Adam's 172 Turbo Build

Also, that interior paint looks like it’ll be quite grippy... is it?

Looks really good and I now want a new shell to fully restore and make it a minter of a track toy ??

That heat shield does look decent too ??

Cheers buddy. Nowhere near the standard of yours but I’m happy with it.

Thank you.

Your build is looking wicked mate. I’ve just brought a 182 with cambelt failure and have ripped engine out to put new one in and am cleaning the bay whilst there. What’s the size of the heat shield sheet you used ?
Thanks

Cheers. Its a 1m by 1m sheet folded in half one way so 1m wife by half meter deep.

What’s that bit for that sticks out where the inlet goes on top of the block ? I’ve took my intake manifold of and mines blank instead of having that pipe sticking out to go into the mani

Awsome updates. Can't believe how much you have done since getting the car. I thought the original plan was a cheap track day toy ?

Where did you get the oil cooler from? Need to get one for my track day car.

Look forward to further updates.

You must have a 182?

I do enjoy reading this, need a catch up soon mate!!

Yeah buddy sounds good to me.

Love how neat your work is!

Cthank you.

Mount the oil cooler on rubber mounts mate. The vibrations will kill it otherwise.

It is mate it’s only mocked up there to drill the holes from inside the engine bay before engine goes in.

Cheers. I honestly didn’t plan on doing all this it just kind of evolved lol.

Oil cooler kit came off eBay, it’s a thermostatically controlled one, believe it was around ££100 ish.

Made a start on the fuel system. Definitely not going to suffer from fuel surge now ?

Walbro GSS341 in tank pump to feed a 2ltr swirl pot then a Walbro GSL392 in-line pump supplying juice to the fuel rail where it’s regulated to 3bar and any unused fuel being returned to the swirl pot then the tank if pot is full.

Looking good mate! I will need to do that in the near future. Just need the car running first. How tall is the swirl pot?

That looks superb!! Although not sure I would use felt? In case of leaks etc. Probably won’t leak but it will absorb the smell. I could be very wrong. Looks very good tho!

Soooo bought a Gen90 in the end, already has a map for similar setup to mine so I’ll use it to run the engine in then take it to EFI for any tweeks needed.

Made a bracket for it and modified the gearbox mount to accept it, will put a layer of closed cell foam in between when it goes in properly to help stop vibrations.

Job done.

Meant we could put power to fuel setup to test it, this is what came out of 4 ignition cycles, think we’ll be ok for fuel ?

Cleaned and regressed/protected coilovers, should have done this last year and the anodising is a bit s**t to be honest.

Good call on the genuine turbo. 2560?

Acf do something thicker than the 50 that's meant to be better, kam racing have it on their site.

It’s a GT2860RS .64 so should be fast spoiling and still make decent power.

I’ll take a look on Kam racing site, they do a grease to which I put on the threads.

Adam, you might want to reconsider your oil cooler. It’s only a 10roe right? Been to donny yesterday and was struggling with oil cooling big time, after only 2 laps pushing temp would go to high 120s. Ordered 25row for myself yesterday.

There’s no room for bigger? Mine sits on top of cross member and still pokes through top of bumper. Guess I could put another the same right beside it and link them together. We didnt seem to have oil cooling problems with my friends turbo ones tho so I’ll see what happens :)

What power you going for?

330-350 progressively mapped through a boost solinoid hopefully.

Said turbo and official Garrett Turbo fitting spanner ?

Getting a 2871 turbo out with the engine in place is a b*****d! New ones half fitted just waiting for a couple of bits to arrive.

I've got 5 different 13mm spanners for clocking turbos when they are on the car and even then it's still a pain sometimes!!

How much was it out of curiosity?

Cheapest I could find was just over £800 don’t think there as popular as they used to be due to the GTX versions now available.

  dan's cast offs.
The new G25 is out now so hopefully some of the older stuff might start to come down in price although I've found the G25 can be cheaper than the gxt gen2.

Priced a 3071 and the G25 was cheaper!!!
