Im currently playing War Thunder at the moment and enjoying it,just wanted to see if there are any other good Tank Games out there that you can recommend apart from War Thunder and World of Tanks.

I like playing the mix of arcade/strategy type of play where i can upgrade parts and tanks.

M1 Tank Platoon, back in the halcyon days of Microprose and the Amiga! Played that through and through - getting each crew in each tank of my platoon up to elite status. Multiple times!

Other than that, I used to be fairly good with the tanks in BF2142 - especially the hover tank.

These days however as a genre, it's woefully ignored. The likes of WoT are ok to an extent, but they lack the tactical and technical depth to make them truly enjoyable. Likewise, having a 60-point startup procedure simply to get the tank rolling, would put off a LOT of players in a high end simulation.

If they could create a semi accurate Tiger tank sim - that saw the likes of the Battle of Kursk, I'd be in my element.

What about a good war strategy game?
How in-depth do you actually want to go?

Some of the SSI/Matrix Games titles are serious heavy-hitters - but these are aimed for pure strategy first, looks and feel second. Titles such as War in the Pacific : Admiral's Edition - http://www.matrixgames.com/products/351/details/War.in.the.Pacific.-.Admirals.Edition - are as full-on as you can get. Steam has a few more less 'highbrow' titles that might be of interest....

Panzer Tactics HD - http://store.steampowered.com/app/218620/
Panzer Corps - http://store.steampowered.com/app/268400/Panzer_Corps/

If you want more involvement from a strategy perspective, but without the realism - there are the likes of CoH2 (which you've already got) and there's the new Steel Division : Normandy 44 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/572410/Steel_Division_Normandy_44/ - which looks pretty good to me. It's based on the previous Wargame series by Eugen Systems, so if you're not a fan of that game formula, I doubt you'll like this either.

No worries.

If you find a genre that you like, it's scary just how much it will pull you in and time simply vanishes. I'm a big fan of Larry Bond's Harpoon series (http://www.matrixgames.com/products/325/details/Larry.Bonds.Harpoon.-.Commanders.Edition) and used to play a lot of the original version on the Amiga. They even did a more stylised hardcore version that was utilised in officer training for the US Navy - it can get that in-depth.

When you get the strategy 'right' and see the events unfolding in front of you, it brings a bigger sense of reward than coming top of a COD leaderboard could ever do, imo. You can't put your success down to good reactions or the benefit of a good internet connection. You've actually thought through the next couple of steps - almost like chess on steroids - and seeing it work on screen is as fun as it is addictive.

Quite a few missions in Harpoon hold great gaming memories for me. Fortress Reykjavik was one in particular where the Russians held that place as a major military base. They also had long range support from their bases in the Kola Peninsula. NATO had a fleet out in the North Atlantic and bases in the UK. Sending in a few strike aircraft at wave height to take out the AA radars and effectively make the Reds blind was tense - especially as you start to see that weapons range circle of your aircraft, just start to creep over Reykjavik.

It's current incarnation is Command : Modern Air Naval Operations (http://www.matrixgames.com/products....Naval.Operations.Wargame.of.the.Year.Edition) - but keep an eye out for Steam sales as straight from the Matrix website, it is stupidly expensive!
