Dusted Off & Driven

Decided to get the car out, give it a dust off and fire it down a pile load of B roads and I totally forgot how well it handles.

The 197 handles well with a full suspension rebuild and all items replaced but the trophy is just another level.

So while it was out spotted a small logging track and thought I could get a couple of pictures of the car.

It would handle better if you removed the wind defectors.

Reason for them is drive with the window open all the time and they are perfect for when it raining. Can still have the windows down an inch or so and hot have any water get in.

Awesome but that exhaust would have to be sorted ;)

The exhaust is a pain, I just took the standard one off and put the yozza back on and its a pain in the hole when your are using jacks and Axel stands on your own but its on the cards.

replaced the tyres (uniroyal wobblesports 3)

To be honest they are very very good in the wet and for a car that sits in a garage for 11months a year im not going to spend mega money on tyres to have them crack and perish.

Bit Marmite, love or hate them.

I`m not sure what they did to you though?
The internet reviews persuaded me to buy, i couldn't wait to wear them out,
I felt they removed one of the best features of the 182, road feedback.
Could feel them tucking under when cornering on the front and back.

You didn`t have to wait long for that then.

I`ve only ever used the XL`s, although the car wobbled when you slammed the doors, I wouldn`t say they lacked feedback.

At least they never rolled onto the side walls like the PS3`s I had.

I`m currently using Avon ZV7`s, ( also wobble when you slam the doors ) which are wearing very well doing 400 motorway miles a week, and are far from the

worst tyre out there, but somehow I don`t have the same confidence in them as the RS3`s.

I think I may have to get an old cheap dirty diesel for the commute, as I`m putting too many miles on the Clio.

The RS Turbo looks an absolute beauty, 90-spec in red, the best! Had two myself...….. and a mercury grey 90-spec..... oh and a H reg Fiesta RS Turbo.... oh and a Series 1. Etc! I think it's safe to say i'm a 'Ford boy' just a crying shame the people these cars were aimed at are now totally priced out of the market, there's no way I could or would pay 10 grand for a Mk4 Escort! Yet just shy of 10 years ago I bought my second red 90-spec, totally standard, 55k, stunning - paid just under 4 grand LOL!

RS Turbo does look lovely. Needs ambers though...

I never even saw your Merc Grey S2 Steve ? You did have some beauties over the years though!

Thanks Jon! Yeah the grey one I didn't have long, for all the ones I had that were superb, that ONE wasn't so good...… it's when the prices were at the start of the rise, so 3 grand or just under on hindsight now should have said it all lol so got shot instead of getting too deep with it!
