As I mentioned in another thread, we have been testing to see if the Rockford Fosgate Punch 500x is stable under a 2ohm mono load this weekend...something that it shouldnt do but will give around 8 - 900watts RMS if it works. The amp is £175 by the way.
We tested using a FUEL CD at 40Hz, 50Hz and 70Hz for 20 minutes solid on various sub combinations to check if the amp shut down or went into protection. We also tried a music track off the same CD for another 20 minutes straight after the first set of tests making it a 40 minute high volume test.
We also used 2 different cars. One was our demo Clio using an Optima battery and one was a Corsa using a standard Vauxhall battery. In all cases I would suggest using an upgraded battery as a fair bit of current is drawn and the Corsa had problems with undercurrent on some heavy bass tests.

All in all, not a bad test record. The 500x can definately stand up to prolonged usage at 2ohms mono. It is more at home with lower powered or more efficient subs but will take most things. Very high powered subs like the Resonant Engineering HC12s or JLW7s wont be a good option for it though.
