Your joking mate? Mine has done 63k without it being changed...

Do you know what the cost is roughly? I bet Renault have to do it so it wont be cheap

Where abouts are you? I personally wouldn't go to Renault, but be prepared to travel for a good specialist. It's worth it IMO.
Up north - Matt Black, Specialist breakers (Accrington) - I'm booked in for next week, bout a 45min drive but worth it IMO for a proper job.
LTR - Bury
Mids - YozzaSport
Down South - Rentech

Theres plenty more I can't recall off the top of my head. You're probably looking at £300 notes. Don't risk it mate, get it done.

Mines 2000 58k getting done on Monday (Praying it holds up and this heat doesn't get to the rubber too much!!)

My mums 172 cam belt went at about 20k, seen another go at 30k.

Both were caused by one of the alternator belt pullys bolt working loose, alternator belt falls off, alternator belt gets pulled into the cam belt, expensive bill...

Both cars were just out of warranty!

Maybe something to check!

mine was replaced at 35k, the owner before got all the reciepts.

the belt actually snapped and ended up costig £2700 to get sorted. couldn't believe it when i was looking through all the history.

is £400 that bad when you look at it that way?

Well if you have the whole cam kit for the job that's £120ish iirc from Renault alone.

Whilst the cambelt is being changed is their anything else worth doing whilst they are poking around in that area? :)

I was quoted over £600 from Renault to do the cambelt:eek:

gordon lamb in chesterfield quoted me 435 all in including vat which aint bad so i am hoping for a big discount from a local garage!!!

would recomend 50,000 miles tops and before 5 years, especially if its been driven hard...

seen quite a few with frays etc at over 50k miles.... so it would have been a matter of time.....

repairs to these and not cheap for the sake of an early change.

must be noted though that all the tensioners and runners need changing... not just the belt and use of a genuine kit is advisable...

if you have a 1.6 16v on a K4M, similar engine design, these seem even more prone to belt failure... ( no idea why ).... so essential to get an early change done.... (we did 3 of these this year so far on normal everyday cars.. that had just let go....)

so andi the cambelt kit from renault at 120 would have everything that is need to do the change completely? and would you need a full service doing at the time of change? cheers mate
