This is due to demand, IMO though a chip on a std engine is not going to gain worthwhile increase in PEAK power, however I have been asked for it 100's of times and I am going to spend some time to get some improvments
We have fitted on several occasions SMT's to std engines by request and the owners have been really pleased, much to my suprise....
improvments in throttle and drivability have been reported
one of the main reasons for this is the open loop map on the std ecu is set to run leaner in the mid range areas to get the economy etc that Renault want, when we change the values we increase the fueling in those areas to give you more power lower down.
The overall "PEAK" net effect does not change much but the gains in the midrange areas are pretty good.
of course then when you change the intake and exhust etc etc the mapping can make best use of these changes.
