RS Clio Revisions

  Ziel Nurburgring

Good thing?

Should they revise them like Evos? Or should it be left as is like the CTR/LCRs with minimal revisions during the life of the model? E.g.

RSC-

Ph1 172

Ph1 172 Exclusive (Cosmetic)

Ph2 172

Ph2 172 Cup

Ph2 182

Ph2 182 cup

Ph2 182 Trophy

CTR

Pre & Post Face Lift

Good question. The CTR also had an anniversary special edition and the final versions have some changes also, so 4 in all.

You could also consider in comparison the examples of Impreza derivatives or the annual BMW/Porsche/Mercedes engine changes

dont they do it to maintain interest within a brand??, a product life cycle thingy, bring out new revisions so that sales dont flop?

Exactly, revsions and facelifts are (at the end of the day)made to improve sales.

Sometimes the changes are traditional and made to boost brand image.

problem with subaru and engine changes, from their models, non-turbo, turbo, wrx, rb5, p1, there are a massive difference in performance between them, in 5 years the clio has only managed to gain 10PS and a little torque, various suspension changes, which IMHO havent changed the car that much, yes made it better, but not exactly a massive improvement (will comment further after tomorrows trophy TD)

though, as above, its all about flagging cars sales when it comes to a budget supermini, lets face it, the clio doesnt exactly carry a status with it being a budget car, its french, which as we know, generally means poor build quality, reliability and awful customer service. in all honesty, to make more people interested in the clio, they ave to make newer revisions, even if its not much of an improvement, solely to attract more sales

look at how many people have upgraded from p1 to p2 and from full fat to cup to 182. Its brilliant marketing and something that renault are incredibly good at. Thats by no means a dig, the marketing guys at renault must be amongst the best in the industry. How many CTR owners would have upgraded to CTRs within effectively the same model cycle??

imho there have been too many changes with the RS Clio.

People start to question whether they should buy, whether they should wait or whether they should go else where.

I have always thought that the clio should be in a supermini catagory to be honest.

The fact that it is matched against such big powered hot-hatches is a testament to its character

^^ top comment, which bears out the marketing strategy and product positioning once again. Were comparing a 13k supermini to Jap stuff thats massively more expensive here.

Mike/Ian, this wasnt about which is better or which is quicker, it was a question about whether Renault should continue with the revisions they make on the current one or leave the car alone like Honda did.

How many people would be wanting to buy the next generation RS but would rather wait til the ph2, cup, trophy or whatever model is the best available. It certainly doesn;t inspire me to be first in line to have my name down.
