Help Me, I cant mod......

Insurance company is Norwich union...However, ive recently had a clifforc concept 500 fitted too my car.

They are telling me that even tho it cost me 570 odd quid, they will give me a tener for it.

Then they tell me i cant get tints, or alloys, because it will add 15%-20% on my insurance. As im 17 my stepdad says i cant f**k about, and i have to get everything added to insurance. I want tints, alloys, spoiler etc...But what can i do? There has to be something, a way around this....PLEASE HELP! IM GOING TO CRY!

Mate remember the risk factor is not the car, its you! They dont care about alarms.

Sorry mate i had mine at 17 and you wont be allowed mods from anyone, anywhere. So youll have to do it illegally im afraid if you want anything! Wait till your 18, join Liverpool Victoria and its unlimited mods all the way :)

-Rob

So your saying, at 17 i have to leave the car, but when i get too 18, i just change my insurance company from Norwich to Liverpool ...and i can do all the modding i want, for no extra cost?

What abouts tints tho....Thats bullsh*t....

im part of the wait-a-year club...........i waited for my free insurance to run out then modded! its a pain to wait.....but makes it all the more worth it when the time comes!!!!!!! Rob

Yes i am saying that.

You already have tints as standard. Why get more, are you a celebredee?

I know plenty of 17 year olds who wouldnt mind a brand new clio as their first car..ever heard of being grateful with what youve got? ;)

Just get saving for next year, then your car might be as good as mine lol!

-Rob

Going to sound like a young Juvenile......

But.....What do i do? Just wait a year then change to L&V and thats it..Then i can mod for free.....Or do renault give me free insurance or what...?

Jai

You have to be 18 to go on the free insurance, i asked renault when i bought the car, they tried to get me on but couldnt.

um if u start modding a car, but its on your dads insurance and you are a named driver your asking for trouble, because seeing as you are a named driver, the insurance is for your father and im taking its just you that uses the car??? cos if it is and u fone the insurance and tell em oh my dad is gonna do this, this and the other then they might think hold up, this middle/late aged man is modding his car, thats funny he doesnt seem the type.

then unless u can proove it was indead your dad that wanted it modded u will be in a hole barrle of sh*t, as the main insured person is supposed to be the main driver, so in a way every 1 that has a car on there parents name but they are the main driver are commiting fraud.

yea, hes got his own business wiv several vans and cars insured wiv em so he does up hold good relation wiv them, i can only hope!

couldnt have put it better even if i had tried mate!

main thing that would happen would be if you were fully comp the insurer would have to deal with any third party claim as RTA insurers but for your own damage would tell you to f**k off...

yeah I was just thinking where do these youngsters ;)get these brand new motors from! When I was a lad me and my mates all drove around in 1.0 Fiestas and Metros, even the ones whose parents had a few quid tucked away. And back then insurance wasnt that expensive for young drivers either.

The only mods I had were an On a Mission sticker and a 50 year old PA speaker cabinet that I hooked up to the stereo. And I was bloody pleased with it as well...

Best bet is surely to buy a complete and utter sh*tter, group 1 or 2, worth less than a grand, and use that as your main car for at least a year and this is the crucial bit - INSURE IT IN YOUR OWN NAME THIRD PARTY ONLY, GARAGED AT YOUR PARENTS ADDRESS (which is probably still yours as well?) Forget any modding ideas, youve still got to crash the thing a couple of times before youre twenty! :D

Build up your own NCB otherwise youll get into your twenties and find you still cant get any insurance on a decent motor because of not having had your own policy running.

Nick u are begining to sound middle aged ! Be carefull its a slippery slope to a zimmer frame. Mind u, i bet u try and get that fitted with a turbo or throttle boidies and go faster stripes !! lol

lol, my first car when i was 17 was a rover 600 2 litre, and i survived that ebast then for my 18th just gone this march i was blessed wiv the 1.6 clio

im not allowed to mod, but i have

even when i was 17, my 1st car was a escort pop plus, that lasted 6 weeks and i replaced it with a 200+bhp uno turbo (i know, that didnt last very long.................... bye bye engine, you will be sadly missed) all mods were declared and the insurance f.c. was only £1700

now i have taken the sensible route of 1.2 16v clio, 1yrs free insurance, to add to my 3yrs before hand, makes insurance a little easier in a year time (plus i have a job again, money was tight when i bought the clio)

at then end of the day, it is not the car they are insuring against, its you

at the age of 17, you are statistically a major liability, hence the higher premiums

Easy way, get a different insurer...

