Andyrg turbo conversion opinions

It's more our of interest at this stage, so I don't want to take up his time ;) Was just interested in a ballpark figure...

Later in the year though, will be a different story. But Mr Woodford is already prepped for some guidance / work.

When the flamer is boosted / charged you are welcome to borrow it Bobert - @Rob

I think it's great more and more clio's are being reliably charged / boosted and hats off to Andy for playing a role in that!

Andy's the man when it comes to turbo clios for sure! :hail:

Helped me many times over the phone.

It seems he is the man :D

One thing i will say, he has been very helpful so far, and if i do decide to go ahead with boosting the clio, it will definitely be with Andy :)

The sooner the better :D

  PH1 loads of boost!
How do the standard boxes and clutches do when greeted with an angry turbo out of interest?

With a bit of mechanical sympathy the gearbox's are fine up to about 350/320 which is about what most of the high boost ones make. Some people have the mid range mapped out to help the gearbox cope but that's just for the gays.
The helix 4 paddle is more than capable of coping with high boost. A good condition standard clutch is good enough to hold on to low boost.

I've got lots of respect for Andy, top fella.

With regards to my turbo (which wasn't an Andy conversion) I've found that I kill less boxes than I did in the past with high revving throttle body engines. The boxes seem to hate rpm but are less fragile than I expected with boost.

afaik the standard clutch is good enough for a low boost conversion....

I have to say from personal experience this isnt correct. My 172 Cup turbo was running around 230-240bhp. It was peaking at around 10-11psi holding around 6psi. Had Fred @ BTM fit a brand new Valeo clutch which started to slip after covering around 2,000 miles. If youre going turbo you really do need to uprate the clutch based on my personal experience.

That seems a good price, I expected it to be a bit more. Go in happy, leave like a Cheshire Cat :)

What's the next natural step after you turbo your car?

Do you crave more & more power, spend more £££s until it fails catastrophically?

Or do you live with it for a while then sell the car at a hefty loss and move away from a Clio and into something more luxurious (/mundane)?

If I had the money I'd seriously consider giving the Trophy a bit of boost, but I'm not sure if I'd regret it, financially speaking.

Clutch wise, have the majority of guys with low boost turbo had any clutch issues with standard? I'm seriously considering changing mine to something a little more heavy duty, not sure if it needs it though??

  big boost cup
My standard clutch was fine at low boost. Died when I went high boost. Also my cars going up to Andy for ecu and a new loom

As said above, mine went straight away from new so i would advise it personally

  Trophy Turbo :)
My opinion always is if the engine is out then whats a few more quid upgrading a clutch, especially if the cars close to 90k. :) It doesnt cost any more labour when i do it.

Fitting a stock clutch to a turbo car just isnt the right things to do!! :)

What clutch would you recommend for low boost Andy?

  172 Cup Turbo
My turbo conversion was done at 92k on the original clutch, it has since had 10k in 6 months as a daily driver which I upset quite a few 'bigger cars' the clutch is still fine on 102k , just shows the clutches on low boost can hold up, on my build this winter though CG motorsport have done me a plate for £120 :)

Oh and I've not met him yet but from talking to Andy... he knows his stuff and always wanting to help people out :)

  HBT 172 Cup
It depends on the torque level i think tbh. I had mine mapped on low boost on the rollers was fine on the rollers. Hit the road and within about 2 minutes anything past 4k in 3rd and it slipped, and this was on a failry new clutch. It had to be toned down, that was aprently ~240ft lb.
