Clio 4 RS VS Fiesta ST EcoBoost

  TTRS & V50
That's just amazing. What a change, it looks sooooooo different.

LOL

Ok, I get the point your die hard Renault..

In my opinion it's a world ahead, however this isn't gospel, it's my opinion.

Those alloys ? If someone put those on a 200 there would the out-cry, that rear diffuser, silver ? Really ? The 5 doors, oh the 5 doors..

To note the 197/200 Cup spoiler is s**t too.

Did some dyno testing on the 1.6 engine they were looking at putting (but never did) in the previous model Fiesta during my placement year at Uni. That engine produced 198BHP on a proper engine dyno....... Cant quite understand why they turned the wick down....

Because they didn't want to compete with the hot-hatch market but the warm-hatch. This time round they are competing with the hot-hatch market and have still toned the engine down much to the delight of tuners/mappers across the country.

Whilst I prefer the ST's looks externally, I'm not keen on the Ford's interior at all.

To my eyes the centre console just looks like a cluttered mess.

I hate the look of the ST. the Clio RS is modern and the way forward in my opinion. the flappy paddles is what you would get in a ferrari or a lambo, why not enjoy them on a smaller more realistic car.

Yeah that color is gash and the 3 door one looks so much better and bla bla 5 door whoopee doo. The Clio is the ONLY car of it's breed to win the Euro car of the year Twice, Mk2 and Mk3 won it. There winning for a reason. buy your ST and when Renault face lift the 4 you will all want one just like the MK3. everyone hated the looks of them now there amazing to look at. it's just history repeating itself.

The Clio is it's own car and Renault like it that way. don't like it don't buy it.

Thanks for reading :)

Interesting thoughts. I think this is the first time you could ever compare a Ford Fiesta and Clio in top spec form though. With the MK2, it cannot be compared against an Fez ST1 and with the MK3, there was still only the ST1 to compare to. Which is unfair in terms of performance.

Yes, the Clio won twice, because the MK2 and MK3 are brilliant cars, bar the Gordini Mk3 they just had a lapse there.

The comments that say "don't like it, don't buy it", I won't, I'm not in the market for either the Ford or Renault, but if you were...thread continue.

I like the look of the Clio. I watched the video they did of it in Granada and it got good reports from the guy driving it.
I've driven a Fiesta 1.6 automatic in Canada last year and was very impressed by the overall quality of the car. The level of equipment was really good.
I don't get the gimmicky sound tube and selectable engine sounds built into the sound system on the RS Clio. Surely the point of a performance hot hatch is to enjoy the way the car performs on the road and on track, not to turn up the volume on the stereo to listen to artificial engine sounds while you're driving.

FYI some of the big Ford tuners are already taking delivery of the ST for development. I reckon there will be some fairly impressive upgrades for this car.

I said that over on the st forum. Give it a couple of years and I recon these ecoboost engines will be making silly numbers

Wrong.

Even if I was my points raised are true, no?

Maybe true... but to me (and many others going by general opinion on here and other forums) "little", "3 doors", and "old fashioned gearbox" are exactly what people want.

I agree but until theres proof in the sales we will never know ;)

True... although it's worth noting, the people that care are the geeks like (most of) us. What percentage of the buying public actually care as much? Very little I should think, therefore, sales wise at least, you may well be correct. Would still be a shame though (for the purists) imo.

Do you mean that's not what you're looking for Mark and you've gone for the Clio? I'm confused.

  Fiesta ST
That sounds promising. I am hopefully ordering a new st in the next week or so as soon as I can find a dealer with one available to test drive

There should be a few as some have been delivered to owners.

  Fiesta ST
Yeah I went to Huddersfield a few weeks ago and they said within the month. I've noticed a few people on the fiesta forums have had them delivered so I'm going to ring around today

I mean my decision to stray from the RenaultSport brand seems like it may pay dividends.

Off to a dealer tomorrow morning to hopefully place an order.

Anyone know what sort of lead times currently apply on these?

Edit: A month? Oooooh...that'll be better the the 4RS...I'll be hugely surprised if anyone takes a RHD delivery from Renault before August LOL

  Fiesta ST
I'm not sure which ones are recommended but I signed up on fiestastoc.com as they had the most information and topics on the mk7

Here's what's going make make the ST leagues ahead of the Clio4

How many company's out there specialise in truly push the limits of Renaults. And how many for fords.

A 280bhp ST will be normal "meh" in a couple of months.

How ever, the Clio 4 will have a remap and and inter cooler, then no doubt the internals will be on there limits much like the Megane.

As much as I prefer the idea of the ST I think the Juke engine has potential. It's not a Renault engine Mike remember. They've already tuned the Juke engine.

Ah sorry Mark, thought you were ordering a 200T. Look forward to hearing if you like it or not.

Seen a blue st yesterday. Looks lovely. If I could afford one I'd buy one for the misses :) really nice looking car :)

I like the fact that despite everything saying it only has 180bhp or so, in reality, it has 200bhp pretty much all the time, whenever you need it. And it only weighs 1,100 kgs.

If it is screwed together only half as well as my 51 plate 1.6 Zetec Focus was, it will be light years ahead of Renault in terms of build/cabin quality...the steering wheel won't melt.

I like the idea of the 4RS, I love the idea of the 4RS, I really want a 4RS, but I don't want to be a guinea pig helping them develop it while they ponder down-shift mapping and gear ratios, while all the time the cabin disintegrates around me.

My plan with the ST is 5 years, 100k miles as a minimum (extended warranty and servicing packages make it a good proposition) so if by then Renault have sorted their direction out, I may well be back in one.

Lols! That a big plan. I wish I could stay in a car that long! If I could guarantee I wouldn't want to change I'd have bought one already on Ford options through my Brother.

Apologies as I haven't read all the posts, but there were a few Fiesta ST's at the RS central day at Santa Pod Sun and f**k me that trout pout grille is AWFUL
