Fiesta ST500 Light Correction

Thought i would stick this up on here, Seems to be quite a few that are into proper detailing :)

This was done last year not long after my mate had picked it up for a steal, 6k IIRC from the Auctions and had only done 13k miles with less than 1k between its last yearly service so a very low miler.

Paint work was shocking though, Looked grey and felt like sandpaper.

This was my first proper correction detail and the main focus was to bring some life back to the Panther black paint so a few things were skipped this day, IE wheels and arches being done properly.

So, Car arrived at 9am this morning looking sorry for its self:

Used various Mezerna pads and polishes and was sealed up with FK#2180

Good God man, please don't tell me you're offering friends and family detailing services, let alone anyone further removed?! I got about half way through...

Snow foaming does not equal washing. Especially with the car in that state. You needed a two bucket method wash, probably changing the buckets half way through to get it anywhere near clean enough to de-tar and touch with a clay bar. Did you not think it was strange that your clay looks like a piece of coal after a few passes on a panel?!? And those small dull patches of grey as you've mentioned, clearly apparent in your "swirls and RDS" photo - these are the result of a piece of clay either being to coarse for the application or resulting marks from too much pressure. So you've effectively trippled your polishing work to remove these.
Finally, reflection does not equal correction. Every "after" shot does not show that you've corrected the paint properly. The only one with a marked difference shows after marks from dried claying lube/water spotting no longer present on the side of the bonnet you've polished. I could wipe with some quick detailer one side of a similar bonnet and achieve the same "corrected" shot.
All in all mate, and sorry to be coarse, pretty piss poor.

Steady on JD! You grumpy this morning? Someone piss in your Churchill Pol last night?

Good job Jamie. The claying is a pretty big issue though as per JD's comments. It's one of the worst things for inflicting damage.

Short of what has already been said, I would really suggest having a read of the guides available in this section.

Detailing is obviously a learning curve but working on somebody else's car when you appear to have limited knowledge is plain crazy, especially when it involves correction.

Lacks 40+ pictures of beading.

Additionally, I have equal results with Demon Foam, quick-wax and some RDS. And that's not detailing, it's washing.

@-Jamie- apologies. Re-read that and as Kev has said, I'm not in the best of moods. You've quite clearly borne the brunt of it. Not particularly clever or helpful of me.
There are a few points that need addressing in your routine, which (if you're still happy to read my posts!!) we can go through.

When i opened this thread up it wasn't quite what i was expecting.

May as well stick a few replys to your original post though, I did miss out a few photos as i had limited time to do it, 2BM was used as it always is before any decon chemicals where used. If i was not going to be touching the paint other than washing and protecting it i am generally a lot more careful with the clay bar but thanks for the advice on it anyway I have now got a clay cloth that i am yet to use as claying is one of my hated things so anything that can speed that up is a bonus.

Again due to time constraints and needing to get the car back to the owner i did miss out a lot of before and after photos, As for the bonnet water spots, The car had obviously never been washed properly and was covered in them, I noticed this before he even took ownership of it hence my offer to tidy the paint up again.

I know i still have lots to learn about detailing, as does everyone even those pro's imo but isn't that one reason we post in forums like these?

Sometimes you're better studying old detailing studio posts by proper detailers. PB, SLR Nick etc, watch what they do and read read read and research every product. I understood what the idea was before I bought my first pot of 476s! Research is my best advice for any one looking to take up "detailing" as a hobby. Especially these days in a massively over-saturated market!
