Civic Clean - Auto Finesse Illusion

Knuckles

ClioSport Admin
Grab a cuppa.

I've been wanting to try some of this for a while, I actually bought a sample from Aucky a couple of week ago before getting the tester pot.

With the weather being as bad as it was this week I jumped at the obscenely sunny day we had on monday... much to the girlfriends dismay .

Anyway, pics.

Girlfriends dirty Civic, the Clio still has Desire on.

This scratch was the focus of my cleaning venture, I really wanted to try my 4.52 DA on it.

People would be happy with this finish, but I knew they weren't clean yet

Still a nice colour/finish/gloss though, putting that down to Tough Coat

Next up, Tardis... but there wasn't much tar on the paint, surprisingly. The wheels needed a few spots agitating though, but no pics.

Then new Lemon Scent Iron X. Strong, strong recommendation from me on this one.

B8F78920-A2AD-497A-90B1-9BD010DEA8C2_zpsoc6pvozj.jpg

The smell is more than bearable, the lingering smell is reminiscent of spiced lemons. Nowhere near as distressing as Cherry Iron X

I was surprised at the lack of fallout considering the amount of action this car sees.

I didn't think there was much contamination left on the car, but I gave it a clay anyway.

Did the bonnet which left

C59032F8-3994-4FA1-9CCF-05AA6A044A23_zpsebvgoxx5.jpg

Since this was the first time I used my Auto Finesse Clay, I wasn't sure if it was just really soft or if there actually was that clean... So I went over it with the last of my turtle wax clay which I know picks up a lot and it came off immaculate... Strangely clean car.

The car had minor swirling which I wanted to test Tripple against Via Dual Action Polisher.

F566BEF6-5A9E-4B33-A4A4-B4D7B88F20D8_zpsjcpetjs6.jpg

It took a few attempts but I managed to get a decent correction with just Tripple. Some of the deeper marks and swirls are still present but for now, I'm happy with this.

I struggled to capture it properly, but the Tripple really brought out the depth and flake in the paint. Right side Trippled, Left side not.

Smells better than Desire IMO, very, very oily, spreads ridiculously well and its silly easy to remove.

I did the whole car before buffing a corner of the first panel. It came off very easily. So I did the tyres in Auto Finesse Gloss

It leaves a very nice, damp/natural finish but I found it very watery for a gel, could do with being a fair bit thicker IMO.

After this, I buffed off Illusion... I wanted to see how easy it came off after a bit of reading on here. I feel I really took the piss, caked it on in places, left it for a good 20/30 mins (in the sun) and it was only a little grabby on removal in places.

I've got many more, but lets see how my bandwidth fairs.

In summary

Very easy to use, apply and remove, smells awesome and leaves an incredible finish. Very deep and glossy. Apparently it gives 2/3 month protection which, if true, is amazing. I expected a month tops from a pure show wax, hopefully it lasts the test of time.

Cheers

Thanks :),

It'll look awesome on performance blue.

The tripple actually cut it all out, which I was surprised about tbh.

I used a meguiars w9006 (iirc) soft buff finishing pad as I need to buy more pads and Honda paint is silly soft.

pretty amazing for a cut! Really looking forward to it now lol. I've got the megs black pad also.

could you use tripple every few months to fill or would it just cut all the time?

Itd cut each time you use it due to the abrasives, I use it twice/ three times a year if that when doing 'big cleans'

A dedicated glaze like poorboys black hole would be best for you. Afaik it has no abrasives so you can use it as often as you like. And I think the Meg's black pad has little to no cut so you'd be able to apply it as much as you want with that pad.

Nice work, one of my favourites Illusion!

thanks, I think it's one of mine too now

Thanks mate.

Would illusion go over black hole ok?

I'm not the person to answer that sorry, you best ask that in the detailing chat and questions thread. Although I can't see why it wouldn't go over black hole.

Great write up, car ended up looking lovely :)

Cheers, I didn't realise how much of a difference it mad until I saw the before and after haha.

Great work with both Illusion and the rest of the car!

I love the depth of thread and the macro style finished photos Knuckles.

Keep up the good work and keep enjoying Illusion,

Joe

Lovely work Scott, how did you check for any filling from Tripple?

Cheers, I didn't  didn't have time to wipe it back and as I wasn't going for/expecting much correction, I was happy with it.

Would a watered down IPA be sufficient to remove any fillers in the future?

Looks class! :)

Is the paint on a Civic easier to correct than the Renault paint?

Cheers :D

civic paint is painfully soft, I knew this before hitting it with the da due to the amount of dainty scuffs, scratches and stone chips... We've had this from 14,000 miles with near immaculate paint, so I've been able to see new marks appearing.

There are at opposite ends of the scale mate.

For better or worse? :p
I'm thinking of getting one - not for the fact it's easier to clean of course lol

I've heated that I wouldn't own a honda due to the paint picking up so many scuffs lol

But you said the Tripple cut it all out? How would you know?

IPA on it's own is what most use. I use Spies Hecker panel wipe. Similar idea but better.

Oh, sorry, I was talking about the swirls.

The scuff, I couldn't see or feel it any more and I doubt the fillers which are meant to mask swirls would be sufficient to fill the scuff. ill double check nex time I clean it though.

Are they a trade only product or are they available for the public to buy?

@gally, the tripple didn't cut it all out. But it cut it/rounded off the edges so you can only see it from a couple of angles. It was a right pain to photograph
