Area manager from arnold clark has just been on the phone and asked if i would be willing to bring the car to their RenaultSport specialist dealership which 2 weeks ago was fitted with the latest suspension geometry equipement, he will meet me there, he used to be a renault technical expert and is going to have the car put on the machine while im there and get it checked out.

Fingers crossed this will be the end of this issue!!!

Ouch... Just read the thread. That's pretty awful service, but you should definitely see it through to the end, there will undoubtedly be an investigation from above into that dealership when it transpires that they've brushed you off so many time.

from what i gather from reading through this....
the alignment issues have been caused since engine replacement?
and the issues are caused from the front subframe "rear section" removal to remove the engine/gearbox assembly?

if so and you want some more ammunition you need to be asking the dealer/telling the dealer why they have removed the subframe as it doesn't need to be removed to remove the engine.
It appears theyve caused the problem because theyve not followed renaults reccomended repair procedure!

OOOOOOOPS!

car went in today, they have full 4 wheel lazer aligment, looks similar to a hunter setup but this one is a snap-on one.

alignment was done, subframe all checked etc car is now all within manufacturer tollerances, car is still slightly unstable under braking but keep in mine one of they tyres is worn much more than the other, which it goes back in on thursday for 2 new front tyres and fingers crossed a working car, once they have done that they are going to put it on the break ballance machine to double check that the brakes are ok, they seem to be wearing pretty evenly now where 1000 miles ago their was more dust on one wheel etc.

Christ missed this first time round - kinda puts me off my next plan after the meg and getting a brand spanker.

Second hand FTW!

I've just read through the whole thread. What absolutely horrendous customer service for a returning customer. It often seems with companies that you had to go a lot further than you should do just to receive what every customer should. I hope it is sorted once you get the tyres done!

My grandad had an issue with a Renault dealership, gearbox went on him 1.2 clio after 1400 miles.. AA came out to take the car to the dealership and for 8 days they refused to accept that the gearbox had gone even though the AA man told them it had... In the end they stripped it down and found that it was f'cked...

It's a real shame that all this has happened to you mate, I can't believe how unhelpful that dealership has been throughout the whole thing. I don't think I could have kept my cool about it for this long and that car would have been on fire on their forecourt weeks and weeks ago.

Good luck

heres the alignment report guys...
20120515138.jpg

They said the subframe sits in locating dowels, so once its in, you cant get movement from it, so once Progrip got it sitting in properly, thats as much as you can do, so it still has that 4mm difference between the front wheels.

Everything is sitting within tollerance now which is why its all green but if you look at some of the figures they are at extreme ends of the tollerance side to side - could this cause issues?
should the car have that sort of difference in camber side to side? i assumed you would want it as close as possible to each other? or is this setup to stop it pulling to one side on cambered uk roads?

basically once the car has a pair of new front tyres on it ill take it a good test run and see if its fixed, arnold clark say they cant find out why its wore its n/s tyre so fast in the inside so are assuming its happened before the subframe was re aligned so now it should be fine, i guess since im not paying for the tyres then we will just need to wait and see. they also mentioned with the car not having an LSD and that side having the shortest driveshaft thats the wheel that will spin up most of the time, however ive very rarely ever had the car spin up during driving.

anyone got any thoughts on that report?

Can you get them to stick another RS from the forecourt on the machine, see what readings that's giving?

Computer says it's fine though.
yep thats the issue as far as they are concerned its ok, now i dont know enough about suspension geometry to say if that can still cause the issue or not, id imagine on day to day road driving thats acceptable, (it drives fine daily) push on though and its dangerous.

also quick question, if the car is suffering from a sticking pad or something brake related, will a brake efficiency tester or what ever they call it that they use for MOT's show this up, as like i said around town the brakes feel fine no pulling, hard on the brakes approaching a roundabout etc it wanders about the road , mostly left but the brakes generally feel very weak when doing this, only thing i can compair it to is when you absolutely cook the brakes on a 172 and find yourself aproaching a roundabout with loads of brakefade, that weird feeling where you think, s**t im not stopping in time!

i genuinely feel like setting up a pettition and getting as many people i can who own clio 200's to drive this one and give an opinion on it! lol

Ok , surprised that the motorsport boys haven't been on here to give you some guidance but looking at the figures you have now i can't see an issue with it as a standard setup .

i would suggest the front tyres will make a difference to the braking stability , and what they have told you about it spinning up the shorter shaft ns wheel is correct .

can't see it won't drive fine now ....

Martin_172

yeah i understand the shorter shaft is always going to spin up first when launching but i dont launch it, and ive very rarely had it spin a wheel on exit of a corner either, however we will see how the next pair of tyres wear.

ill report back when the new tyres are on, probably friday morning and see where we go from there!

Yes the brake tester should show this up mate, as one side will have more pressure when you start to apply the brakes

Martin , there is always slightly more torque to the shorter shaft (of you have the effect of ) its why when a car torque steers it always pulls left first .

update, car came back from dealership with 2 new tyres driving pretty well, for about 3 days and now its back to its old tricks pulling left hard under braking and then it appears the EBD kicks in and trys to correct it but ends up over correcting it, take your hand of the steeringwheel, brake hard it dives left then the steeringwheel turns right and starts trying to correct, its like nightrider!

done 2 laps of knockhill and had to abandon it as it was that dangerous!

going into Ian Grieve Subaru on Wednesday for a look as they are very well respected about here and im finished with renault.

Martin--

Wouldnt it be better to get it ou there with a GO pro camera & film the problems whilst your driving?

then take the evidence to renault-

Also compare it like for like with another 200?
