how many cup fatalities this winter?

Re: how many cup fatalalies this winter?

Lots of people are crashing atm. Obviously it's not their fault.

The blame lies with tyres/wind/the road/God.

amazes me how much some people drive like arses in weather like this, seen some guy in a people carrier loose it earlier on going round junction striking two other cars, he was going to fast for conditions.

People just dont think at all. Earlier today there was an MG snaking on a hill not going up it at all, with a van stuck behind it they were both literally getting up there at about an inch per hour so I stopped at the bottom of the hill so I could just take a run up it no problems, the c*nts behind me decided to overtake me and then got themselves stuck on the hill ffs!

On most forums (mine included) all the accidents seem to be happening at just 5mph as well

Too many Colin McRae wannabee's

It was a blind hill so I couldn't just go round them, I had to go and park up behind them to stop more people from doing the same. It pissed me off no end, I sat there behind them with the engine off until they got the f*ck out of the way, then casually motor'd past.

Not their fault???? The car does not crash itself! The only person to blame is the driver, or the driver of the other car if they were at fault.

I have a cup 172 and it is a bit nerve wracking to drive in this weather but if you give it respect then it won't bite! Maybe it'll become rarer now as more and more get crashed each year....

Was thinking this the other day. Has seemed quite quiet on here recently. A good year for the cup then?

Well i didnt crash mine....more of a dink. That will teach me for doing the shopping in it! lol. I have noticed alot of crashes reading over the forum today though.

mines away all snug in the garage being worked on ready for summer :D

love having a banger for the winter no care about it in the world.

some people are planks when they get stuck in snow, they think revs the nuts off the engine will get them out

To be honest mine hasn't felt much different to any other car I've driven in the current conditions, other than maybe it's easier to spin the front wheels. Back end feels really nervous but like I say it was just the same in every other car.

Its so annoying driving in snow. You have to be feather light with all steering, accelerating, braking, changing gear etc.

Fronts spin up very easily if your a bit over eager with the clutch but i've generally been fine. If you drive carefully its not too bad.

when it's icy/snowing... cup owners are in the better car for the conditions.

ABS/ESP/TC does f**k all when there's sheet ice below the tyres.

the fronts spinning can be a lot of fun, and driving in this weather teaches a lot of car control, it also weeds out some of the drivers that shouldn't be on the road haha.

My 172 only has ABS, and its only really kicked in in the slush so I would agree, when I had the 197 the traction/ESP was the 1st thing to get switched off.

well i had the ''172 cup experience'' 2day in my 182, esp, abs lights came on simultaneously along with the serv light. That meant i didnt have any of those systems on, and to be honest with you, the abs i can live without, epecially in this weather. the esp/traction control helps alot if ur tryna put your foot down everywhere but if you drive like your supposed to i dont see y 'cups' should be any more dangerous than any other RS.

I remember when majority of cars didnt have ABS. Cars werent labelled as dangerous then.

Think what the problem is, under 25's can drive seriously high powered cars compared to 10 - 20 years ago and they just cant handle it and have no driving experience where as in 80's and 90's you used to have to work your way up to a faster car because they were so expensive to buy and insure

they will be fine this year, all cups have filtered down to drivers with the skillz!
Thats why i no longer have one.
Tbh they are fine in the winter. I did 5 winters with not a hint of grief.

  172 cup
It's all about winter driving skills. I've been driving for 12 years now, mostly in north east United States where the snow can get up to waist high, but most occassions knee high and have never managed to get into an accident.

Driving my cup really has not been much of a difference. I think the biggest thing to look out for (if you are a good winter driver) are other drivers!

Always remember the first time I drove a car with ABS - XR3i.

Standing on the brake when it was pissing down with rain and the car stopped like it was bone dry.

Most people seem to think that ABS is some sort of magic - all it does is stop the wheels from locking - if you are doing 30 on sheet ice and slam the anchors on - you aint stopping - with or without ABS.

ABS (and much of the other electronic aids) actually make you think that you're invincible in a car - which is where a lot of youngsters get caught out !

Lol at this thread. Ive had my dink last saturday....but to be honest ~ It was nothing to do with my car being a CUP.....it would have happened in any car I was in!? The space I tried to park in was pretty much ice...and I slid forwards at like 3mph....no acceleration..no sideways rally action... Its just a shame that the front of this car is made of cheese and bent in so much... If I were still in my Escort 1.4Gl Plus which didnt even have power steering ~ It would have STILL slid, but then smashed through that pole thing....then likely through the building...And I would have crumpled. I miss that car....

  Nothing at the mo :(
2 people in the same day went full on smack into the lamppost outside my house.. f**k knows how they do it.. both of um was shitty 1litres too.. only problem ive had this xmas in the ice is jus getting into my car as its sooo slippy outside my door.. my cars been fine :D

  172 cup
I drive a Cup and i've survived two winters in it, so hopefully she'll survive a third!! :)

Although i did have a little prang the other day, although it wasn't ice related, more animal related, am now missing part my front bumper :(

  172 cup
:( What you hit ? You ok etc ?

:( indeed!

Yeah i am fine thanks, hit a cat, although from the damage you'd never believe it was a cat!!

I apologise to any animal lovers, but it was either me swearving/foot on brake and the result being me, bump and cup in ditch because of the poor road conditions... or control car and hit the poor creature!
