run the pitwall for no reason whatsoever. Along with the busy track it seems i've had a CV joint failure which hindered my afternoon after trying to inspect anything that had failed or come loose, after watching the video back it's definetley driveshaft related so i've ordered a new pair.

Said video, the only lap i got on film all day, literally didn't get 2 clear laps together all day even before i started filming, not my quickest but still a 2.04 going off the video timing, a clip of me outbraking myself and pushing to hard into Island bend and the drivehshaft failure god damn -

Found the EBC bluestuffs incosnistent and they've worn around half way down already in 100 track miles and half of them were me cruising around making some clear track lol. Tyres were great but the front have also seemed to wear abit too.

Your thread makes me miss my DC2's sooooooo bad!!!

Get another man, they're bloody amazing allround cars aren't they, they're just all expensive now!

So, fitted new shafts from Tegiwa all seems good again!

Got new brake pads instead of the Bluestuffs will fit them nearer the next trackday!

When swapping the shafts i noticed fluid EVERYWHERE all underneath the offside of the car, wasnt gearbox oil, i presumed it was oil from out of my catch tank but it hardly breathes anything anyways just vapour so it couldnt have been that, then noticed this... motherfocker! swapped and all cleaned up now -

20180108_112714 by jamie rigby, on Flickr

When removing the rear seats for the Oulton trackday in november i noticed quite alot of water in the boot and abit under the rear seats, turns out when i attended to the rear lights seals and tracing other water leaks from the bootlid when i removed the bootlid and refitted it i split the seal/shroud that the wires go through into the bootlid so water has been getting into the bootlid and coming out of the drain holes into the boot and waters been getting in the rear quater and running down the wheel arch and sitting in the corner of the boot behind the rear door cards, removed the door card and it didnt take much for this to happen -

20171222_142227 by jamie rigby, on Flickr

What happenes when you can't see water leaking into your car for over 3 years (since i done the rear light seals etc) and the boot floor designs sh!t/not flat so the water would've been sat in that crease/recess for ages until it evaporated, so went to f0xys, chopped it right back to the good metal -

20180106_100403 by jamie rigby, on Flickr

made a template out of carboard, traced onto some 1.5mm, one nice flat piece how the boot floor should've been (not that it should leak water in but still) and welded in and anti-rust primered -

20180107_115604 by jamie rigby, on Flickr

whole rear end undersealed, otherside's completely solid and all underneath the car is, checked everywhere and this only happened like i say because i couldn't see the water leaking it, if it was stripped with no door cards i wouldv'e spotted it straight away god damn haha

20180112_145114 by jamie rigby, on Flickr

Cars on 180k now, plenty more left in it!

I made an oversteer/drift compilation on Instagram of my top 9 drifts of 2017 (bar the donington ones but i had to throw them in there aha), thought'd i'd stick it on youtube so i could put it on my threads! -

Next trackday booked for Croft in April

flew through the MOT last month!

Headed to Croft on friday for my second time there, bloody awesome track, a hell of alot slippier than i was expecting in the wet with how rough the surface is! Car was faultless apart from the radiator high pressure cap wasn't releasing luckily i had a spare, and in the afternoon once it dried out the car was dropping out of vtec through the flat out 100-110mph clark esses chicane which was annoying, could be down to oil starvation but i never over do hammering it only 4 or 5 laps per session and always do one full warm up and one full cool down lap and oil is always on checked and on max before every session, time for a service so i'm going to get some thicker stuff as i'll be doing a summer trackday at Cadwell in a couple of months! Both sets of tyres were ace! Here's a 5min edit of a couple of decent laps and a couple of slides from the morning on my michelin PE2s, the one where i clipped the curb and sent the car into a reverse entry was the first session on the R888r's the curbs were still abit damp haha -

few pics, all the mud over the bonnet is from a starlet flying off and sending mud all over the track and my car aha
