Is you clutch creaky?

I am sick of this annoying issue and I'm curious just how many people have it. maybe this is not such a popular problem after all. I'm thinkin if there is some 1*2 with 100k on the clock with no creaky clutch then maybe there is a catch and the unlucky ones could sort it out somehow..

I'll start:
creak: yes
mileage: 62k
clutch changed: yes, at 50k
fork greased, clutch cable ok

Yep.

106k, no idea how old the clutch is. Does it on an off all the time, but increases after a 'spirited' drive.

mine only creaks after being on the track, normal driving is fine, but coming into to pits after a good sesh on the track it creaks like mad

Same story for 90% of the guides I find. Tigger, can you pester some admin to get to the bottom of it?

greased the nut-fork joint couple of days ago and also tried to reach the fork-release bearing area with some degree of success and it was good for 2-3 days. Obviously in my case it's not a clutch cable issue.
I'm thinkin if there's a way of re-designing those contact areas or modifying them.. Any engineer around? :D Is it really that hard to get rid of this stupid fault?

Yep mine creaks, either on a hot day or when i've been in a slow moving traffic jam where i've been on and off the clutch alot. mine is on 42k

I dont think there is any confirmed cure for this problem yet.

no there isn't
The car feels soooo much nicer without the creaky clutch :( Driven mine 5 years like that without bothering too much but now somehow it really bugs me

Probably because its been pretty warm the last few days, therefore it'll be worse!

Always gets worse when the weather's hot. In winter I don't think I ever get the creaking noise.

Started happening on mine about 30k ish. Had the clutch replaced along with the 84k service and all was silent. Put on 1,200+ miles during the Scotland road-trip and by the time I got back, the creaking had returned.

Tried greasing the cable and the forks, etc in past but it's always been a really short-term measure which I CBA to attempt to fix anymore.

As mentioned before, I wonder if the left-hand drive RS's suffer from the same creak - given the fact that their footwell's and the clutch are literally a few inches apart?

Yes did at 49k changed cable now on 63k aint done it since .(rushes off to touch wood !)

^ Isn't a 172 though Kerry - probably easier to spot your clutch cable than your engine in the bay lol ;)

Yep, creaking has returned on mine - 160k. Clutch changed at 140k with new cable fitted = fixed (temp). Fixed again at 155k by greasing the pivot point under the rubber cover (air filter off, cable off end of fork, remove cover and apply grease carefully). Creaking came back again. I blame dust.

FYI, it was my guide that Tigger mentioned but I didnt re-post it as my creaking came back and i just live with it.

Musing with a cable replacement though as well as looking at the bushes in the pedal itself.

heat seems to be a very common cause with it and in my opinion, that shouldnt be affecting the clutch release bearing.

It HAS to be cable or pedal busing related.

Any clutch cable guides?

I followed jinjur's guide, used a liberal amount of motorcycle chain grease, that was about 15k ago and I havent heard a peep yet, even if you had to do it more often though it's hardly a big job.

I used quite a lot of grease, took the cable off and pushed the lever over for one side and reconnected the cable and got a neighbour to step on the clutch pedal for the other side, as I say no problem since and mines was constant/loud as soon as the engine was warm

Im still of the opinion this is cable/pedal related and that all greasing does is lighted/smooth out the load ever so slightly.

im sure the engine being warm wont affect the innards and lubrication of the clutch release bearing
