Bought one of these to keep up with the kids.

Stupid money tbh for what is just bits of plastic, so that's 3/4 plates and new badges.....what next. Oh and Renault sport mats

Your one of the cool kids now mate, does look good though.

FLOL

Update.

The car went in for its MOT yesterday after fitting the full fat interior and mats, I played mix and match with all the best plastics and trim from both my cars and the half leather interior so its looking good, fair bit of difference between interiors on the 52 plate and 53 plate Cups. Main difference is thicker carpets in a different colour, I kept the lightest version for just now.

So the car failed its MOT on

Window washers (stupid oversite) replaced the pump and its good now.
Headlight adjustment, ball joint had popped out on the n/s light adjuster, sorted.
Emissions (decat fitted) I knew I would have trouble but the tester tried some things to pass it which didn't work so I'll refit the cat and have a re-test done.

While rectifying those little bits last night I flushed the cooling system with rad flush, drained, changed header tank and filled with type d coolant (is Renault coolant usually green?!?!?)

The car has twice now had the revs stick at 2000rpm at lights and junctions so will have to look into that as its embarrassing like I want a race or something at the lights, I'm thinking TB or air leak potentially, hopefully the TB.

Today I'm going to fit the bucket seats, harnesses, steering wheel, pop off boss and Ph1 indicator stalk. I should really fit the cat but that us a job I'm not looking forward to with the subframe on and I might let the test station tackle that one.

Pics to follow tonight of the last two days jobs.

  Cup In bits
Right so another day spent on the car messing around, woke up this morning and decided I wanted the car going this weekend so set off down the lock up to change the cat, what a job that is lying on your back, after a bit of swearing I dropped the subframe and with the aid of the worlds smallest 1/4 ratchet It was done.

The car will be staying with the cat for the near future, dont want to do that for a while. I'm glad I swapped to the 182 manifold on the race car just for this reason. The air filter got removed and cleaned last night as the hydro carbons were also high on the emissions, I was a bit worried about that but it flew through the retest.

I went from the test station down to Kwik fit to utilise there new hunter allignment machine, well impressed with it tbh it's so sensitive. I done the allignment with the guy as he wasnt sure what a minute was or anything tbh. It turned out slightly off which will be sorted in a week or so when everything has settled, not bad for a £20 casher.

Never got a chance to get tax so will sort that tomorrow morning and then fit the harnesses, steering wheel and front door cards. Everything's taking longer than expected including fitting the buckets, was a bit if a fiddle for one person to fit them.

Drivers got sliders so thanks Cupman for supplying them.

And a quick one of the header tank, I need to remove some coolant.

I went for a blast (private road) after fitting the seats, didnt want to go too far without seatbelts but I'm well impressed, the cars very front biased, not sure if its just the RARB doing it or what but I like it, I will fiddle with the roll bar over the next week and then maybe have some more camber and toe out on the front depending on what it turns out like.

Good stuff passing the mot!

Love those seats and glad the runner came in handy. Did you get the seat low enough?

  Cup In bits
Aye glad its finally got the golden seal.

The seats are nice but a real tight squeeze in a little Clio tbh, Im tempted to get non winged seats come racing time. The runners don't want to work with the seat in place (unbolt the side mounts and it slides :S) so i'll check that out so It can be moved back and forward. They allowed me to mount the seat a lot further back and the end result was the base is probably 50mm lower than standard which is well needed with the 'ride on' standard seating position and my lanky frame. Racecar is hopefully getting painted this weekend as well so I'll get to use your spacers soon too...thanks for both.

Get some pics up of the spacers. Interested to know how they'll look at 30mm a side.

Is the runners lined up square and is there any bolts catching when they're trying to slide?

I will when I get a chance to fit them mate. I'm looking forward to the results, might need a fud hair off them with other shims in there but better to be too thick so I can change them.

That was my thoughts as well but I used predrilled holes on the base frame so it should be square, it was pitch dark while doing them so I'll get a look tomorrow in the light.

  Cup In bits
Maybe you have to use smaller headed bolts as it may be catching on the bolts you have used. I had Recaro sliding frames and they used small flat headed bolts

The side mounts are probably pulling the runners inwards slightly - causing too much friction for them to move

Sorted it today, I originally bolted the runners to the side mounts and then bolted that to base frame which was pulling them in at the back causing it to bind, I had used M8 bolts with no washers so that wasn't an issue inside the runner. Slackened all base frame to runner bolts and it glided back and forth, secured with the seat in place. That's what happens when you work by torchlight :dapprove:

Had yet another day on the Clio, got up early and got tax then polished off pretty much everything I want to do to the car except put 10mm spacers all round, I still have 20mm on the front until I get the right bolts for 10's. I'm getting scrubbing on hard lock and pushing on a bit with et40 7jx16" wheels, 195/45's 20mm spacers and sportlines which surprised me considering the height of it, all should be fine when 10mm's are fitted.

Removed the old plates and gave the recesses a good clean with petrol.

Had a hand from my mate to fit harnesses at the right length, he sat there as a manakin basically the whole day, I also moved the drivers seat over 20mm to the inside to allow it to move back and get a good bit if tilt, solved the sliding issue as well and theres no rubbing issues with the seat wings so I'm chuffed with that.

Fitted my R-sport wheel with a cheap bolt on snap off boss (got it off here and I cant remember the lads name but thanks for that) also I have Iceman's main boss with electrical connections built in for wheel buttons, need to do some work on that before it goes on the racecar.

