Icemans Britcar Endurance project 182

  Turbos.
Sounds great, well done! Look forward to the vid.

Takes me back to Combe a couple of years back when it was 32 degrees outside and god knows what in the car. Was sitting in full clobber in the car in the collecting area for about 20 mins, almost passed out!

Great write up, well done! Must feel very rewarding bringing in results after all the work you have put into it. Looking forward to the video!

Brilliant write up really looking forward to the videos if they have come out.

Congratulations must be such a buzz, can only imagine what it's like to actually race there after only doing trackdays there!

Thanks Mark :) Can't wait to see the video so fingers crossed it worked lol!

Great write up and can't wait to see how you do in the rest of the season.

Ps I told you not to say no when I asked if you had wheel bearing issue's :p

Ok I have a video and it's ok although the rear camera is too high and it runs out with 5 mins of the race to go DOHHHH. I Forgot to empty the CF card from all my practice sessions Duhhhhhh. Oh well it captures 42 mins of it so it's not too bad. Will post it up later tonight to my channel on Youtube and put the link here.

Iceman; I was at Cadwell on Sunday as I sponsor my mate in his Ginetta G40. I'm sure I got some photos of your clio, I'll have a dig through the memory cards tonight and take a look :)

Good hustling Mark before the pass, he spent too much time watching you rather than concentrating on what he was doing.

I am very pleased my engine build was ok mind you. Not checked it for leaks yet but will do once the car is back in my garage. I am told it sounds awesome with 120 mm trumpets in it

Great video Mark and awesome driving :) Your car certainly looks as quick in car as it did from the outside! It looks great to drive too although I can see what you mean about the danger its really narrow even at the top of the circuit

It's funny you say that Ash as I look at my videos and think I could have been much quicker there etc etc. I guess I'm not doing bad for my third ever race though so should not be too hard on myself. The car is very nice to drive I have to say, very stable and planted. The other teams hate my little Clio lol, pesky Clio and indeed they are. Be fun to move up to team trophy next year and class A as then I can add another 25 or 30 bhp to go to 200bhp/ton from 175bhp/ton. I'm nearly as fast as they are as it is!

Snetterton next time out in October.

very patient behind that scooby! bet you was thinking am i ever gonna be able to get past him?

seems unbelievably narrow track!

well done!

  BMW Z4
so you nearly rolled it the day before n still managed 1st place the next day? kudos!

whens your next race and wheres it at?

Yeh I found it a scary track at pace, God knows how BSB race round there! Serious balls. What surprised me is how fast you can leave the track when you feel like you're going rather slow in a slowish corner. I hate those standalone marshalls posts too as they are just something to hit at speed to be honest!

As for patience I learned that in 6 hour Endurance karting. Apply pressure, mentally pick your best spot for a pass, line it up a couple of times, pounce cleanly in that spot when the opportunity presents. You don't win races with silly moves and DNF's. I did not want to crash my car or someone else's at Cadwell where you can do serious damage. I think 10 or 15 cars got totaled over the weekend! I saw quite a few with front ends gone and jig work required.

Next race is at Snetterton in Sun 22nd October on MSVR weekend with the radicals and lotus cup.

if you dont mind me asking, what do you get for winning? im expecting trophy+cash. but how much exactly? like where in the grid would you need to come to not make losses or are you always going to make a loss and just make back whatever you can through some wins and advertising?

To the best of my knowledge there is no series in the UK at clubman level that pays prize money out. We get nothing but glory a trophy and a bottle of champers to spray around :) I would say 99% of clubman is owner funded.

Some nice footage there too.

Have you got a lower final drive now? It doesn't seem much lower from the indicated speed.

Apparently I have the following according to Ktech

I must correct my approximation on your shortening as I forgot you had 14/60 crown and pinion so you have just over 5% reduced final drive

A few pictures as promised mate :) A few more, along with others from the day at my Facebook page - www.facebook.com/2007bc (please feel free to Tag/Share yourself in the photos!)

Well done Mark, a great result!

I really enjoyed the video too. The camera and mic setup convey how harsh racing is compared to a trackday. We probably only drive like that for 2-3 laps before traffic or giving the car a rest but racing is continuos. I think it's the audio in your vid that makes this point come across so well.

I also couldn't believe how long you had to sit on the grid for! As if nerves aren't bad enough already! Nice driving too. That scooby was all over the place. I think I would have preferred to be infront of him rather than behind following him through some of those sections.

Lets hope your winning streak continues. Btw - I think it's safe to say your engine is now run in:)

I am trying to improve the camera all the time as I'm still not overly happy with the quality but it's nearly there. Harsh! yes indeed, quite shocking to be honest the difference between a track day and a race. I quite literally rag the arse off my car all the time. I was totally fucked I don't mind saying and was suffering from the heat badly, felt sick but had to carry on as I WANTED to win. I like it that a little Clio can be SO competitive on that grid of all different cars and when setup correctly is awesome to drive. I also like the new sound with my 120mm trumpets, very roarty I thought.

Lot's of new jobs on the car now to get her ready for Snett :) My pesky Clio has new found respect in the paddock ;)

Here are my pictures taken by my mate Nick.

Here are my pics from Cadwell..

Don't know how I missed them but just seen the photo's from raceday in your post above looks great :)

The problem with going even lower is you affect the kinematics even more so roll centre's, bump steer and various other things. I would also be wary because of how it was catching on various bits of the car when under load. The car did look to roll a bit coming in towards the Mountain complex but it can't be a bad thing as you still won lol! If you stiffened it up then it probably wouldn't catch so could lower it more but if it were me then I would just leave it as it's obviously working well as is :)

Any chance you can send me a link to where you got the saxo PAS rack and pump please?

Thanks
