The 519 172

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
So...after 2 years of ownership and 18 months on throttle bodies as a daily driver, the RSIder was finally nearing the end of it's life

so when I was offered a nice tidy monaco blue 172 with a knocking engine, I saw an opportunity to have a bit of fun

After an interesting arse clenching drive back from Milton Keynes, I managed not to stick a rod out the block, so pulled it all apart so see what the extent of the damage was

the story wasn't great, every journal on the crank scored, and the insides if the engine looked like the oil had been in there a very very very long time.

So, the plan at this point is a standard rebuild, some ARP rod bolts, a set of cams and some matched inlets.

oh, what the hell, lets do some port work and enlarge exhaust ports to ph1 size

On the phone to jenvey for a manifold and adaptors to fit DCOE's onto an SF manifold, then do a bit of drilling, tapping and matching

Some more detailing, coil mounted on the end of the head and loom run under the bodies to keep things tidy

Definitely in need of a nice new shorter rad though, and luckily the RSIder donated it's Pacet fan which is a perfect fit

It lives!!!!

It's no longer a dusty bus hidden away haha. This has reminded me I need to ring you about doing my cambelt at the at the end of the month. How do you fancy doing two R27's in the same day? ;)

  172 cup RS2 - 330ci
Been keeping an eye out for this to come up, can't wait for the results from the dyno ;)

  No car
Wow, looks niiiiice dan! Proper sleeper! Anymore plans? Need to come and see you about the emissions light and electrical fault! I'll give you a ring when I get my work rota!

nice, the mk1 looked cool too with the ozs

what was wrong with it?

The mk1 was actually OK, but lots of small things which added up to a tatty car, based on a 1.8 8v that was already a cat C. Needed new bumper, bonnet, arches, a full respray and being narrow track with crappy castor angles, the handling wasn't ever quite up to scratch. Also ran 238mm brakes, which keeps you on your toes with 185bhp

the wheels will make their way onto the 172 in the not too distant future.

does look a tidy monaco that. Nice work Dan. Is this staying standardish?

it'll be a daily driver, so full interior and generally "nice", but there's more to come in several areas

Looks good what cams are you running?

421s, bought them aaaaaages ago when I was looking at phase 1's

I like it, interested to see what it makes.... Get some 15's on there and some lowz.

already in the pipeline. the F1's are going on with a set of new tyres, and of course it's going to receive a lovely set of SPAX trackday coilovers

The mk1 also fkn shifted

after seeing the figures yours put out, I can't believe the distance I pulled on you :D

  Clio 172 & others!
Looking good! As said before, I'm sure I'll be asking for the same treatment for my Clio! My brother can't wait to pick his Megane up. Top bloke, thumbs up!

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
Few loose ends and bit of tidying done

Behemoth of a filter to fit over the long trumpets
IMAG0145.jpg

Had an adaptor made for the original loom to the TPS. No cutting wires here
IMAG0147.jpg

GEN90 ECU plugged straight in, and mounted to the original bracketry

Thanks :)

Also fitted some nice new Pagid OE replacement disks and pads, to rid my life of greenstuff, and spent a while adjusting the SPAX coilovers.
Also ordered a set of tyres for the OZ F1's so they'll be going on soon.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
looking good Danny, does it run smoother now :). Looked good when I was up there a while ago.

it's silky smooth, drives like standard when you want it to, and takes off like a beast when you need it to :D

Need final map tweaks then I'll put some graphs up. It's quick ;)

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
Lovely job there Dan:)

What tyres have you chosen for the F1's? Got a track day in mind yet?

Trying some Hankooks, although I've got enough meat on some Paradas for track day at Bedford on 26th, so they'll go on after that