Had my mate out for a spin and scared the life out him, it's the first Cliosport he's been in and was impressed with its eagerness to be thrashed. I drive home and gave it a quick snow foam and a wipe over with a mitt before the light faded, its no concourse car but the mechanicals are what this is all about. Cracked out the digital for some better pics.

Hoping not to do much to it except fuel it and clean it (see how long that lasts) . It could be doing with a new manifold gasket and the rubber seal that's around the handbrake (no idea why that was ever removed) so will do them and then have the alignment tweaked and it will be ready for its first track day on the 21st of April at Knockhill.

Looking good. Regarding the frames, I put a few metal washers on the transmission side to even it out a little.

Yeah if you just leave the standard seat spacers in on the gear tunnel then they are perfectly square, not possible for me unfortunately, you can barely feel it, looks stupid from the rear view though.

Looks great!

Did you not fancy the callipers in a brighter colour?

Cheers.... I thought about it tbh but being a daily for just now I didn't want to tart everything up, i'm going for the OEM/understated look (if thats possible in a noisy Clio) I like the original coating on them and there in good condition so I will leave them untill they need painted as it then becomes a regular thing to keep them nice (painting) when they are getting a beating.

So over the last few days I have detailed the car, probably the only one it will get so spent a while doing it. I like to take the first clean in my ownership to extremes so that its easier to keep up. I also fitted some new badges, wipers and the CS clobber. I'm still waiting on new b pillar badges, PMS stud kit and spigot rings and I will then detail the arches with a bit of paint and seal my wheels. Interior needs front door cards fitted and a full going over too.

Finished product, overall pretty happy but the front and back bumpers could be doing with respraying to be perfect and some more time spent on deep scratches, can't see myself doing the painting though as its not a keeper.

Very shiney! Good work.

I've not got the time or the patience to do that these days unfortunately. Wish I had both.

Cheers, looking alright for a £999 car now.

I have the time but no patience, not for me as a job anyway. Usually gets done once when I get the car and a going over a year down the line if I still have it.

Hows your engine coming, any planned days at KH?

  172 cup, Impreza P1
Looks very good for under a bag of sand!

Just waiting on some parts coming such as oil pump, sump, gaskets, etc then I can build it up. Going to give the block a paint too just to tart it up.

Hopefully get to KH for the summer.

Wasnt to pretty when I got it, beg borrowed and stole from the other cup and spent almost a week of 7-10 hour days to tidy it up.

Good stuff, thought you might manage the 21st of this month but you sound a while off yet.

When I decided to go fully forged it was quite a back step in terms of completion dates but should be worth it in long run. (I hope! lol)

Not bad for 106,000 miles eh, that headlight was pretty crazed too. I have a set of xenons coming In a few days, improves the cups loads I think.

I know the feeling mate, you get so far into a job and think I be as well do that too while I'm in here, 6 months later and your further back than when you started.

Wheel spigot rings and stud kit have arrived so going to get that done tonight, save me worrying about having 20mm spacers with no spigot rings.

Getting the geo tweaked again tomorrow and then its off for 2 weeks all inclusive on a floating prison.

Should have my xenons, wind deflectors and boot liner by the time I'm back and I need to fiddle with the exhaust, sort a couple of squeeks that are annoying me, new tie rod that I never got a chance to fit and the front door cars. Should be a complete car then.

  Cup In bits
Looking good, iv still got my stud bolts to put on yet.

PMS studs are a nightmare to find the right allen key due to their coating, I have used a torx socket on both my cars now and it gulls the ends slightly which isn't ideal, a slightly ground down 4.5mm Allen key would be perfect iirc.

  Cup In bits
You can do that fine but you really need to lock the two nuts together for any purchase which then damages the coating on the nuts (unless you have other m12x1.5 nuts)

  Cup In bits
Finally got the front door cards fitted and hopefully sorted the rattling drivers glass, okay so far.

Fitted the genuine Renault battery that my other cup won't be needing and gave the bay a wipe over.

Couldn't get the geo tweaked as they were too busy so I'll get that done when I'm home in two weeks after I fit the other tie rod. Any suggestions on a good tie rod tool? I have already bought one that works on aftermarket tie rods but not the o.e.m rods, would like a more universal tool.

Really nice project thread this. Just been readi g through after seeing it in the track car thread :)

Have you got anymore pics of the harnesses and how you've set them up? I've full interior and want to have 4 point 3" straps in mine.

Cheers, yeah I have a few I'll PM you, they are actually 6 point roll cage mount harnesses converted to four point d-clip fitment.

I have got a trackday on Sunday which leaves me 1 day to fiddle with bits, my list is far too long.

Got a few bits done tonight, I fitted the boot mat, wind deflectors, steering boss and extension (lifeline snap off to come from Iceman before Sunday hopefully)

Remove foglights
Fit xenons, oreca exhaust, airbox, longer caliper bolts, tie rod and get tracking done, seal the wheels with gtechnic G5, wash, pick up van, pack van and trailer and replace a few bulbs. Busy day anyway.

hopefully I get all that done and I can swap out the pads to DS2500 at KH if there needed, looks like a wet day so I can't see it.

That's me not long home from playing with the car all day, left at 6. Trailer loaded, van packed and ready to go for tomorrow. I will upload videos and update on the work carried out today.
