Just had my test drive in a 197

  Swift Sport
I've just had my first trackday at Bedford yesterday and I can confirm the handling is immense!!! I was keeping up with cars I never thought I'd be keeping up with!!! :D

  Was a 197
no no no... its a 197 with the cup pack option & metallic paint and automatic wipers/lights, would have been nearly £17k on list price, but paid £14.5k

isn't even that still a bit dear? i thought you could get one for less than that even with all the bells and whistles

  2008 Albi 197
I hope all goes well and I get my 197 in the summer! Cannot wait after reading stuff like this. If I did get a pre 08 one though, how would I know if the ECU was updated?

Can any Mk3 have this patch installed at renault or just the 197?

Would be interesting to know this too.

My current car has the symptoms alan described, most noticeably on cold starts, juddering and a big power loss on the first few times pulling away from stood still. Caught me out a few times pulling onto a main road and it just crawled across the junction before finally coming to life!

not from renault i don't think fred, i did haggle like anything, oh and they did chuck in 6 months tax and a full tank when i pick it up and a set of renaultsport mats

i honestly don't know what they cost, just the cup thing for sub £13K made me think! Anyway don't new cars come with 12months tax anymore?

as you can see i haven't bought a new car in a while!!! haha

  Was a 197
not necessarily with 12 months tax as that isn't usually included in the price. I think that without the tax being included in the price gives you more to haggle with.

14k on a clio, woah, you should have saved yourself £11 000 and bought yourself a 172 cup which is faster, looks better, wont financially cripple you, and is better on fuel!

Each to their own though :)

If everybody did that then how would you ever get that cup for 3K, because it would never have been sold.

The 197 has many advantages over the 172 cup, 172 cups are great cars don't get me wrong, but the 197 is brand new, has all the mod cons and will be comfortabely as fast round a track, maybe even faster.

I thought so to pending the release of the new Clio as sufficient reserves of RS's are held?

looking better is a matter of opinion, but I hate the 197! IIRC most people voted for the 172/182 over the 197 on looks poll.

Faster - yes. Power to weight ratio is 158 bhp/ton. The 172 cup coming in at 170bhp/ton.

Admittedly the 197 will be more refined, but lets be honest, you don't buy a clio if you want refined.

  197 and mini one
All i gotta say to this is 'WOW OMFG', they are awesome to drive, i was out for 30 mins and i was knackered. The grip is phenomenal. My dad took it out after and he said he felt it gripped better than a scooby that he had a test drive in a bit back. This has just made my 2 week wait even more painful now,

Every aspect about it is awesome, the pick up, grip, steering feedback, the whole lot is well as you can see it exceeded all my expectations. When your just cruising along, its just saying to you 'go on, you know you wana floor it'. i see why they put a speed limiter on them now!!!

Watch out for an Albi Blue cupped 197 on an 09 plate around the wolverhampton area....

ill look out for it around wolverhampton. look out for my black one in the cannock area.

Can I ask why you didnt consider a R26? Did you drive one of them too? I only ask as there pretty much in the same price bracket.

  Was a 197
After all the time the megane II has been out i'm still not a fan of the styling, yes i know the R26 is a different proposition but i didn't fancy it anyway slightly out of my price range as well

  Was a 197
how long did you have the car for?

i drove it from warrington into liverpool and my dad drove it back as he's having ones as well!!! about 30mins each it was, it was a nice stretch of motorway and a mixture of urban and suburban roads

Thats because most people on here have 172/182's.... they vote for their own cars

Now, i've had a 172 Cup, and had my 197 for a year now. There is no difference, the 197 is not slow as you put it. In fact just going by book times the 197 has a quicker 0-62mph time...... Also i out dragged a cup off here, and yes he was trying ;)

I didn't say slow, I said slower!
Don't go by book times, they're just poo tbh.
It's all about the power to weight ratio as I posted above. The one you raced was probably down on power, French cars aren't known for making their true power output!

This isnt a 172 cup v 197 thread mate. This is exactly how they get started and threads ruined.

If he'd of wanted a 172 cup he would have bought one, he didn't he got a 197 because its a new car, the most up to date rs clio etc

If you have nothing good to say about his purchase......
