Speeding up VPN

In the office we have:

Router: BT 2701 HGV-C
Switch: Netgear GS116
Speed: 17mb down, 1mb up

Within the office we can share files/access our local CRM database flawlessly.

When anyone logs in from outside (whether it be VPN or accessing our CRM via an IP address URL), they have incredibly slow connections.

Anything I can do, to improve the speed they can access our office?

Yeah get a connection that has more than 1mb up LOL

Internally you will be getting 17mbps download - but through VPN everything has to be tunneled through that 1mb upload bandwidth.
Really not suitable at all for VPN - you need cable or fibre optic with 10-20mb+ upload speeds

What's the solution?

Host our CRM/shared files elsewhere with a fast connection?

So it's more likely the broadband speed rather than equipment?

Definitely broadband issue.

Either host the files on a server in the cloud or get a better internet connection in the office.

There's always things you can do about it. You can get a dedicated business line run to the office.
I ran server-client solutions over dedicated cables 15years ago. It's even easier and cheaper these days.
But yeah if you don't want the overhead of having a dedicated line then host the CRM somewhere else.

You can have your servers hosted for you, or you could migrate to a cloud CRM like salesforce (most seem to use this these days, I hate it, but that's a different story lol)

If windows environment and you host the CRM internally, install Remote Desktop Services server? use the Remoteapp for remote users to use the CRM.

Depends on the CRM of course, we have several CRMs which are not recommended to be used via a VPN connection, plus other database like software eg: Sage is not recommended via VPN so RDP is an efficient way to use the software remotely and is low on bandwidth use.

Depends how many users you got working remotely. you could put in a dedicated ADSL connection just for RDP use, you could support upto 10 users on a 1mb upload ADSL.

Longy, we're using Sage ACT 2013 (for web).

The web users' connections are ridiculously slow. They aren't VPN-ing in, they are just accessing the IP via the browser.
