My 182 is nearly 10 years old..

  RS Clio 182
So my 182 is 10 years old in march,on 87k miles and its coming up to its 2nd belt change...im just considering selling it for a couple of grand now,or pay 600 quid to get belts and dephaser done...obviously if i do that im really hoping it can run for a few more years as its such a fun car to have. But then theres the other dilemma that i might be paying more and more as it gets even older.

Just wanting some opinions and if anyone is in a similar position?

£600?!?!?!

Christ mate, where are you taking it?

im in same boat with my 172, had it 10-11 years, cambelts due in next jan. But its still feels like it always has. Odd extra rattle i need to find but apart from that cant fault it.

But each time i look at cars i kinda just think well what do i get extra and its not allot lol. Plus servicing and replacing parts on these have good guides and are fairly straight forward

Depend what the cars like, if it wants for nothing apart from the belts and your happy with it for a couple more years then I'd get the belts done.

If it's a nail, then maybe it's worth punting it off, only you will know the anser.

Thing is aswell, what do you replace it with? How do you know that won't need £600+ spending on it once you've got it?

Better the devil you know and all thet.

Full belt service plus dephaser pulley at a specialist in doncaster. Its a fair price tbf...the pulley really needs replacing as my engine sounds well rough, like a diesel..

b****cks, sorry mate. I missed that you needed the dephaser doing too.

It's a fair sum then...but if you trust the car and still enjoy it then I say keep it and get the work done. I've sold my Trophy and miss the thing every day.

If you still enjoy driving it then I would get the belts done.

I spent around £1,500 getting my 172 fixed/sorted last year.

yeah i know you can generally run these things into the ground, just worried if anything else crops up after the belt change due to the age of the car. Think i will feel much better when i get the actual belts sorted and the engine sounds a lot better than it does now!

No brainer guys i say run them till they die! Unless you go for something a lot newer you'll more or less always have something to solve! Plus you'll feel empty inside if you part the them!

Mine's 14 years old this year and over 200,000 miles. What do I replace it with, I ask myself? Unless I develop deep pockets I can't see other cars I'd really want (newer cars are full of stuff and gadgets that I don't want).

I'm in the same position, my 182 is on 74k and 10 yrs old this March. My gearbox isn't the best at high revs, could do with a refurb most probably. Also I need Cambelt/Dephaser and Aux belt doing so probably talking 1.5k of work all in to get it 100%. I will get the work done though because the rest of the car is mint and fully sorted, I can't afford another car that does all the 182 does, an everyday pocket rocket that I think I actually love!lol. With all work done I'd expect another 5 yrs out of it so it seems worth it! :D

Thats the problem i'm having, but I really don't want to have been driving a Clio for 15 years. I have decided to go for something different a Scoob Legacy spec b. Its in a different universe to a Clio, but I will miss it when its gone. It just doesn't make financial sense to be spending £2k keeping a french car up to date. I don't have to money to keep 2 cars keeping one insured, taxed, mot'd, serviced is bad enough.

I'm thinking the same about mine at the moment. Got its MOT soon so see what the brings up and if fine I will do all the belts and keep her for another 2 years.

My 182 is 10 years old IIRC around August time, so i'm treating it to a new cambelt kit, waterpump, aux belt, clutch, oh and a supercharger :D

They are not worth that much these days and if you still enjoy it then it's worth spending the money on it and keeping it.

If you sell it without the belts being done then its worth naff all anyway.

You have to remember the part prices fluctuate so there's no set price. I paid more than that last year but it was well worth it and I won't hesitate to get it done for as many years as I own it. I love the way it drives and everything else I get in feels so numb to drive compared to it. It all comes down to wether you enjoy driving it and if you want to keep it. It may be 10 years old but that's only a number. Until a car gets released that tops the smiles per miles of the clio I'll continue sinking money into it.

I have to agree with this! It's 10 years old but still looks quite modern and I love how mine drives other than the gearbox.. They are just great cars to be fair! :D

Thanks for the comments...yeah il probably go ahead with the belt change and hope she lasts another couple of years! I agree theres not much out there in terms of bang for your buck..such a great car to drive.

A quick question....is the heater fans or demister part of an MOT and can it fail if they dont work?

  RS Clio 182
Well ive booked it in 2 weeks from now,for both belts & dephaser.

Does anyone know what you actually get in the 2nd belt change service? Do they check all the oil, filters etc. as in a normal service?

Easily got more on her yet, mines clicked 166k recently and drives a peach. Although power steering is beginning to feel a little lazy so may need new pump!

I just bought a headlight renovation kit as they are looking really tired and cloudy now - hopefully will make a big difference.

Takes a bit of patience but they come up decent with some elbow grease! Did mine few years back but need doing again now, lol!
