Hi Guys
I know I can rely on you to give me some unbiased answers lol !

Anyway dont tend to post that often on here but I do need all your advise. I currently own a NON-cupped 182 which is now 18 months old. It is lowered slightly and has an aftermarket exhaust BUT with the new 197 due anytime soon I want to chop it in for a SUBARU WRX on a 52 plate. Sooo many people are telling me do it or dont do it due to running cost blah blah I dont know what to do

Is there anyone here thats made the change and not looked back or REGRETTED it totally???? (Turbo kick was nice tho)

Thanks guys

Tom

If you can afford the extra running costs and you're not bothered about the lack of warranty then go for it.

do it................... i was considering 1 b4 i bought the cup , 15k was out of price range at the time. was so tempting , buy it and worry later my motto ..........................lol:star:

You might be right mate... just gotta try sell the clio first before the depreciation kicks in for the new RS

I don't think the value of 182 will suffer that much with the new arrival of the 197.

I've just sold an RB5 99 scoob and bought a modded 172cup. The scoob was ace but cost me £4000 over 40months. This did have 6mnth service intervals though. My new clio as quick upto 85-90 and does almost twice as much on petrol. Paid 13650 for scoob and sold it for 7k so it did depreciate even though was special edition. Scoobs are better put together, but it will cost you.You can now pay monthly for servicing at Subaru but I would choose a specialist instead.

Yeah thanks jbaddeley thats the other flip of the coin lol. The part of my head that says do you want to run something that costs that much? To be honest the scoob I looked at had already lost most of its value compared to what the guy had paid originally.

You had the RB5 so that would be worse on fuel than a WRX wouldnt it???

Its not a scooby I know, but I have never regretted getting the Civic Type R after my Clio Cup. The Clio was and still is a fantastic car but I'm not disappointed to have changed to the darkside.

The WRX could be worse on petrol. They weighh about 200kg more than an RB5 or classic and the engine is essentially the same. Why don't you buy a late classic on a Y. Pay between 6 and 7. Make sure cambelt service is done, suspension bushes ar sound, check rear diffs. If it proves too costly too run you won't lose much. These are easier to sell than bugeyes and more focused to drive.

if u want an impreza get an sti ! wrx are slow and the sti should have forged pistones go 4 a v5 onwards that way you can have it re-maped look out 4 noisey bottom ends, bearings spin on no4 big end and then they will cost u big time

I wouldnt make that swap myself as Im not a big fan of the Impreza range, I respect that they are good cars but I dont like the looks or the image.

I dont think it would be worthwhile swapping for a WRX, they are no quicker than the 182 (or not the one I had a play with)

See LOTS of different views. The problem with the classic scoob is trying to find a low miler. Obviously going from the 182 which I brought new to something older is not something i really wanna do.

The insurance company wont touch me on an STI so WRX it is. Like I say the one I drove on Sun certainly was quicker than my RS. 5.8 to 60 is it not??

I guess it will be a suck it and see. If it does cost too much there are plenty of 182s about that I could buy back without losing too much on the Subaru lol!!
