Riggers' 96-Spec JDM Dc2...

  JDM Dc2
Car performed awesome once again yesturday at Oulton park besides a couple of niggly things I'd like to address like upgrading the master cylinder and set the front to toe out as I was suffering from abit of understeer at times

Was the most stressful trackday I've done it was like a novice day aha lack of blue flags, loads of reds, as soon as I went out a couple of times it rained straight away which was a pain

Only had 3-4 quick dry sessions this one being my quickest/last of the day, enjoy -

  JDM Dc2
Picked up a uk/98spec servo and mastercylinder last week here it is next to the 96spec one -

20150306_114932_zpsopb77ifc.jpg

Much larger and fitted -

20150306_141839_zpsnujkmgcm.jpg

was very tight to fit even with removing the brace and releasing the fuel filter, ended up splitting the clutch reservoir hose squeezing it past!

Needs re bleeding again as I ran out of fluid but I went around the car once so it's safe to drive again for now still very spongey atm tho

couple of random pics -

20150308_135255_zps7kp248re.jpg

20150308_135316_zpsbtgwgloa.jpg

also got some BWR adjustable rear toe arms and a genuine ek9 throttle cable to fit this week

Next trackday booked for Sunday 19th April at Anglesey coastal!

  JDM Dc2
So, toe arm comparison, ~4mm longer even at the tightest point -

20150318_144618_zps5pbdbugv.jpg

fitted, going to get that plate welded on so theres no chance of that moving again on the slots -

20150318_150514_zpspfdmlwsi.jpg

ek9 cable, there's 2 part numbers the one I gotten from tegiwa is too short... -

20150316_145728_zpsmdbhqrlw.jpg

so I've moved it over so the ek9 bracket is just on one hole on the intake manifold so it's fitted for now, got another cable on the way over from japan to compare hopefully it'll be the right one

It was understeery at oulton the other week so I done some research and roll centre adjusters / extended ball joins are a must on lowered tegs so I ordered some and fitted them yesturday, had to remove the hub made the job easier, fitted -

20150325_170244_zpswozl6jf0.jpg

I planned on raising the car 5mm so to counteract the 25mm extended ball joints I raised the front 22mm and 5mm on the rear and it's spot on now

Taxd and mot'd for another 12 months, random pic after the mot -

20150321_105346_zpsisna63j7.jpg

also fitted a sunstrip as it's needed when doing trackdays at the start and end of the year with the sun low aha -

20150319_145419_zpsapnn82iu.jpg

  JDM Dc2
Removed the dust guards on the front discs to help with brake cooling whilst doing that I noticed fluid had been leaking past the piston seal on one of the new refurbed calipers -

20150401_111529_zpsp43mlbru.jpg

So Euro car parts swapped that for me as they're in 12 month warrenty, all bled up again with the new Ate typ200 fluid yet to test them!

To help even more with brake cooling I got rid of this lot -

20150402_183121_zps8vssxpur.jpg

20150402_175342_zpsz2hyr26d.jpg

should help with the temps in 2 weeks at Anglesey!

Still needs aligning after playing with the height dropping the front down abit

Thought I'd do an upto date spec with nearly owning this 2 years, doing 4 trackdays and trying to stay as mature as possible without getting carried away with it after all my previous cars have been stripped and caged bla bla

Had it aligned last week, with it being raised a tad I've lost a little camber on the front which im not fussed about as I've had it set to toe out now so less camber will reduce tyre wear on the insides with it toeing out -

20150410_233550_zpsh4a6pkqt.jpg

drives better than ever now!! Also had them square plate washers tacked on on the rear toe arms so no chance of them sliding again!

Also received the second ek9 cable and and it's much better so fitted that and sent the other back!

Noticed my radiators and little worse for wear definatley worsened since fitting it last year so thought this time it's best to get an ally rad and look after the engine abit better when it comes to trackdays, went for a tegiwa rad -

20150414_145559_zpshf9m4er2.jpg

not the best fitting in the world but with a little tweaking it's in...

Quick engine bay pic before the rad and cable -

20150414_164059_zpseg5ucuaw.jpg

all set for anglesey coastal trackday on sunday :D

  JDM Dc2
So, anglesey trackday was yesturday on the coastal circuit so missing out on the two long straights and tight hairpin, it looked exactly like this it was perfect trackday weather sun out all day and cool breeze -

image_update_a2bebe2900550fcc_1378707940_9j-4aaqsk_zpsjvm6zzlm.jpg

On the road for 5.10am only seen about 10 cars on the road on the 107 miles there aha

20150419_051737_zps0v3sxyoj.jpg

Struggled getting to grips with the track at first I kept going too quick into the corners as it's quite a technical slow flowing track compared to oulton park

