1 question on rs tuner please

  03 RS clio 172 flameR
ok so jus got me rs tuner and read all the s**t about it then went to get the
rst file and cal file and im a bit confused, i have currently got the 6400 software so i simply put the cal file on for the 6400 software, this made it alot better than before, but now i am wondering what is the point of going from the 6400 software to the 6500? is ther any difference, help please?

i just red my .cal file and told henk my software version.

then he sent me back a new file to load on.

I've asked numerous question but dont get any answers :( !

for example...

Apologies for my stupidity in advance!! Okay so this is what info I get from the ECU... Software Version. 6400 Calibration Version. 5402

Am I right in thinking I could/should load load on the grn_6400_2A07.rst file followed by the 6400_2AO7_WEB_RON98.cal file?? Or do you just go for the highest value .rst file? which is 6500_5405.rst for my car.

I cant understand why I can't load on 6400_2A07.rst (base grp N map) followed by 6400_2A07_WEB_RON98.cal

Or 6500_5404 .rst followed by 6500_5404 RON98 dec 2008.cal.

I was told to do 6400_2A07_WEB_RON98.cal only.

Im not moaning just struggling to see why one of the other .rst files couldn't be used instead.

richy thats the exact same situation im in, i got all those same files etc and loaded on just a cal file but wanna know why i dont use the other rst files as they are th full remaps not jus the 20 second calabration files.

Precisely dude :)

From reading the manual it says

In case you want to carry out a total ECU reprogramming (.rst file 'write ecu') you need
to use a .rst file that begins with software version 6xxx_xxxx.
Programming anything else could do harm, see above statement.
Examples total ECU reprogramming (.rst file 'write ecu')
- 6100_2AB0 --> 6500_5404 OK
- 6400_2A07 --> 6500_5404 OK
- 6100_2AB0 --> 7300_5B10 NOT OK CAUTION
- 8000_7802 --> 8100_7803 OK

In case you only want to perform a partial ECU reprogramming (.cal file 'write cal') you
need to have a .cal file that begins with the same software version number, in this case
6400_xxxx.
Examples partial ECU reprogramming (.cal file 'write cal')
- 6400_2A07 --> 6400_5400 OK
- 8100_7802 --> 8100_7803 OK
- 9100_4008 --> 9100_4005 OK
- 6100_2AB0 --> 6500_5404 NOT OK CAUTION

But there must be a difference in some of those .rst files on the website. Maybe to do with what software the cars came out of the factory with?

I cant see what damage loading the 6500_5404.rst file then the 6500_5404 RON98 dec 2008.cal ,will do but don't know if I want to take that risk :)

same here, why would the manual show as a example going from a 6400 to 6500 if there was no point what so ever. im confused.com

Ha ha At least its not me! Unless it confuses with the name rich (Im guessing your a Richard as well with your username!)

you can do it without any problem but its only worth it if for example you are on 6400 and there is no groupn cal. to go with it and there is with the 6500 so in that case you could change over to the 6500

the 6400 rst file is the group n map. Some cars respond better to the 6400 cal file and some cars respond better to the 6400rst file, and other cars for both! Play around with it! thats what you got the kit for.

Stick to the rules and you will be ok!

I installed the 6400 rst file (grp N) and the aug 6400 cal file and all gravey.

the 6500 file etc i believe is the standard base map should you want to revert.

You can use what ever you want, I had the exact same ECU version (6400) and have used both, 6400 and 6500 with all the maps available at the site, and mind you, all the same performance wise, whichever you go will make your car happier, and you too!

The 6500 software offers no performance benefit compared to 6400. Its just a later emissions related software version.
