Old people driving Clio sports

  Discounted 1*2 parts
For those that do track days (not many people on here), there is an old lady who does them, in an R26.R.

She gets in the way, but its nice to see that she's still into driving.

She is a regular at our work and her and her husband are both 70+ iirc and could out drive most people on track!

I was walking my dog down the park one day and a bloke in his sixties rolled up in a brand new Impreza STI,
he then let his Golden Retriever out the back. :approve:

I was pleasently surprised as most of the old boys that walk thier dogs show up in people carriers.

No age limit on owning decent cars, also as far as old people not changing gear above 3k rpm,
the way petrol is, i'm not changing above 3k rpm atm. :dapprove:

My Gran had a phase one 172, she had no idea what it was but went to the dealer and asked for the "top of the range car" as thats what she always had, it was at the point where she had a new clio every year.

  Megane 225 Trophy
I don;t see why not the Renautsports are nothing speacial in the grand scheme of things just a quick hatchback, I hope when Il'm in 50s I still enjoy a car with poke. I'm 35 and get the piss took out of me for driving one

  Monaco 172
More old people driving them, keeping them locked up in garages and not crashing them = lower insurance premiums. Sounds good to me.

  White clique
I'd say more than half the 172/182/197s around my way are people middle aged and over. Good to have them onboard TBH, it prevents the renaultsports from being full chav.

  Polo BlueGT
There's an older guy that comes into my work that has a mk2 phase1 172 cup. I got to talking to him and asked him a few things, he told me " I only drive it on Sunday's as it's my fun car and there is only 15k miles on the clock" I asked if he would be looking to sell it any time soon and if he was give me a shout and I would give him a good price. As he walked away he also told me he was the only ever owner... WANT!!

  172 Cup
I see a old'ish guy (probs say he is in his mid 50's) knocking around my neck of the woods a clean looking flamer.

Also see loads people in the 50's driving impreza's and evo's round here lol

To be fair a standard RS Clio has a very good standard spec, is comfortable, quiet and has a nice torquey economical (1*2's) engine. Even somebody not so much into driving could appreciate those qualities in a car.

There's a woman near me, probably in her 50's, who drives the mintest trophy i've ever seen.

Probably only has it because she likes the colour :dapprove:

When I'm 'older' I see myself in a sophisticated yet less fun hot hatch, something like an S3 or big engined 1 series. If not then a boring barge.

  172,scenic, trafic
There is an old guy I regularly see driving a 182 cup, with a private plate beginning with "Y5", up and down the A12. To put it lightly, he is a right nob end. Last week he tailgated me for the better part of 5 miles, then tried to overtake me even though I was turning right. I saw him on the A12 by Colchester once weaving in and out of traffic and generally just bullying people out the way, I was appalled tbh.

I did have chat with another old dude at Weeley petrol station about his new 200, he was telling me about his RS Clio history. He seemed nice enough :p
oh yes and 17 year old kids dont drive the same way? only difference is age has the skill and e xperience, kids just h ave acne

  Stripped yozza'd cup
I saw a couple driving a couple driving a ph1 last week in Brighton.... They were both staring at my cup though, so it's possible that were Renaultsport fans!

Lot of old people drive S3's.

A friend of mine from the pub is 64 and drives a mapped S3, and for his toy rides a GSXR1000. He doesn't mess about.

Other day i see this mk5 R32 on the other side of the road and when it drove past it was a women 60+ driving it to my shock! I think its old folks with money that want the top of the range. Nothing wrong though, we need more to get brilliant second hand motors :)

I think you misunderstood what I was saying mate, I didn't mean that old people have no driving talent, I'm sure Sir Jackie Stewart and Stirling Moss would still drive me under the table, I just meant that being old and having 'experience' doesn't necessarily mean that you're a better driver.
A good driver is a good driver, regardless of how old they are. Although granted, a talented driver with experience will be better than a equally talented driver without any.

PS: that is an epic car collection you have!

  mk8Fiesta ST,172 cup
my old man is 68 and just bought a new skoda fabia vrs, 180bhp, supercharger and turbocharger and paddle shift dsg gearbox, he loves it, hes also had a clio valver from new, lotus esprit from new, fiesta turbo from new etc, i guess once a petrol head always one......... ill be the same, age means nothing.

  Cup 172
Reading this post has made me lol as most of the guys i know my age (42) are big kids still and love fast cars, turbo/N2O bikes etc. Got my cup as i wanted something fun and a bit raw and i had fond memories of owning a PH1 RS years ago :) Driven new fast cars RS4, M3 etc etc and and sure they fly, but they do everything too smoothly and competently which isn't that exciting tbh. Whereas my cheap cup feels like a rattling go kart and needs a lot more driver input to get the best out of it. :) Anyway i'm waffling now better sit down with my pipe and slippers eh? :p

When i was 18 i bought a nice shiney new 1.2 clio, my dad liked the look of it and bought a brand new arctic 182 much to my annoyance.

I remember one day sitting outside the pub and hearing a car ragging it down the road, turned to see my dad flying round a corner on 3 wheels :approve:

He now has a orange ST Focus and a Honda fireblade

  Renault clio 1.2
I have spotted this alot really and have noticed that alot of old people are starting to drive clios, i dont know wether it is something to do with the insurance for a clio?
But it certanly seems to be a waste because every time i see them driving it they dont go past 20mph on a 40 road.