First problem i had with the car was the bolt fell out the rear engine mount, managed to pinch one from a guy in the paddock then got it in after trying this position aha -

FB_IMG_1429555038511_zpsgyemectl.jpg

so got that sorted easy fix at first thought I thought it mightve split or a driveshaft failure luckily not aha, so then continued the day altering tyre pressures etc then after dinner I lost gears braking into the 30mph left hander which was worrying... After re bleeding the clutch it sounds like the pressure plates failed on the clutch as it selects gears fine when the engines off and when the cars cooled it goes in gear just about.. so afew new parts are on order

Few pics

FB_IMG_1429555044886_zpsslygfxnw.jpg

FB_IMG_1429555053737_zpsjdkga14z.jpg

FB_IMG_1429555060211_zps8d9cb8qv.jpg

so engine still pulls like a train, due a service now and brakes were better than last time out on track but mainly because there's little braking there at Anglesey, here's the only vid I got the session after dinner/one before the clutch plate gave in, roll on new parts arriving. .. enjoy! -

  JDM Dc2
Loves to rev indeed!

So... old clutch -

20150421_165952_zpsod5gv7ms.jpg

20150421_165945_zps6nchgga8.jpg

I am glad I didn't order an exedy oem clutch haha

Found out I also already had an exedy lightened flywheel too, so removed holding it like so -

20150422_170528_zpsxwmlllfb.jpg

new 'parts' -

20150423_164520_zpsoykq0e3v.jpg

Genuine 98spec clutch kit
Rpc 3.6kg flywheel
New flywheel bolts
New diff seals
Genuine oil

All swapped with no issues apart from clipping the speedo sensor when lifting the box back on so I've been and got another and all is good again, bled up with some typ200 fluid totally cleaned and regreased all the pivot points on the clutch arm and it feels nice and light, lighter than the old clutch feel!

Also whilst I was at the breakers I gotten am 02 sensor to try to see if that's why it's 7-8bhp down since swapping manifolds as I didn't swap the sensors and now the old japspeeds long gone doh

also gotten another top rad hose to swap and rebleed the system as I think I have an airlock somewhere doesn't help these don't have bleeding screws!

Few more pics from anglesey

Had a problem with the top rad hose bulging at Anglesey so I changed the hose and the stat for a rather expensive mishimoto 60degree item -

20150505_175524_zps1zbe5bat.jpg

so the bulgeness has gone but now because of the massive radiator and such a low temp stat when driving it literally mustn't get much hotter than low 60s as it barely moves off minimum which makes me think hmm is that actually ok or maybe it's just overkill... with the old thermostat and oem knackard radiator it never overheated but dash temp gauges are always abit give or take... so I've now got a blueprint oem 78 degree stat to swap then it'll be getting left i think, if I still had the oem radiator I would've kept the low temp stat in!

Spotted the deal online and snapped a set of these up instantly -

20150512_144114_zpsfv3b4xuc.jpg

Good session from oulton in february I forgotten to post, mustve passed 30 cars aha -

  JDM Dc2
Changed the track rods the other week, the nearside was abit of a pain with access issues, they were way past their expiry date I think -

20150613_154236_zpsd8gzookd.jpg

Bought some pro series skunk2 camber arms and a new cambelt from Tegiwa -

20150623_131700_zpsg3furv5k.jpg

new vs old -

20150624_155316_zpspi43nguq.jpg

Fitted and camber maxed out at I think around -3 degrees, will see when I get it aligned next!

20150701_181147_zpsrdkc0xrm.jpg

next up was new Uprated drop Links -

20150701_170855_zpsriaefcnr.jpg

one of the old ones was just spinning so had to attack it with my manual grinder, hand was battered after half an hour of sawing away again with no access to get a saw in -

20150701_174828_zpsipbm182q.jpg

new fitted -

20150701_181159_zps9gv6zugg.jpg

so needs aligning again and I need to get round to doing the cambelt, also got a waterpump to do at the sametime!

Next Trackday booked for Donnington in October, never done donny before its going to be a quick one!

  JDM Dc2
Before taking it to get aligned I thought I'd polybush the lower control arms, went for Superpro bushes. Burnt the rubber and cut out the races, then after some advice I softened up the bush in boiling water and made my own little press with a bolt and washers and wallah 4 bushes done -

20150716_161418_zpst56m80la.jpg

I've also ordered the others, the larger rear bush on the other part of the arm, yet to fit them yet -

20150729_164235_zpssjkehlvc.jpg

that hex tool in the picture is the crank lock tool as I had to order as a buzz gun wouldn't budge the crank bolt to do the cambelt nor would a breaker bar with a mate holding the engine in gear on the brakes...

