Dephaser & water pump

Are there set intervals (mileage/years) at which these two should be changed?

Would you only do these at the same time as doing the belts or do people ever do them in isolation?

Car is on 49k, cam & aux belts were done in May 2011. Should I be concerned that the dephaser & water pump haven't been done?

Car has regular & frequent oil changes but is there anything else engine-wise I should be wary of? Just want to make sure everything is in the best of order.

No I have not changed mine when both belts were done, water pump not making any noise or dephaser not rattling .

No fixed intervals iirc. its just recommended that the dephaser is changed, Water pumps rarely go either (although mine did).

If the water pump was to fail it's run off the aux belt so not a timing belt off job...

personally if they haven't been changed before then get them done when you have the belts done nextime.

Dephasor will make noise for ages before it fails. Water pumps are generally reliable but normally give the game away by leaking before they fail totally.

Ie neither of then are likely to suddenly right your engine off like a belt going. So don't panic.

SWR in stirling are very familiar with the belts and stuff on the f4r's i'd take it to them!

If I end up getting all belts, water pump, dephaser, service etc is that something that could be done in a day? Drop of morning and pick up later? (I'm sure falkland had the car for a couple of days just for belts and service)

As said the aux belt runs the water pump, but it all depends on how bad the pump is leaking as coolant can contaminate rubber - IMO i'd get it checked but do the aux belt and water pump now, and budget the belts and dephaser at a later date
 
Thanks. I think with the risk of the belt getting contaminated and being due again next year anyway, I'll just go ahead and get all belt kits, water pump, dephaser and service done at the same time.

£770 all in reasonable/average?

Better still, Kenny Brown Motorsport in Hillington Estate? He's done loads of F4R's. Great reputation aswell!

It should only be a day for the wory mate yes, unless there are any unforseen problems which with cars as you know you need to allow for!

I'd try to get it s little cheaper mate, full belt kits plus dephaser are circa £550-£600 at the specialists on here, can't see the water pump costing that much extra?

Unfortunately not as great a selection of specialists in Scotland!

Had a quick look at the cost of the parts online, £500ish:

Cambelt kit £142
Aux belt kit £72
Water pump £67
Dephaser pulley £153
Service kit £30
Oil £30-50

Charging about £270ish labour then. Suppose not too bad depending on how many hours it will take them. People saying about half a days work, 5 hours?

5.7 hours for a belt i would add 1.0 on that for coolant and water pump then the service example 90-100 for a service

Even £770 seems a little on the expensive side doesn't it?

Have you been on swr's website to see their prices??

Yeah mate, had a look after I called them.

​£380 for the timing belt and £220 for 36k service. So I suppose an extra £170 for the dephaser and water pump (150+70) isn't bad, but not exactly a bargain!

Don't think anybody knows as they get changed before anything happens. Mine was noisy for nearly a year.

It would have to be left for a long time with a monstrous amount of noise before it got as far as actually failing. I dont personally know of one where someone has done so.

Think mine is close to failing its been bad for a bit.Sounds awful just like a diesel if i honest. Its taken me ages find out actually what was wrong with the thing.

I'm not that far from you, and currently have an offer on cambelts and dephasers. If yours is a NON AC variant, your looking at £430.