Liverpool Victoria (whom we all know and love) quoted me £835 FC for my RT, with KTEC dec-cat & full SS system, suspension and wheels... Id just turned 19. Failing that pay more and go with a company that will let you modify, just leave the engine well alone.

Good luck... Insurance companies are part of Hell you know...

BTW... told them I had a CAT1, they said they werent bothered!

HEY

goto CIS, straight to CIS, they are happy to see my dad mod mine;) with me as a named driver at no extra costs whatsoever as long as its not increasing the engine power and its all declared.

As for the "buy a sh*tter and wait a few years" approach, i aint trying to be harsh but thats a lot easier said than done when you have a sh*t hot 16v and a big fat fast nissan!!!!!!! Its hard being young in small cars and turning up to meets where you guys are sat in willys, valvers and 172s!!!!!!

were only trying to be you guys!!!!!!

Have to agree with what Nick said, all this using your dad sh*t is good on paper but in the long term what you need is your NCB, ideally you want to get 4 NCB as quick as you can, then you can protect it. It cost me almost three grand to insure the clio fully comp when i was 17 but it will be worth it as when im 21 ill be able to get a powerful car which wont cost the earth to insure.

-Rob

Yeah i know using your dads policy aint perfect mate but im a stoodent which means i aint got three grand lying around, or the 1500 they want to rob me of for a poxy little 1.4, so i think i will wait till im 21 before i let them know who really drives the car, as it nicely saves me over a grand:D

Im a student and theres not much that can be done really. If you want a nice car you have to pay to insure it... Mines not bad because its a J plate, so is worth practically nothing, but with wheels etc, she aint too bad looking.

I was insured with my dad for my first year and I wouldnt have changed for a while, but Direct line (whom I now hate) put up the price when Id actually been driving a whole year extra so it should have been cheaper! Asked them for a quote for me... "sorry we dont insure modified cars".... Arse you dont, Im insured with you right now, just under another name... W*nkers!

Enter Liverpool Victoria... Told them all the mods and they gave me a decent quote (only about another £200 over DL, for me Fully comp compared to 3rd party at DL)

LOL yeah a Clio and a 200 SX so sh*t hot theyre in and out of the garage every 5 minutes! Running cars like these costs big money, in comparison to the maintenance/running costs of them, the insurance is sod all! There has to be something good about getting old doesnt there (LOL Im not even 30 yet)?

Anyway, seriously, I drove about for years in real sh*tters until I had enough money to buy a decent proper car, an RT, and that wasnt till I was about 22 I think. Before that I had a Fiesta 1.0 Popular and a Metro Studio 2. I couldnt go fast in either of them, so instead I just drove fast round every corner with tyres squealing, and jumped hump-back bridges, railway crossings etc, burning down unlit tractor paths through fields, practising handbrake turns and J-turns on football pitches - there are all sorts of wicked things you can do in a slow old sh*tter that you wouldnt even think of doing in a decent motor. So in a way it gets it all out of your system so that by the time you have a decent motor, you no longer want to do wheelspins at every single junction or handbrake into your front drive! I swear out of all the cars Ive ever owned & driven, that Fiesta was the most fun I ever had.

  Mr2 Roadster

I used to have an R5 which I modded, 2 of my mates had loads of mods on Uno turbos, pushing out serious power, but we never told our insurance companies as they would have never been able to see head work or cams... Thing is none of us wanted "kev" mods, we wanted to enhance the driving, not the looks... As they say "you cant polish a turd". Wait until you can afford a car that comes with some sort of kit as standard, theres nothing big about trying to be something youre not and that applies to everything in life not just cars. (0% of us on here started in sh!te boxs and as Nick said , we all enjoyed it. Theres no point in modding crap cars as you lose out at resale and no one wants a 1.0L car with tints and a "phat" exhaust and carbon effect dash , it just looks thrashed!!!

Now get yourselfs Cheap Standard cars and have some fun whilst building up your insurance.

Hope you guys see what Im trying to say, just my advice to you!