So i changed the cambelt and waterpump last night, easy job once you've got your head around the backwards turning engine when tensioning the tensioner! The old belt looked long overdue so glad that's done with! -

20150731_173648_zpsmxnhcxzs.jpg

20150731_205117_zps6paaoygc.jpg

picked up some 205 R888s last weekend, Compared to 195s -

20150725_095801_zpsqkm72r3b.jpg

going to get them fitted when I get it aligned in a week or two once I've fitted them polybushes!

Along with Donnington in October, ive booked oulton park for November along with 8 mates, should be ace!

  JDM Dc2
The final front polybushes fitted -

20150804_171634_zpscam1lb5e.jpg

every suspension component has now been replaced and uprated on the front now! Aligned again, gone for less toe in on the rear and it's noticeable! -

20150805_155752_zpsbkqpwx8p.jpg

205 R888s fitted to the stock wheels (6j et45) as they'd scrub if i fitted them to my trackwheels (6.5j et38/40), painted satin black too as they needed a freshen up anyways -

20150805_170355_zpsx2njbors.jpg

Will be taking both sets of wheels to donnington I think compare the 195s on the wider wheels and these, if these are better ill be removing the front spacers (can't do that unless there's no going back as i had to chop the studs down to fit the 17mm spacers so I've ordered some new genuine studs to have ready just incase) and swapping the tyres!

Ordered a small washer bottle, Morris minor one to be specific aha, more on that when it arrives

  JDM Dc2
New washer bottle vs original -

20150815_120847_zpsdhswpqdl.jpg

Fitted onto the bulkhead -

20150815_142031_zpsp8lxezph.jpg

fits quite there and now both front arches behind the bumper and totally clear now for brake cooling!

Removed the rear ARB and regreased all the polybushes as the droplinks are fitted with energy polybushes which were done by the previous owner and they were squeaky and the car had a loud judder like a dry sticking bush sound on tight corners on track so thought I best attend to it... refitted and spaced the drop Links off the LCAs as before the droplinks were leaning and had pressure/load on the bush, not now as you can see -

20150826_154120_zpsd6w1ijsy.jpg

Had it aligned again just to put the toe back on on the rear as it was a little too lairy with it pretty much parralell

Re - fitted the OEM spoiler and got some new badges -

Just had a brief read through this... Properly jealous!

Looks a million times better with the OEM spoiler on too:up:

I keep looking a DC5s... Kind of a affordable dream car for me.

  JDM Dc2
Cheers guys!

Had an oil leak on the crankcase breather, was going everywhere so decided not to put it off any longer and sort it, turned out to be the O-Ring where it slots into the block so nipped to B&Q and got an assortment of them and fitted the best one -

20150906_154310_zpskznahj61.jpg

Decided to change/uprate the brakes again from the ds2500s with Donnington being a heavy braking circuit and oulton only 3 weeks after so I've gone for Carbon lorraine RC5+s, compared to the ferrodos not quite as much pad surface area -

20151006_142509_zps25xxcbzf.jpg

To go with them ive decided for the first time to try grooved discs so they keep the pad permanently clean after being advised to by numerous racers! -

20151023_154029_zpsrhiqtkjl.jpg

only done 50 or so miles on them so not really pushed them properly yet ill save that till Monday at Donnington :)

  JDM Dc2
So, Donnington Park on Monday was ace, the day was overbooked by a good 10-15 cars but the track is epic so fast and flowing with an average lap speed of ~90mph!

The car was awesome once again, the brakes don't feel any different to the DS2500s and blank discs which is a slight disappointment but at least there's no judder (yet, I say yet cos a couple of mates had issues but still running blank discs) hopefully mine will still be good with no judder in two weeks time at Oulton Park!

Had a slide off the track twice, the second time I knocked the front toe out slightly just before the end of the day so my alignment needs tweaking before oulton, as I was adjusting it to do for temporary I noticed Cv grease everywhere, split the inner boot on the O/S shaft so I've swapped the shaft and hopefully having the boot replaced saturday!

Here's a 5min video from Monday, was alot of queing and with their being no blue flags run there you had to be patient before passing at times, pretty sure I only managed a hand full of clear laps all day and unfortunately none on film but these are the next best, the best Laps on camera, enjoy -

  JDM Dc2
Wasn't fast that, mustve just been testing!

CV boot changed, brakes rebled (still not amazing), alignment on Tuesday, roll on Oulton on Saturday!

Id really like one of these but they are still and always have fetched good money. Mind you I wouldn't lose anything when I sold it

  JDM Dc2
So, Oulton Park last saturday, nothing to report really other than when having my alignment done the previous week I noticed both rear bleed nipples were passing ever so slightly so I nipped them up as much as I dared, and now i've picked up some new genuines (exactly like I had to do with the fronts earlier on in the year after changing all the nipples to ones off ebay form a 'brake specialists), hopefully they'll be fine once swapped and bled up hoping I don't have to change the calipers like i did with the fronts!

