@pule333 the passenger footrest you bought is from Ralloy a big name in the mk2 escort historic rallying scene. Only 10miles from me ordered this morning delivered him self this afternoon. Thanks for pointing me in that direction ?

With your cabin cold air feed have you not considered a roof scoop? To direct cool air to your face ?

I am glad it’s a good brand :) quality can’t be faulted. Good welds.
Regarding the scoop. I absolutely hate those silly snorkels.. it’s not a bloody submarine! Not come across the one I like yet. Will see how this performes. If cooling not adequate, I will run another tube from under drivers side light through the wing and into the cockpit. If that fails, I will get an electric blower.. and if that’s not enough and I would feel like I need a steady stream of flies and my face, I will consider the roof scoop.. ?[emoji851]

I've just fitted the snorkel you talk of, I get you. It's not aesthetically pleasing to look at at all, but it's functional and there to do a job.

If it make me more comfortable on track in the heat then so be it.

Don't know why but when I look at the ducting from the vents in the windows I just think 'DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER!!'
hahaha the resemblance is uncanny! but for those who were born in the 90th here is the clip to help you understnad hahahah

There are more subtle options out there. You could go for one like this (which looks very much like the Ford Group A one for the Escort):

IMG_2232.jpg

Or always go for a flap, as on the Impreza:

SpecC-RoofVent_062.jpg

The Group A Clio 16v/Williams/Maxi had something similar. I have seen replicas for sale online somewhere:

I'm not sure how effective the vents in the rear window will be to be honest, though I guess some GT cars use them. The roof vent in my Escort is really handy though, makes a big difference.

Thank you for sending this. Yes the more subtle versions are much better.
The vents I have are Naca ducts. They are actualy very very effective as they suck the air rather than ram it in like a conventional scoop. I read a big case study on it. They flow about 55% of the traditional scoop. But have much smoother flow of air and don’t leave nasty wake of turbulent air and drag. And since I have a pair it’s like having a conventional duct +10% [emoji851]. So in theory, they will work rather well for my allocation, considering fresh air will come from both sides of the drivers seat base.
I am also considering fitting a big f**k off wing on the rear. Don’t ask me why I just love big ass wings! And defo don’t want drag of the scoop hinder the effectiveness of the wing. So actualy considering fitting another dual naca duct in the roof.

I certainly wouldn't argue against the effectiveness of the naca ducts, but I do wonder if the length/shape of the tubing might reduce the amount of air you feel in the cabin. Only time will tell though. It will be interesting to see how they work in reality. I'm sure I've seen some GT cars that have an opening in the mirror that feeds air into the cockpit.

It will be alright. I used my most scientific instrument! My 200w vaporiser hahahha.. and I am not blowing inside but same as the direction of air, across the window! [emoji16][emoji12][emoji316]

One of the last puzzle pieces was the bumper.
Needed a coat of paint and canards, what race car has no canards? Exactly! +10 to street cred.
First I modified the emblem. Cut away all unnecessary plastic to maximise airflow. Not sure how much it’s gonna help but small hole is better than no hole right?

Than spray the bumper in the +35 dry heat. Defo not ideal but I am running out of time and patience. This will do.

Hi mate, like many before me I've been completely absorbed and read your thread start to finish, beautiful and creative work! I'm sure you'll appreciate it in the years to come having documented it so thoroughly too.

I do have a question about the naca vents though. I'm not an engineer per se, but my understanding is that if you put a hole perpendicular to fast flowing air like the air flying past your car on the track, the air will actually get sucked out of the cabin (venturi effect). Maybe the particular shape of them does something that I'm not aware of or i'm misunderstanding some basic physics

Thank mate! That was the main reason to document it here so I can look back in few years and say damn I was crap at welding hahha.
Regarding Naca. It’s the design of it that makes it suck the air. It’s usually placed on the surface with positive pressure. The narrow opening at the front creates a pocket of negative pressure and that sucks the air inside the scoop. And because it’s widening towards the rear that air increases velocity and in turn sucks more air in. But also that pocket of air already inside prevents outside air from being turbulent hence creating almost no drag. Beautiful design. If I explained it correctly that is hahah

I think I'm somewhat on your wavelength, interested to see how you get on with it. I'll leave you to it, feel like I've binge watched a series and am now impatiently waiting on the next episode ?

What a day! Just got back from the trip up north! Firstly I want to thank Chris at EFi for his hard work, knowledge, experience and patience! We had a few snags mainly because my hands grow out of my ass apparently [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] and Carl @bloke for his help and knowledge and advice and for generally showing interested in my build. Couldn’t do it with out you mate! If I can ever return a favour, you know where to find me.
I am very happy with the results. Safely limit the power at 231bhp. It was doing more but in stock internal we decide this was optimal. Plenty of tourque low down 219 ft-lb. Idles well. Throttle response how it should. Happy lad I am!

Naturally I had to laminate that s**t ??? this is a base line. Since I never driven a stock car, for me this is a starting point.

Ps. I know 230ish is not a high figure and 350+ is easily achievable. High bhp wasn’t important (at this stage anyways) but reliability, handling, consistency, and most importantly fun factor.

August 2018.

Since my visit to EFI, I been itching to go drive it so decided to go do MOT on Monday. Failed miserably lol. Mostly in things like lights position, fog possition, indicator colour.. emissions and handbrake below 50%. I knew I rushed it for mot but it was good to know that everything else is solid! So this week fixed most issues and gonna try again on Monday.

While driving to MOT station, I realised I am a fat b*****d haha and corbeau revolution is too tight. So decided I need a trip to GSM to pick something else. Went with this OMP. Sooooo much better! Still a standard width but just big enough. Perfect! So my old one with total mileage on it of no more than 2miles is for sale!

Also though I need stronger return spring in my throttle body. Was sticking a little

Made some door check straps as well.
b2aab5710c180b2b963f2de9a7408730.jpg

And most importantly, had Anthony from ACS_Motorsport do a full set up on my car.

Running -3.5 at the front, -2.5 at the rear. With 50% gross weight distribution! Very happy. The car weighted at 927kg. With 25L of fuel. And a passenger seat. Not what I was hoping but still a fair result! Theoretically dry weight is around 885-890. So my bhp per ton is 249. I think this will be enough on the track [emoji51]
Just want to Thank Anthony for pulling all the stops getting my set up done! Worked right in the night! Thank you mate!

As it sits now. Waiting for mot on Monday, tax and insurance! And I can finally go drive this thing!!! Can not bloody wait!

That’s not a bad weight, mine was 897 with one seat and no turbo conversion so I reckon I’ll be around same weight as you now.
