Liquid yellow 182 - Thinking of buying

  06 LY 182
Hi all,

Looks like I might finally make the jump from the blue oval after 4 Fords!

I have found a 2006 liquid yellow 182 at a dealership, but it's advertised at £7995. Is it me, or is that overpriced buy about £2000?? It's got 43k miles on it and looks in good condition in the photos. I'm going to look at it tonight.

I currently drive a 2008 Zetec S fiesta (old shape) Red Edition with only 9900 miles on the clock, so I'm hoping I can work out a straight swap for it.

Do I haggle that 2k off with the dealer immediately or what?

Thanks in advance

Col

If he takes 2k off i'll be very surprised.

And you know you won't get 8k for your fiesta.

LY does command a premium, but that's too much. You won't get £2k off.

Aim for under just under £7k and see if you get any luck.

  LY 200
It is overpriced but only by a k if its spotless/ready to go (no pending brake/tyre changes, services etc)!

Thats more than likely not the case though with the car being a 2006! That means you can knock 500 quid on (at least) for the big cambelt service too!

  06 LY 182
Well, I'm hoping for somewhere between £6500 and £7000 for the Fiesta, and hoping he can work something out for me.

The fact you're the buyer puts you in a good position, he obviously wants to sell so you never know how desperate he'll get, should have waited till the end of the month! ;)

If it's a Renault dealership they will more than likely cut a deal on your cam/aux service rather than knock the money off. I guarantee it. But if it's a Renault you can expect to pay 1k for that service through them.

They might be more 'generous' as it were trading yours in if you're taking one off them. See what the price for yours sits at through Glasses guide, etc. and go in with a figure around that price in your head.

And as per Gally, wait till the end of the month as he'll been keen to hit his target if he hasn't already.

Glass' guide books yours about £7100 trade in. I'm guessing the red edition is special?

Funnily enough i've never heard of it but you could explain to the guy it commands a premium over normal zetec s'.

I googled I found.

Bit similar to the green/yellow anniversary isn't it?

  06 LY 182
Yes, very similar but a few extras over it. Heated windscreen, electric mirrors, full leather interior, privacy glass, A/C.

They built 400 yellow, 400 green, and 400 red.

I just hope he can do a deal for me.

When is the cam/aux belt change usually due? Will be something to bear in mind. States full service history so I'll expect other things to be up to date etc.

  Barge
5 years will come before 72k though mate.

Depending when it was registered it'll be due some point next year and 1k is a fair old chunk through a Renault dealer.

Granted traders on here offer their services for a lot less.

£7995 is kinda expensive, but it is a dealer so they will probably have a huge markup. I'd just try your luck mate. They want to sell, you want to buy. You may end up getting a decent deal.

Good luck

Okay. Thanks for all the responses so far, much appreciated.

Will let everyone know how I get on tonight.

cambelt will cost just over 600 at renault just had a qoute, price is high but i reakon they would go down to 7.5k, then just say for that price ya want cam/aux belt done and new tyres.

Not true. I got quotes for Cam and Aux belt change through Renault and it was just shy of 1k. Naturally, you'd try a selection of dealers or specialist too when you actually need it doing.

The 1k cost is a bargaining tool for him to work with. Or like you said, ask for it to be done as part of the deal.

Didn't ask them. That was the price from E.H Sunderland. I'd never get it done there in a million years, I asked their price so I could get money off. Don't patronise me for being a female!

But to the OP, if you buy it, get your cam/aux done through one of the traders or try round a few dealers for prices!

I wasn't patronising any1 thanks, it's fact if sum1 walks in who they think they can take advantage of they will. That's the motor trade they do it with young lads aswell.

Hi all,

Back from the dealer. Wants my car (£7100) + £550. Will sleep on it and call him in the morning. Was very happy with the car after a short test drive. Seems fully loaded, has an upgraded exhaust system and upgraded front discs(Brembo). Still feels pretty tight. He advised me that the cam belt change is at 60k though....

His deal is a service that is due and an extended 6 month warranty.

What do you guys think?

Id leave it myself :)

The service book will indicate that it's 5 years or 72k chap.

Still think it's overpriced for the miles otc. But I guess you're paying a premium for the LY. 6 months warranty could be a god send if it turns out you buy a shed (not saying it is one, but just in case).

I think it's a bit high. Go back to the dealer and tell him what you think, in a few days he might get back to you with a better deal.

This is the one with the colour coded insert on the rear bumper is it?

Sure that was an 06 plate and over in Ireland!

As said its 72k or 5 years for the cambelt mate so will be due next year regardless of milage (i had my one done at 28k).

If it was me, (I only bought mine back in October)

If its the one you want, then try haggle him to your car + £350 and see where that gets you whilst taking the service and warranty

Make sure the Auxbelt has been done already (36k)

Then use that £200 towards a cambelt change for around Christmas time. Just be prepared to walk if he doesnt come down on the deal a little bit though

Col! Ino which one u are looking at... I was going to view it before I bought mine... Make sure u check the rear bumper.. Etc as it looks abit dodgy that the rear plastic Insert is yellow when meant to be black. I also was put off with it as it was over priced!

I'd hold out if I were you.

Thanks guys. Just want the right car, and this seems like it. Not a mark on any of the wheels, interior seems good, seats are fine. Well looked after example.

Hmmm interesting. Thanks for that bit of info. Could have had damage before then? Not sure if someone would have just decided to colour code it given the cost of matching the paint....

A rattle can will be cheap, so it's not that. Just some people do it, people with no sense of style, but still people do it.

It's too much really. If you could do a straight swap then it's a better deal but having to pay £550 on top of your car is excessive.

Hold out something doesn't seem quite right, try posting some pics of it up here if you can get any then the advice will storm through.
Keep an eye out in the for sales section on here, as its a 1*2 you've got your heart set on then the membership fee isn't any drama.
Just to give you an idea i got cambelt, aux belt and water pump done locally at a renault specialist for £500 however you will get better offers from the traders on here, if your lucky same as i paid plus a service depending on the offers they have on atm.

  Barge
Rear bumper does look a slight shade different, and I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of colour coding the rear bump strip.

Probably had damage to the rear at some point, whether that be a knock or maybe had a scuff, etc.

It might not show on a HPI either if it wasn't done via insurance. Just check the boot floor for creases. :)

Typical CH. They are not the greatest dealers on the planet. Car is way overpriced, especially, as the cam belt hasn't been done.

There is a trophy for sale privately in NI at the minute, advertised on CS for £7.5, has only 38k miles and has the belts done.

If I were you, I would be haggling that down to around 7k and selling ur st privately.

  06 LY 182
Really I want to stay with a dealer, I don't think I would sell my ZS quickly tbh. I'm offering just my car or I'm walking away.

Your best bet is to buy one on the mainland. Flight + Ferry back over only costs £150 or so.

If you find any around Kent/Essex that's not too far away, I'm happy to go check it out for you first also.

Check out pistonheads too, for example...

No splitter, dodgy rear bumper, and insultingly overpriced - LY or otherwise. That's Trophy money near enough.

I'd tell him to go f**k himself.