The trackday itself was a good laugh with 9 of us on track, was dry for an hour in the morning then damp around dinner then treturos rain all afternoon, car felt quite understeery tho which I was suprised about! Two of the r888s are on the wear markers and two pretty much bald so think I'm going to try Federal RSRs next as I've yet to try a set ( the previous 205 R888s which I got in the summer I sold them on), in the wet it still felt great on the Michelin PE2s! I never switched my video camera on all day with already having really good dry and wet sessions on video from the previous 2 Oulton trackdays!

Just gave it a service, noticed I never mentioned this when I last serviced it after anglesey in April, i went from Millers CFS 10w40 to fuchs 5w40, just for helping the engine run ever so slightly smoother when first started up especially in the winter, so this time I've stuck with it again -

20151120_103624_zpsqzx3ohbh.jpg

  JDM Dc2
Been a while... Anglesey prep and update, but first a couple of pics after a clean, still scrubs up alright in the pictures considering its on 175k miles aha -

20160513_184003_zpsikqg84w8.jpg

20160513_183953_zpsgjhoxrf6.jpg

So... New Rubber, 195 50 RSRs -

20160413_133657_zpsl9sybqmb.jpg

20160413_133703_zpsuvqowfvg.jpg

Spare Rear pads for when the time comes to change, Blue Stuffs being 47quid cheaper than my current DS2500 rears so worth a try, so small these like a Bourbon Biscuit! -

20160429_184926_zps2ecwfj4t.jpg

random engine shot as I was checking over afew things when packing the car, could do with painting the rocker cover at some point as its gradually flaking off more and more every trackday aha -

20160425_132858_zpszrsrh8mt.jpg

So the Trackday itself... was bloody soaking first thing as it didn't stop raining till around half 10, the back straight was abit scary at 110mph with lots of standing water it felt like the car was floating aha, gripped awesome as usual the Michelin PE2s never disappoint even when the track dried out around half 11ish they were still awesome with a 95% dry track! the only pic I had from the day -

FB_IMG_1462304009576_zpsxtuojvda.jpg

After a couple of Dry sessions my Brakes were getting slowly worse/spongey until the pedal went to the floor at 120mph I thought enough enough enough I need to come in and re-bleed it up, turned out this was the case -

20160505_172220_zpszwf5cdfb.jpg

...awesome, Carbon Lorraine RC5+s not even half way worn the compound had literally just fell off and trapped in the caliper, luckily I had my old spare DS2500s with me so I threw them in and rebled up it felt the best it had felt all day, the turn in felt mega in most of the corners really impressed with the RSRs!

Here's afew quick full on laps getting the hammer down, enjoy -
Next up Cadwell in July

Had a misfire just before the Cadwell trackday, this was the problem, the Rotor arm screw had wound itself out, that's the screw you can see on the left wedged in the dust cover aha -

Them swapped it was good to go..

I've only done Cadwell once before 5years ago so was good to be back, car was awesome once again apart from I managed to crack my Discs, dunno how as Cadwell isn't harsh on the brakes and I wasn't braking as late as I dared at any point really not compared to Oulton Park anyways! Time to invest in some proper Project MU discs I think!

20160709_145839_zpsaapnu0sc.jpg

Heres a couple of clear laps chasing a BMW race car -

  JDM Dc2
So after doing loads of thinking of how I'm going to be able to get a duct/shroud to fit my bumper with not wanting a big duct on the outside of the bumper as they look gash and too 'in yer face', I measured the inside of the bumper and looked on ebay and every motorsport site at all the ducts available and literally nothing would suit as the chassis' obstructs about 30% of the space where the ducts needs to go...

So i got a pair of Deep Gutter outlets from work and set about making them fit with a hacksaw and a blowtorch.. about an hour later I ended up with these, you can see where I've bent the inside of it out to get around the chassis, tie wrapped at the top out of sight and siliconed around the edges and on the tabs I made on the corners -

20160717_163448_zpsu054m1j3.jpg

20160717_163508_zpsxjlh1gll.jpg

20160717_165438_zpslqa5vfqi.jpg

So with the shape of the bumper there's ~200mm of air being forced in/through! Happy days nice and subtle and not "hey look at my ducts" like the ones that are fixed to the outside of the bumper

Then I done some eyeing up with some pipe lagging to see the most efficient route to the back of the disc where the biggest area of the centre of the disc is available, then ordered 2m of 51mm pipe from JJC. Whilst I was waiting for that to arrive I made up some reducers to get from 63mm to 50mm!

So all piped up, well away from the driveshaft and wheels and as close to the disc as is possible on full lock -
