I'd go to Birchdown near Malpas. Up to you on the belts, depends if you believe him, and where did he say it was done.

Craig in APD near Swansea is the closest in south-wales to my knowledge.

Although most people say take it to fred which is about 2 hour drive max from cardiff ish.

Nobody uses tipex that does a good job I've seen loads like this and the timing is wrong and the belt needs changing

  clio 172
but timming is ok runs tidy no running faults ticks off as it should power is there thou the gears i got the felling when i seen the marks that some cowboy add is hands on it gutted but thourt it would be fine as is runs spot on .so u say to get it done again guys ?can i use the same belt and pullys or get new again ?

Replace the full kits too, both cambelt and aux belt kits, can almost guarantee the aux kit wont have been changed!

u say the timming is way out but iv raced my mates 172 and i pull on him like a train thou the gears my 172 is much faster both thou the gears and top end also raced a 182 and there was no diffrence at all so i cnt see the timming being out at all i know the way its been done is not the right way but there is a chance the person that did do did now wot he was doing .. if it was down on power then i think good they fucked this up but it pulls very well and it tops out 145 ish easy

get it checked anyway, i went passed a lambo gallardo superleggera on track in a broken 172 running only 145bhp with 2 brave pills and some heroic driving, i didn't even realise it was broken!

  clio 172
but i raced him a few times from standing start and pulled from 2nd gear and pulled 3 cars on him all the way thou the gears its going to cost loads to just check and i really dnt think it needs doing il take it for a rolling road on tuesday and seee wot it makes and let u all now as it cheaper then getting timming checked and easyer way to find out

on your head be it, you can't f**k about with these engines, i know, i spend 50% of my time fixing other peoples **** ups with timing and belt change issues, you got £1300 for a head rebuild?

I was quoted £50 from NWP for a timing check, that including cam caps, id be personally getting it checked if your saying the guy may have used tipex to change the belt, cant be done this way on these cars, needs specialist tools and some experience to do the job

Arent they always a bit torquier when the belt is out though? Probably explains why pulling on your mates 172!

NWP is near manchester bit to far from you i think, Craig@apd is your best bet hes in located in wales, common problems of incorrect timing is lumpy idle, cutting out e.t.c

You cant use anything like that, you need to use the correct cam locking tools, search on here about botched cam belt jobs, pages of horror stories, people going to garages who dont know what there doing and having the wrong equipment

i know wot your say buddy wot wot im trying to say is if it was not done with the right lock off tools i cant see now way of the timming being right and i got no lumpy tick off no cutting out and it been running for 18000 miles so im thinking he must of done it right ?

fella, change the belts. you got a good deal and why not make sure its right? you've been answered in here by the best Renault specialists in the UK, they know what they are talking about.

thats why i sent my car to have its belts done even when there was no sign of worry. it turned out they were 0ver 90 degree out on a car that seemed fine. the internals were ready to eat themselves.

but if not you plod on racing about and topping out at 145 mph... lol

Sounds like he charged to do it,put some marks near the right places and left it alone.Just a thought.
