Cheers. Will see what he replies. They are up for a bit more but that's where I'd want to pay. Failing that I may get them new. The PS3 are great as we all know but looking at tracking it hence the change. I'm thinking the 180 may before suitable as an allrounder?

I have been running the 120 for the past year, done seven trackdays this year so far, no problems at all.

What would you recommend for a ring trip? If I was going to drive there have a day or two on track and drive home. If not I'll trailer it and stick my spare sets of wheels in the van and just use what suits the weather when I'm there. Was just thinking of using my PS3 as they're a decent road tyre and was always told treat the ring like a fast A road/country lane type drive as you never know what's coming round the corner lol. Was leaning more towards trailer it as I can take spares and tools etc like a track day.

I used PS3 on my last day at Oulton and it was damp with on off rain they were fine ended up on my 888 in the afternoon as it dried out, not tried them in proper wet conditions yet but I have 2 sets of rim's with tyres on at the min the PS3 and Toyo 888 so if it rains I'll be using the PS3 unless I get some Rainsport (or some other if anyone recomends wet weather tyres) for the spare set of OZ F1 in the shed with no tyre's. I was hoping to keep a decent set of road tyres as a) I use the car on road now and again and b) if I go the Ring next year I want some decent all round tyres as the weather can be so different around the track apparently.

Last year I drove there and back on my R888s, I'll do the same next spring.

An update for anyone interested, I had been using RS-Rs (140) and changed to NS-2R (180) two track days ago.
I had been generally happy with the federals apart from what I found to be soft sidewalls, Shoulder wear when pushing hard but good grip. Two track days ago I swapped to Nankangs, it was wet and they were epic, so much confidence they allowed me to stay on track when others pulled in, then on Sunday it was a scorcher..... I ran them at 27psi cold and had a great feeling all day, a bit squeally if that's even a word but they felt fantastic with no odd wear, my lap times were down on what I had been doing though which I found odd, I had ASTs fitted this time too!
888s next time out :fearscream:

I take it that the laps were slower on the NS2-Rs? What kind of times have you had out of the various tyres you have tried? I admit that they feel like a great tyre on my RST. It has certainly impressed a few people that I have taken out in it!

If you have the PS3s I'd use them :). Otherwise I'd recommend the NS-2Rs or AD08Rs. FWIW at a trackday at Cadwell I was managing to go past a 205 GTI shod with AD08Rs in my Clio with ContiSport5s (they were great around the track!) that were nearly worn down to 2-3mm, and with T1-Rs on the rear ; the back end was lively that day and the ESP light was flashing away at me!

However, it was throwing it down with rain!

Yes, slightly slower. Taking RS-Rs as the standard as they're what I used most, the Nankangs were about 1.5s slower, 888s about almost second faster on a 1.5 mile circuit. The Nankangs were the 180 compounds though, not tried 120s, doubt I'll stray from 888s now though

888's may be quicker over a few laps but anything above that the RSR imo are far better. I'm no racing driver but doing 15-20 mins stints, they were spot on

How strange. The 888 were in 195, the rsr were in 205. I currently have 195/45/16 and more than likely rather than buying 15" wheels I will opt for the rsr

Hey guys,

Can someone list the best places to look for 215/45/17 track tyres new please?
A summary of different tyres and average prices would be really useful too :)

Thanks in advance!

It varies all over the shop and sometimes from day to day TBH, mytyres, tyreleader, camskill, oponeo, even Demon Tweaks can have some good deals from time to time (OK, not that often, but it happens ;) )

Price range is anywhere from circa £150 a corner down to about £70 a corner depending on brand and grip level.

Personally in that size at the high end price wise I'm liking the Pilot Sport Cup 2 a lot at the moment, reviews I've seen suggest it outgrips the 888R and lasts a lot longer too. I like the NS2-R as it's very progressive and excellent value although not the grippiest. Really it depends what you want - tyres with lower grip can be more fun as the limit is easier to find and play with but will obviously be slower.

If you really want to go mental I'm flogging a set of wheels with slicks on them ;)

I bought a set of Toyo T1R's and took them to Knockhill on Saturday. I also took my worn out R888's. I did about 10 laps on the T1R's and then took them off again to stick my old tyres on.
Night and day, the R888's were much better and helped the car stick to the track with miles better times.
I'm going to buy more R888's or maybe try the new R888R's.

Comparing T1-R's to 888's is like saying your M3 is faster than your 316 Compact.

Ns2-r vs 595 rs-r ?

I really fancied(fancy) a set of RSRs but I've just bought a set of wheels with two* ns2-RS fitted.

If the nangkangs are in decent Nick, do I buy another two to make a matching set or do I sell them on for a full set of federals?

*who runs a car with just two semi slicks?! No wonder the car was binned lol. Conti5s on two and ns2-RS on the other two. Eejit.

Does knock hill let you record times?

Oulton and blyton don't like that.

No timing on any track days.

Everyone does though and it has it's good and bad sides. Mostly people trying to go faster and faster without the progressive build up or experience.

I just use it for consistency.

What do you record with? A timer or do you do it passively using the go pro footage?

Are you booked on at oulton on the 15th?

And are you coming on the Welsh drive on the 2nd?

Unsure whether to do one more track day on this 888, concerned about the blueing, opinions?
bin time?

I was under the impression that the bluing is just the oils coming out of the tyre when they get hot. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but they shouldn't be binned for the discolouration.

Don't worry about it, I've raced on worse than that.
Or if you are that bothered, then get them swapped around on the rims, so it's on the inside.
